>>323630352 It's fake, he tipped his hand with his sperg about "dialogue blending," which would be logistically IMPOSSIBLE to pull off seamlessly to the degree he's talking about, and also an absolute fucking nightmare for any sound engineer, VA director, voice actor, etc. to think about.
>>323631559 You don't seem to understand: unless Valve is prepared to spend an amount of capital comparable (possibly more) to what they're spending on the development of the game and _just_ for the audio recording, and all that entails (extraordinary lines of dialogue, the takes necessary to get usable material. etc.) it would still be tantamount to throwing millions and milllions of dollars in work and man hours down a hole, because it would never work. The margin of error would be entirely too great for individual words/phrases sewn together to ever sound seemless, let alone an ENTIRE GAME'S worth.
>>323632543 Because they have the money and each HF installment always serves as a tech demo >>323632568 >unless Valve is prepared to spend an amount Valve has hat money, they don't even have to show up to work anymore. Also each source engine uses HF as a techdemo that develops into further titles. It's an investment either way.
>>323632447 >the combine guard tells you to pick up the can and put it in the trash >every single piece of litter in the trash bin has its own story and the world around it was simulated offering explanations for how it got there >an npc gets up and makes coffee and throws out the coffee grounds >an npc takes his dog for a walk and the dog craps and the npc puts it in the trash
I mean, the half-life games were pretty good, but not the second coming of our lord and savior Jesus Christ, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thine will be done on earth as it is in heaven that everyone makes them out to be.
>>323633749 I was in that thread. Was fun. But those mods are real life Valve autists. Also this guy did say this had nothing to do with VR and VR will have not decide their future games something Gabe said in some interview. Either he's just a parrot or he works at Valve and knows their work ethics.
Either way I don't think much will come out of this as the mods refuse to post the evidence because they fear the guy will get fired and get fucked by NDA
>>323631391 The hell? It's entirely possible. However, it'll either end up as youtube poop level sentance mixing or require that everyone speak in a monotonous tone of voice.
The guy hypes it up but it honestly just sounds like "so it'll be like Half Life 2 but with a Zelda style map and the director system from L4D". They sure are spending a lot of time on useless shit like sentance mixing npc dialogue and it sounds like the purpose of the director is just to remix encounters slightly each time you play. That doesn't really sound that revolutionary, it just sounds like applying the L4D thing to a game that's not L4D.
Right now the story is: >Reddit employee is salvaging the situation: >Mod gets contacted by a fake account pretending to be a reddit employee >Mod gets told to approve the leaker's post, no questions asked. >Mod deletes post >Reddit employee says it's all fake and reddit employees never contacted the Mod, which doesn't explain post removal and Valve employee asking for it to be taken down
>Mod's story >Gets post from leaker >Mod asks for proof >Mod gets proof >Post gets approved >Mod starts to comment that the evidence is credible but could get the leaker fired >Mod receives post from Valve employee to remove post >Post gets removed but says Valve is behind removal and those that saw it are lucky >Rants that there are now posts on the subreddit hanging him out even though he believes the leaker >Reddit employee comes in and starts saying the mod got a fake post from a fake reddit employee which mod never mentioned
Seems like the reddit employee's story is not adding up.
>People falling, nonstop, for vague leaks, and other bullshit surrounding Half Life 3 Remember when the Half Life logo showed up in the Christmas comic, remember how that totally confirmed an ARG that would lead to Half Life 3?
Valve is in the business of being a storefront + microtransaction operation. The only games they'll ever do themselves these days are multiplayer games, that can make use of their microtransaction model.
It's time to give it up. The original fans are no longer the target market. The new target market is much younger, and doesn't have the ties to Half-Life that older fans have.
>>323636419 >Jumping through fucking hoops to make your bullshit "I believe" logic work I fucking hate you people. I couldn't be more hyped for a new Half Life game if I tried, but you faggots need to fuck off. Every time someone farts in an elevator you're there sniffing it down and quantifying the scent as proof of Half Life 3s existence. Just fucking die already.
