There is recent ones, so you don't have to play an older one. 3U is good and 4U is good as well, but it has bad locations.

I don't go to Monster Hunter for turn-based RPGs. I have SMT, SRT, Stella Glow, FE, FF, DQ, Persona, The Last Remnant, Neptunia, etc.
The trailer looked like it was a spin-off with a unique gimmick but instead of being a unique spin on MH's formula but it's just a turn-based RPG which wouldn't nearly be as interesting.

Frontier grind is weird.

On a completely standard level (using no in-game items or the events that swing by here and there), the slowest thing you gain is your HR.
The actual item grind to craft or upgrade each single level of weapons or armor is surprisingly light.
However, especially with the armor, there are a lot of levels.

On the other hand, if you take advantage of the free events and bonuses that you can get without paying a cent, you can skyrocket up the ranks like no one's business.
Like hell, in that case I'd say mainline has more grind.

There's a couple of guides on /vg/ I believe on how to set everything up properly. You need a weapon that favors boomerang over melee, has cutting as its damage type, and certain abilities.

In MHX you can play as the cat. You get a completely new moveset depending on what skills you equip. You can also actually heal your teammates like the NPC cats do, except you can do it on command (same goes for buffs, bombs, and so on).

I also wish they would stop tying so much progression to single player shit. I wanna hunt apex monsters, but one of my friends hates doing single player stuff and although we are at endgame G rank, he still hasn't unlocked his first wystone.

That's exactly how it works. There's maybe a mission or two per rank that requires playing as the cat, but otherwise it's entirely optional. You can play through the entire game as a cat if you want, or you can ignore them entirely except for a mission or two.

That's still around in X, but the village only goes to 5 stars. It's rather quick to rush through, and then you can go do your standard guild hunting.

Is there still a Korean F2P MMO-tier grind in MHX or have they finally mitigated it for people who don't like doing the same thing for 3 hours every time they need new equipment or, god forbid, skill gems?

Well whenever MHXG inevitably comes out, presumably also the version we will get in the west, Im sure village quests will go up to high rank again.

Once again, I just hope they stop tying so much to single player in what is supposed to be primarily a multiplayer game.

Or at least have the ability to unlock everything in multiplayer thats unlockable in single player. Veteran players don't need to go through all the basic quests that teach you everything but also take like an hour or 2 to finish.

It looks pretty cute, I'd buy it if Capcom ever brought it over.
