What's /v/ opinion on first person dungeon crawlers?
>restarting CoH 1 because I'm too lazy to dig up my save from before
>level 1 sucks shit, as expected, but I knew that coming in
>spell charges instead of MP, okay, I'm fine with that, and it does have some perks
>every drop needs to be identified
>every single one
>if your ally can't identify it , they enter fear
>it costs a shitload of money to do it at the shop
Fuck this shit, I'm getting my old save back. I still want to beat it, but fuck level 1.
I would just play CoH2, but I went full retard and bought it on PS3.
>digitized sound, no add-ons required!
>this is a good thing
>if your ally can't identify it , they enter fear
That's not really a problem, they go back to normal after a few steps.
>I would just play CoH2, but I went full retard and bought it on PS3.
Elaborate, I didn't play 2 yet.
I like them a lot
But I'm not particularly good at them.
I can't play it without a tv.
It also kinda sucks that the Vita bonus screen is just the PSP version bonus emulated, instead of its own thing, preferably utilizing touch and the second stick.
Most these days other that Etrian Odyssey are complete shit. Team Danganronpa should make one, it's the natural next step in genre blending after Another Episode.
I just hate when dungeon crawlers look like this garbage >>323752963
They're basically a gathering place for hack artists for the most part. Visual novels are the same way, you get gems like Hotel Dusk and then suddenly the next 100 VNs you see have art that looks like a 13-year-old with a dA account drew it.
I think its more of a ''chibi'' art style. Either way hes entitled to his opinion.
You mean games like Legend of Grimlock? Never played them personally. They seem kind of pointless now with full 3D motion available in open-world crawlers such as Skyrim.
I have nothing against all the people around here who like games like that but the "low-budget anime" look completely ruins the experience for me. And the way they're slapped together always makes me feel like I'm playing a kind of mediocre RPG Maker game.
>We don't want to offend the longtime fans of the series, but we honestly can't understand why anybody would want to play an archaic RPG like Wizardry when there are fantastic games like Skyrim around. Being nostalgic is one thing, being ignorant another.
I wish they still made FP SMT games
>RPG Maker game.
I don't think its as bad as all that. Not going to lie though, I do with more of the random mobs in DT2 had more detail like the Gods in the post game. Most of them look rad as fuck by comparison.
Anon, this game is the shit. It even uses the EO engine.
Kinda looking forward to Stranger of Sword City, looks cool.
I feel this game had a lot of potential squandered by a retarded battle system and repetitive dungeons
Does Grimrock count?
I also loved Etrian Odyssey and the first half of The Dark Spire.
I really like the Etrian Odyssey series because EO1 was my first dungeon crawler and I got hooked. I started Dungeon Travelers 2 and I have some complaints, but I'm still going to play it. I have Wizardry 6, 7, and 8. I guess I like dungeon crawlers.
>First time encountering a Mimic in Grimrock 2
A video game hasn't freaked me out that badly in a long time.
One of my favorite genres. Enjoy EO and glad it's continuing to exist. Played Demon Gaze on the Vita and now playing Moe Chronicle (and waiting for the English sub for Moe Crystal), looking at getting DT2 in the future as well as Stranger of Sword City and Rey Gigant (that someone in a handheld thread recommended).
The battle system is divisive and the final boss is bullshit but it's one of the best games in the franchise. They should have gone full EO and include map drawing, when you reach a certain infamous sector you really miss it.
if it's saying what I think it is, programs can actually coerce the PC-Speaker to play actual sampled audio instead of just beeps, I remember a lot of old games and shit advertising "digitized sound" meaning voice samples and shit
it's somewhat CPU intensive though (for the time, and the CPU spent most of its time fiddling with the speaker registers constantly) and a bit tricky to implement, since it's not entirely straightforward
one DOS program I can think of off the top of my head that supports that is Fast Tracker II (it has a somewhat quiet high quality mode and a 1-bit loud as fuck PWM mode)
it is a good thing if done properly, if not ideal
Well it wouldn't be the first time I played a jap RPG as an EOP
Once I get around to hacking my 3DS, gonna play this.
Possibility of bricking my system, still have retail games to play, I generally wait until the end of a platforms lifespan before pirating anyway..
I can afford to buy games also, like to keep supporting series/developers I like.
I don't get what >>323754420 is talking about because >>323752963 looks like fap game and those don't matter one bit to the genre or videogames in general. At least talk about something and compare where I don't get my dick out and wipe all across the keyboard for a quick fap while beating the dungeon boss at the same time.
DT2 is a pretty solid dungeon crawler, behind the obvious pandering.
If you want to discuss something that is basically just for the sake of fapping, then Moe Chronicle is the game you're looking for. You strip down 'monster girls' (who look like nothing more than your typical anime girls in bad cosplay) by attacking articles of clothing, then use the touch pad (sometimes both) to rub various weak points on their body to get them to join your party. It's got some nice mechanics, but the story is bland and the locations are pretty generic.
I enjoy it, but I'm obviously weeaboo enough to play it.
Have you checked out the artbooks?
