So I'm watching this for the first time right now. I have the whole series next to me and I plan on marathoning through. My question is what are the good Alien video games?
Isolation and infestation are the only two good alien games.
If you like the idea of the alien and predator sharing a universe, all three AVP games are decent, with AVP2 being the best of the trilogy.
The arcade games were all pretty damn solid, though I haven't checked in years to find if any of them are available on something like Steam, PSN, or XBLA.
As for console made games, the AvP games are generally solid, even the most recent one is pretty fun if you can ignore some underwhelming moments.
Isolation is really good, but can wear on if you're the type who prefers shorter and to the point conclusions with a game. Not to mention the "evolving" AI can be a bit obtuse at times.
I liked the shooters on PS1
There was a DS game that was entertaining
I liked AvP3 7th gen one, even though it's horribly imbalanced in Predator's favor and the story and enemy AI sucked
Fuck Colonial Marines
Space Station 13 currently has a colonial marines server up. http://www.colonial-marines.com/portal
Playing an alien on it can be pretty fun. Probably the only aliens related thing with multiplayer that's still really active sadly.
>So I'm watching this for the first time right now.
what? like, while you're posting? you better not be or you are one dumb motherfucker
why people don't watch a movie in one sitting is beyond me, fuck, two hours is not a great amount of time, you can fucking not fiddle with your computer for 3 goddamn seconds and fucking pay attention and maybe try being IMMERSED, I would guess shitposting on a tibetan comic forum kinda does shit-all for any tension the film may have had
Don´t woory it´s fine.
You´re not gonna watch Alien 3 right?
God, thinking what a xenomoprh cat could be like is horrifying. Considering a facehugger is almost twice of the size of one, the poor thing would probably explode into bits once the chestburster was ready
I was gonna watch all of them and then Prometheus. I hear another one is coming out, and that they were going to blend it with Bladerunner, which is one of my favorite movies of all time, hence why I decided to actually check out the movies.
I would honestly say avoid 4, the quality of the film is so detrimental to the rest of the series that even watching it out of grim curiosity could possibly ruin the franchise for you.
3 is at least worth a viewing
Alien 1+2 are milestones but you can avoid most of the other movies. 3 is ok-ish, 4 is terrible. And Prometheus isn´t really alien either. Also completely avoid anything AvP related.
No, 3 is easily the worst, it has nothing going for it. 4 somewhat ties up the series but its pretty mediocre.
1 and 2 are the only ones that are actually worth watching though.
Well the chestburster in 3 came out of a dog and it looked different.
I can't imagine /v/ is as snobby with movies as /a/ is with anime or /tv/ is with shows and movies. We can be bitchy about games, but I like to think we're alright with other media.
Yea, but the dog, and most dog breeds in general, are larger than cats. A cat with one inside would probably burst at the seems, and probably with something really gnarly looking inside it
Streams with /v/ are a great time
If it's a quotable movie like Kung Pow, people are quoting along with the film
People react to shit going down
People laugh and make jokes
It's seriously fun
Fuck off /mu/, go ruin someone else's fun
Yeah a cat "pregnant" with a chestburster would be a pretty sad sight. And the alien coming out of it would probably be pretty small and extremely fast/agile.
Well according to 3 it is. I know 3 is pretty much noncanon but the alien in it was certainly smaller. Also maybe the chestburster grows bigger if it gets to eat more meat from its host? But yeah there isn´t a whole lot known about this.
>mfw I hear meowing early in Alien Isolation, in the luggage section where I need to power a generator
Instantly took me back to the first film where one of the crew members was looking for Jonesy.
Not as tense as that fucking medical center early on. I almost had a heart attack navigating through the crew quarters there with no flamethrower. I also think the flamethrower was a tad to strong and took away some of the tension.
The "dog alien" was still pretty much human-sized. Not 7 feet like regular drones but still big enough. Cat Alien would probably be like 5 feet. Let´s just hope it wouldn´t meow instead of hiss that´d creep me out.
Could be smaller, which would be pretty creepy because it could scurry much faster. Maybe even have adapted claws like a cat. And given how nasty those little shits can be when they're pissed, imagine an alien cat trying to scratch you up
>Alien and AvP comics
>fucking facehugger cums in a gorilla
A gorillion? Also fuck Weyland and their crazy ass experiments.
Alien Isolation is /the/ Alien Movie experience. Period. There are other fun games, most of them actionative. But if you want to be ripley sneaking around being hunted by an infernal alien rapebeast, then boot up that Alien Iso asap. Set its difficult to Hard, that is the movie experience. This isn't some edgy advice, you will genuinely enjoy it more.
You know, I really don't think the dog/cow xenomorph should have the same face as a human xenomorph, considering there's a human skull visible through a human xenomorphs forehead
just makes no sense desu
Well the extended cut was made from a bunch of unused footage and some newer stuff. Officially, oxen/bull based xenos had more distinguished features. At least, the toys and comics for them did.
Who didn't see them? When they first came out, fans literally flocked to them thinking they'd be the hypest shit.
Second movie, despite being overly gorely schlock, did at least feel more like what you'd think of a "Predator vs. Alien" story than the first with it's "gaggle of retard humans get slaughtered while a few preds and aliens fumble around"
Since when is Prometheus good? Most of the characters were clinically retarded. I mean they were supposed to be scientists and they do the most stupid shit ever (lets pet that snake, lets take off our helmets, lets split up in this alien ruin, etc etc...) just because plotwise they´re supposed to be alien-food. And that surgery scene is atrocious.
Well, if you had paid attention to the movie
>lets pet that snake, lets take off our helmets, lets split up in this alien ruin
They were not scientists
But yeah, still kinda stupid to take off the helmets in an unknown location
Wasn't colonel marines a major shady thing? Like they got money from another company for another game to make but then used it to make a half assed game and add dlc to the other one or something?
Second one had the most disturbing scene in any movie ever to me. The alien that burst from a predators chest (end of avp1) goes into a hospital up to the maternity ward and starts mouthing alien things down the pregnant women's throats and into their stomach presumably eating the baby inside and making them burst out later. I can't deal with babies dying in movies.. they're so fragile and innocent.. pretty sure it flat out kills some of the screaming women. Both are decent movies if you like the alien/predator creatures, but not the best stories or acting at all.
Creative Assembly will never make an Isolation style game set during an Aliens or AVP scenario where you're an average guy trying to survive.
Not that I wouldn't mind being a marine again, but it's become boring compared to the tension that Isolation offers.
>average guy surviving an Aliens or AvP scenario
Isn´t Isolation exactly that? There´s a hive (Aliens), multiple aliens and the protagonist is an engineer, not a marine/soldier.
It'd be cool to combine the two. You and a team get in to a colony and find out it's been taken over. Your evac gets fucked and as the game progresses you lose guys, weapons, and any abilities they might have brought with them.
I just keep imagining making a slow trek back to the hub area with a smart gun I found. It has no ammo and my only "weapon" is a signal flare that I'm to use if shit goes south, so someone else can come back and gather the supplies from my corpse. The scope on it works, and with it the tracking, but it flickers on and off.
Then I see a med kit at the end of a long hallway that could save the life of another marine that got scratched up in an earlier encounter.
Pretty much, but the source material is more from Alien though. There is a hive
no queen, although CA CLAIMS there is one, but it was cut/never implemented. Some fans speculate the Alien using eggmorphing from the original Alien draft.
Kind of want more of the same but with a twist and a hero that's still human and vulenarbale but can handle combat better than Amanda, if it's cannon-fodder Xenos that is.
Like this. It'd be interesting to mingle with Marines if you choose to or steal from them etc.
