>Killer Instinct Season 3
>Guilty Gear Xrd Revelator
Is 2016 the year when fighting games finally regain dominance among the competitive video game and e-sports scene and dethrones mobatrash for good?
>With the exception of BB
BlazBlue is designed to cater to Japanese casuals. Sure, the games don't have much appeal with Western casuals, but the franchise is no less casual because of it.
FGs will never dominate in popularity. Also all these games have like a couple months life spans apart from SF5. If it ends up being boring FGs are dead in the public eye and it will be back to before 2009 levels of obscurity.
Not simple enough for retards to play competitively, and no depth beyond how fast you can hit buttons in certain orders. The top esports games are all simple shit with just enough depth for casuals to sink their toes in.
>Also all these games have like a couple months life spans apart from SF5
KI is still mildly active in Xbone, and was before they gave season 1 away for free, too.
I mean, it doesn't have a huge community, but it's still alive. Same for Xrd.
I mean strictly in the public's eye - which is what OP is talking about with dethroning mobas and whatever. These games may still have a decent amount of players but are quick to lose viewers, especially for smaller tournaments( all that are not EVO ).
Most obvious example would be MKX this year with the amount of hype and viewership it had in the beginning and then it just went poof
>no depth beyond how fast you can hit buttons in certain orders.
>will be stationed in socal soon
>20 years old and single
watch out fgc
ASW has a pretty tight lock on casual arcade players with BlazBlue. They did try to expand the Guilty Gear audience with Xrd, but BB remains more popular with Japanese casuals.
>wanting fighting games to go eSports
Fighting games are the ultimate casual filter. It requres research, dedication, practice, many things casual audiences can do without. Even with "combo buttons" allowing you to mash and get combos, you still need to learn proper spacing and blocking to hold your own in any match.
Casuals just don't have the time or patience to learn fighting games.
The Tutorials are genuinely good and comprehensive
The Training mode that has every option under the sun
It has non shitty single-player modes (something unique for each character)
All players use wired connections

Are you kidding? The best fighting game coming out in 2016 is the re-release of Last Blade 2, not any of those trash games.
Like holy fuck what is wrong with you when you list fucking BlazBlue when that stopped being a joke and is now just plain fucking sad? That series stopped being decent at around CS2.
>>Killer Instinct Season 3
Yeah, a W10/Xbone exclusive.
Lowering the execution barrier extends the time casuals play such games to two weeks instead of one I guess, but in the end they will still quit after being beaten up hard by people who are playing the game instead of just pressing buttons.
This will never change, fighting games will never be appealing to casuals, those will always prefer party games like Smash.
>SFV being Steam/PS4 is better?
Steam is better than W10 yes since it isn't locked behind a shit OS.
Also the PS4 is the currently best system out of the MS and Sony shit flinging contest.
MS are even screwing up their own flagship series like Halo.
Xrd has a godlike tutorial that explains the game flow very well even if you never had any contact with fighting games before, and its mission and challenge mode are enough for the player to be ready to play against someone without looking too bad.
Of course people need to actually do the large amount of tutorials and missions, and judging from what I keep encountering online on player matches it surely isn't the case for most people.
>>being stuck on a shitty DRM service is better than an OS
Yes? If you think W10 (that can even uninstall or remove shit it deems shouldn't be on the system) is better than Steam you're a fucking retard.
Steam has tons of shit and Valve are fucking incompetent yes, but W10 is for braindead retards.
Did it not even occur to you why they gave away the upgrade for free, you massive idiot.
>>being stuck on one mediocre console is better than being stuck on anther mediocre console
Like I said, out of the two teh PS4 is the lesser evil. Sorry but I'm not some idiot that "buys american" or some shit.
Yeah, because BlazBlue is clearly the most hardcore fighter out there. Especially with them dumbing it down constantly.
I mean GG Accent Core +? Man what kind of kiddie game is that? BlazBlue is what the men play, amirite?
