Name a first-person shooter that is better than Doom.
There isn't one.
>>doesnt feel as good as doom
>i can sit and play doom for hours, i get bored of quakes engine after a while
I find the running in doom to be very annoying, you constantly bob up and down like youre on some kind of ship and the 2d really fucks up my spatial awereness, I can memorise a quake map in few playthroughs but with doom its just horrible
My biggest complaint about Doom is the worst songs in the soundtrack are the ones that play the most.
I'm disappointed nobody has said Deus Ex.
>doom 1 fucking sucks and is boring as fuck in comparison. only ultimate doom e4 is good,
Wrack has no hitscan enemies, and is made by the former Skulltag dev Carnevil. Has some scoring system too, though while obviously not as good it's as close as a modern release can get to Doom from what I've seen.
Bobby Prince did the soundtrack for it as well.
Doom 2's music is much more ambient-style and I think it's overall weaker
D E S C E N T
>Doom 1 sucks
But it was way better than Doom 2, especially its level design.
Why aren't games made with practical effects anymore?
You can't judge a game by its mods. It's like saying that Harry Potter is better than the Quixote because it has a lot of varied fanfiction you like. It's fine you like it, but when judging the 2 works (Quixote and Harry Potter), you should be evaluating the works themselves, not what other people have made with them.
Same for video games. It's like saying Warcraft 3 was a good RTS because they had a blast playing custom maps.
there are cutscenes but you're never taken out of first person view, and the non action sequences are basically just "Gordon you gotta go do a thing but there's probably going to be aliens/marines/maphazards, goodluck."
It had virtually the same graphical detail as DooM, but the enemies were actually polygonal instead of sprites.
Not that that mattered - Descent was fucking awesome because you had full 6DoF movement.
>all these plebs
People just can't seem to make good enemy design. Out of all shooters, Doom still comes on top in that regard by a considerable margin. It's weighty but fast movement hasn't really been topped by other games for single player, the only thing that might be an improvement would be to add a weighty jump with little air strafe, but only maybe. The type of level design, abstract visual design, and satisfying music to kill to, and how it plays out when there's tons of enemies to fight isn't really capture in any other shooter.
That being said, Quake 1 is still the best multiplayer shooter, all Quakes after 1 were a mistake, it's all garbage. Only Quake 2 single player was okay. Railgun was a mistake, no air strafe was a mistake, Q3A Shotgun was a mistake. Quake Lives netcode is garbage.
Brutal Doom. It is the same as the original in spirit but imroved with
> aiming on all axis
> NPC companions
> minor stealth mechanics
> all weapons redesigned
> rethought weapon system, no progression instead actual balance
> more sprites in everything
> rebalanced enemies, all of them buffed
> every single original level remade into a brutal doom level to suit its mechanics plus secret duke nukem level and more
> and a cruelty mechanic is added too
>aiming on all axis
>minor stealth mechanics
you BD fags are embarrassing.
Maybe 3 but not 1
FPS games don't work on a console fagboy, especially not with one that has a controller like the N64
Wolfenstein is bland as fuck
Not even close nigga
You fucking wish
No, CoD2 is better anyways
>clear one room at a time: the level
Not even level design at that point.
If only you had said TNT I could have agreed with you, but Plutonia is the epitome of bullshit that you either HAVE to know its coming or savescum like hell to avoid it if you don't want to die to cheap shit over and over again.
>thinks Quake 3 is better than one
Shit taste confirmed, rest of your list guaranteed void. Do you actually enjoy constant peak railing, made even worse by the limited maneuverability compared to Quake 1? Nades and shotgun are also poorly executed compared to their Quake 2 counterparts. Watch high level TDM and Duel gameplay of 1, and compare it to 3 to see what I mean.
I seriously don't understand positive opinions of Painkiller. Honestly. I played it through one time, with no knowledge of it or its reception, and it was gruelling. Generic worlds and enemies, bosses revolving around stupid puzzle gimmicks, (especially the last boss, holy shit) and gameplay that just felt like off-brand Quake. And the beauty of the series is that every game after the first manages to be worse. I doubt even the fans could think the sequels were good. Not even shotposting, I genuinely can't comprehend why I only see praise for those games whenever they're brought up.
>no strafe running
>no wall running
>need i go on
theres no hope, dont buy on release, wait until fans inevitably have to make yet another bethesda published game good
you can only have two weapons in multiplayer, and these weapons are determined by the loadout you choose before you spawn
wouldn't want controllerbros to have to sift through a list of weapons now would we
Not him, but yeah there's something inherently wrong with that, especially in the context of the original levels. Aiming on a vertical axis makes some map designs redundant, like the icon of sin.
>executions, melee is now annoying to use
>health ammo and armor exploding from all enemies
>enemies pop in a-la call of duty/painkiller and aren't wandering the map
>still no straferunning so no circle strafing
>need i go on
if you played a doom game before doom 4 is not catering to you.
also doom multiplayer is fantastic
I like to imagine this guy probably makes this face like 90% of the time, even when he's sleeping.
like, he made another, slightly less angry face when her daughter got married but that's it.
the whole reason people circlestrafed was because straferunning made your character faster.
and i mean they are actually visible on the map, as if they reside there. they might not wander around, that isn't what i meant. but in doom 4 from what ive seen they just teleport in
>>Super Shotgun breaks the weapon balance
They added a ton of enemies that have around cacodemon health to compensate for that.
granted, that basically lead to them just making everything spawn in hordes.
Doom 2 really shouldn't have giving you the SSG so early.
>compensate by giving you more enemies that are literally made to be killed by your new weapon.
None of the new enemies but the chaingunner can be one-shot by it, I mean.
SSG turned everything lesser than Arch-viles into cannon fodder, but you're still gonna be firing slowly into enemies that'll take multiple shots from the super shotgun.
I don't mean to defend the super shotgun, but that's what their idea was (probably).
>no skill based movement
I didn't imply that.
Before playing a video game with those two movement patterns you didn't know you wanted them. Now you want every game of the same style to have exactly the same movement pattern, instead of wanting every game of the same style to have skill based movement, which might be expressed in new and better forms.
I love Doom, but man, Doom 2 has the worst double barrelled shotgun in all of videogames, with the possible exception of the original Serious Sam games. Thankfully Doom 64 and Quake both drastically improved upon it.
This is a meme, right? Wolfenstein is just objectively worse than DOOM in every regard. The only thing that has any subjectivity to it is the Nazi theme vs the demons and hell theme.
lot's of games have in-fight, but almost none of them have the frequency of doom's
You can run around a level and just trigger fights between monsters, you can't do that with any other game I've played
How is TNT?
Especially comparing it to Doom 2 and Plutonia?
Brutal Doom's reloading mechanic fights the flow of the game. Doesn't fit, is shit, major black mark against the mod.
The Doom 3 BFG (fukkin lame) version has another Doom 2 episode, "NERVE.WAD", shit is good. You'll have to try and pick it up illegally, though.
The BFG edition of Doom 3 made a kinda shit game shittier. Doom 3 is pretty, but the gameplay is unresponsive retarded slow hitscan crap.
At least Doom 4 is going to be gory Halo. For fucks sake.
>Retards unironically believe BD invetend any of that shit
Congrats on your first 4chan post, kiddo. Unfortunately, though, this place is like bars, dangerous theme park rides and the saloon doors at the video store. You'll find out when you're older, but for now it's best if you buck up and head home, little fella.
