>>323782804 >>323782925 >>323782930 It's going to be released sometime in March or late june. The artstyle is amazing, what I'd like to know is how are they going to top off the bosses? Lunatic and Moonlord will always be my favorites. Bur what can they do now?
>>323783439 Ok, I think I expressed myself bad. The artstyle itself is OK, what I don't like are the animations. Those puppet-like animations always put me down. I think it's because they create a big disconection between the art and how you expect them to move and feels weird.
Still, I'm gonna give it a try.
As for bosses and shit, Moonlord will have some kind of relevancy, since zombies look like this.
>Terraria crew updated their main game with more content and will release a sequel that does Starbound better than what Starbound wanted to be >tfw Chucklefucks will probly still be on their sixth combat rework by then
>Terraria 1 with tons of huge updates completed >Terraria spin off coming out soon >Terraria 2 already in development >Starbound still in early access >There are people on /v/ who spent money on Starbound
>>323784683 >>323784480 OP here, unfortunately I was one of many who bought this bullshit...not realizing only ONE guy Tiy was a severe from Terraria...and he only worked on the pixle artwork. The entire game is a fucking joke, why craft your own ammunition when you can wait for this retarded stamina recharge. They should have just ripped assets out of Terraria to make it somewhat kinda like a fucking good game. Real shame, the lore is pretty interesting.
>>323784683 >it'll be out in 2013 no matter what! >it's 2016 and the game still feels like an early alpha >they just went "fuck it" and un-overhauled combat, mobs are back to dealing contact damage >development consists of occasionally taking one step forward but at least five steps back every 6 months >their forum gets hacked, lose an entire year's worth of posts, information leaked >there are still regulars in the communities who regularly and adamantly defend the game and how much fun their grandchildren will have playing it when it's finished Fuck this piece of shit and Cube World. At least I learned my lesson about Early Access games.
>>323784683 >pirated it because I looked at reviews first >I tried it for around an hour and a half and thought it was garbage >deleted it Feels great to not have gotten it. Terraria was fun as fuck though. Sadly though, after we beat the Moon Lord,me and my friends stopped playing until the new game comes out.
Just a reminder that this game is going to be more focused on Tower Defense mechanics, like a bad flash game, than exploration and crafting, like Terraria was. Also Redigit didn't work on it at all, it was outsourced entirely to a shovelware company that handled the mobile port of Terraria (which was a trainwreck)
>>323787138 >an actual secured IP by competent developers Are you genuinely calling Engine Software "competent developers" or did you just not pay attention to the part where Redigit is not making this game
>>323784480 >chucklefuck finally gets on their feet after the devestation that TOW unleashes >become more competent at actually making games instead of just ideas >release updates almost every other month, building up Starbound to be an actual game >as the game nears completion, chucklefish and its fans look towards a bright future for Starbound >Terraria 2 is released
It seems like minecraft I know, but this game is more focused on combat. There are guns, lasers, swords, grappling hooks, ect. You can summon bosses and kill them to make better armor. It can be fun but it isnt for every one.
>>323787329 Despite what that guy is going to tell you, this is more or less what it is.
Terraria did do some things right for the 2D aspects but unfortunately some of their choices have been extremely poor. The original game was released obfuscated, had absolutely shit netcode and was garbage, it's basically more or less MC moved to 2D but they gave it a bit more of a story, and set the pace for 2D games like it.
Starbound is good but too many furries in the community to not just play only with friends.
>>323787319 Seriously, that and castle story. I bought both, and my tears are never ending.
>>323787329 >Its straight up Minecraft on a 2D plane. Can you explain the difference? Or what's the appeal? Mostly in the sense of combat focus and progression. You fight your way through biomes with specific enemy sets, move to new resource and crafting trees, defeat bosses, progress to higher tier areas and higher tier weapons/armor. As you go, additional equipment and accessories can unlock new abilities for ease of movement and increased power.
The freebuilding portion and maybe the first hour or so are pretty minecraftlike, but the ultimate goal of the game is to grow in power and defeat stronger and stronger enemies to get better accessories/equipment and so on. Minecraft doesn't really have much in the way of power growth (once you hit diamond, that's pretty much it, and you can do that within the first five minutes) and there's no real purpose to fight either of the bosses. Terraria is about progress while Minecraft's more "do whatever"
I'm not trying to tell you Terraria is good or that you have to like it, just, as you asked, the main difference between it and MC
personally I always preferred building in Terraria because there's a lot more block types and some actual decorative options (somehow MC still doesn't even have furniture) and it's easier for me to make something look cool in 2D than in 3D
>>323788641 >>323788648 >is that a terraria expansion/update or another almost scam like starbound? Neither. It's a Terraria spinoff made by not-Redigit that takes out the fun exploration and replaces it with Tower Defense. He contracted it out entirely to a third party. Don't expect quality.
>>323789004 Summoner is still shit in 1.3 though, at least on expert summons simply do not do enough damage at all, and it's ridiculous that you have to specifically equip trinkets to even come close to the damage of a range weapon while losing a lot of armor and mobility as a trade-off.
Basically, don't do summons, they fucking suck for anything but farming afk.
>>323789549 Tremor Remastered for new content, imkSushi's crafting recipe mod to avoid relying on rng drops, quality of life/ tree of life for more accesory combinations, max stack + so you aren't restricted by 99 item stack limits and summoner's association makes playing a summoner worth doing,
>>323790037 thanks for the recommendations I know what I'm doing tomorrow
>>323790061 I thought the Pumpkin Moon was the shittiest and least fun thing in Terraria until the Frost Moon that reigned until the Moonlord, which remains the worst fucking thing in the game The Towers are kind of cool and the alien invasion is at least an invasion and not a moon event moon events were a mistake
This is the terraria thread right? How do I deal with the underworld in Expert? I have some good shit to deal with it and 400 hp but Demons keep fucking me up while I try to get hellstone and a WoF bridge going
>>323791162 That was reds final update, meaning they'll still work on the game, maybe add new events or quests nut yes Moonlord is the final boss, and he's a damn good one. Wonder what they can do to top it off.
>>323784683 I'm really not sure why you guys have the need to choose a side.
Terraria had a fucking terrible start and has been up and down for years, the shit with Blue, the original release was a fucking mess.
Terraria also had several year long drops, many times it had large issues.
That said, yes Starbound is definitely not at an amazing place, the changes have meant that people that spent time on really great mods early aren't properly supported anymore and people don't care to make any because more changes will come to kill them until it's out of EA and stable. Since the game relies on mods this is a problem, but the mods also give it many more hours of fun.
>>323791131 Yes, yes and so does the Topia Online game designer. Also keep in mind he did this same shit a year/year in a half ago and said we'd get an update, still waiting. He never got around the nVidia error and is still sitting in.
>>323784683 Starbound is making a lot of improvements lately though, and is expected to release in a few months ;). Even though Terraria is far superior, I've easily gotten my money's worth out of Starbound. No regrets here
>>323791131 >That autist has been working on the game for TWO YEARS without applying a single update
Jesus christ, why would he do this? No one is expecting a finished game right off the bat, so why doesn't he just trickle in content as it is ready instead of, evidently, trying to push out the whole game in one go?
>>323791363 >improvements >undoing the actual improvements is improvement >changing the sticky-note that says "beta" to "release" even though the product is clearly still an alpha Get some standards, anon.
>>323791345 Are you genuinely retarded? Moonlord is suppose to be the fucking endgame eldritch god. "Impending doom approaches" he's massive, hits like a fucking truck and is menacing enough he sucks the backround and leaves it into darkness. It's the final fight, you and a god, everything you achive and worked on could be incinerated if you don't win. It's you or him, thank god I fought him with my caster.
>>323791784 Shitty how? You need to focus on popping the eyes? Dodge his laser attack and eye missIles? The fight was pretty great. You probably play as a shit eating fighter and you suck at it. Git gud.
>>323791738 How about getting rid of those AFK farms? I think the devs felt a bit cheated that Moonlord has an AFK farm. They should make a rage mode for him if you stand still for too long and he hits a dungeon guardian style kill shot.
>>323792253 Still technically 'cheesing' a boss, I hate that. Make strategies and fight like a man instead of this farming bullshit. The only time I'd see this as a good thing is during events to get more pumpkings or frost queens.
>>323792625 Like other anon said, play ranger or or fuck off you Melee bitch. >>323792706 They did but assholes STILL find methods to AFK farm them, and for moonlord they obviously had way too much time on their hands to pull that off, really wish they made that berserk rage mode if you stand still for too long.
>>323792854 >Like other anon said, play ranger or or fuck off you Melee bitch. Are you illiterate?
>The best thing about that statement is that Yo-Yo is melee because they never bothered fixing melee and just made it ranged with melee damage.
Melee was literally just ranged with melee damage because they never bothered actually fixing melee. I played with yo-yos a lot.
I doubt you played on hard mode because that was just fucking shit when you'd die in 2-3 hits and then you'd have to go through the whole fucking summoning process AGAIN.
It's not good design in any fucking way.
>They did but assholes STILL find methods to AFK farm them Moon lord was not good design, and really calling people "assholes" for finding ways to afk farm bosses when it doesn't affect you? How anally devastated are you exactly?
No, you fucking idiot when I say bad gameplay I don't mean "It's too hard" I mean it's so fucking simple anyone could do it therefore it's not fun at all, it didn't focus on any divergent gameplay, it didn't bring anything special or new to the table, it was generic 2D floating big boss idea with no neato mechanics.
>>323794518 personally that's why I like it, Underground Jungle always kicked my shit in more than the Underworld at times when I first started playing, and still continued this tradition into Expert mode.
Before the latter updates a buddy I had wanted to mod terraria. To that end, he decompiled it.
The code he found was fucking awful.
Redigit didn't bother to reference same entities multiple times and instead just made new ones over and over, netcode was fucked, PvP damage calculation literally broken (something terraria players sould be very familiar with), block code was messy and horribly unoptimized.
All of it was super easy to fix if you're even slightly competent.
>>323795416 You can find the original code unobfscated because he released it that way.
Redigit and Blue were fucking idiots, but they got it done good enough I suppose.
The original code used the inferior net library and people literally told them "you're doing it wrong use X" so they did, took them a week. Before that my friend just actually changed it himself and we played with the better netcode because it was that simple.
Also he had tons of unoptimized shit, and I wouldn't be surprised if that's still the case.
Honestly one of the funniest things about indie games is when they do this and people eat it up "It runs so good on my machine" because it's simple shit you fucking goober, the actual code itself is terrible.