Seems like bullshit to me, especially the part about the car being made of individual parts. The engine doesn't do that, the artists still have to make the pieces and the programmers have to stick it all together. It's been done in unity, you could do it in any 3d engine. Seems like whoever doesn't know shit about how games are made
>>323637243 Ok, explain to me why the mod received this professional looking PR mail that claimed they were from fake reddit admin mail AFTER the OP had deleted his post.
Why would he delete his post and then ask for it to be deleted and fake a valve id?
People are calling it fake because the ID in the imgur link (now deleted) was just blurry, whilst the mod has yet to post the images he got from the OP.
Reddit admins, the real ones, said they never sent this message and that the leak has yet to be proven as a hoax.
>Edit: We're not saying that the leak was a hoax. I'm saying that the message to the mod claiming to be a reddit employee acting on behalf of Valve was a fake message. We have no idea what the leak was, or whether or not it was true.
>>323638078 True that's my whole arguing point, the mod refuses to post the REAL proof he was provided.
He only posted the message with the ID he got from some PR guy, that knows very well how a Reddit admin message would look like. It was 100% social engineering from the PR representing Valve. The HL3 proof is what I want which he wont provide which makes me think he's actually helping out Valve now
>>323630352 >guy who created the story jumps off >probably sick of sitting on his desk doing nothing and never releasing any games for years >the chick who made portal did the same >also the guy who made visuals for HL2 and then Dishonored >and many others valve has hemorrhaging talent for single player games for a while now, they clearly don't give a fuck because steam moneys
>>323639043 Which Gabe confirmed years ago, It's HL3 now. >>323637924 This makes no sense, why would the HL3 leaker remove his post and then make a new account and ask the post to be removed through a professional looking message? This looks like a cease and desist order, I doubt the leaker is familiar with this PR shit.
This is the most important bit. The talent that made Half Life 2 are long gone, Valve is a radically different organisation than whaf it was in 2007.
The point is, the HL3 we could have gotten all those years ago would have been radically different to what we coyld get in the future. That intersection of talent only existed for a period of time, and now it's gone. Even if HL3 did get announced, it wouldn't be the true HL3 we could have gotten.
>>323639386 I saw the credits for dishonored and saw the map design was credited to the HL2 guy, immediately after playing the first levels I noticed the game had bunch of different paths and quirks just like HL games had and I kept thinking "Fuck, Valve fucked up letting him go."
>>323639507 By the end of the game, since it's procedural not only will it be fully grown but it will be a different tree each playthrough and you can cut it down to build a house. And when you see it, YOU CAN ENTER IT AND START A FAMILY IN IT
>>323630352 Uh yeah this is Valve I'm going to have to ask you to delete this thread and please don't post that image again. We'd PM you about this but we can't figure out how to send PM's on this site so please just cooperate thank you.
It's fake, I've done research. Here's the timeline. I can provide pictures of logs etc if you guys are not convinced, this will clear everything up.
>Leaker reads valve emails as any fan would, which are constantly posted on half life subreddit. >These mails always have jokes in them. >Leaker writes his autism post. >To pitch that the post should not be removed by mods (which they usually are done) he writes a heartfelt letter and then puts in a Valve-tier joke which makes the mod think it's a classic jokey valve employee. >Leaker posts the thread and then says two odd things. 1. I cannot post real proof like art etc because they would find me within the 30 people involved and that not everyone in valve knows that HL3 is in development. 2. In his first PM he said he was one of the hundred employees working on HL3.
Those numbers don't add up. >After his PM he replies with an image url of a blurry ID card which has now been deleted. >Post goes viral. >Leaker makes new acc and sends a professional looking message to the mod saying he is from reddit and that Valve wants the thread removed. To trick the mod, he has included the leakers private messages to the mod earlier, thus the mod thought it was a real admin contacting him that knew what was going on. >Leaker does not realize that the mod is on a doctors appointment and can't reply to the "remove thread" message from the fake acc. >Leaker panics, thinks mod realizes its a fake acc and deletes his post and account. >Mod eventually replies to message and says he cant delete post because it's already removed but that he can remove comments. >Fake acc says it's ok to remove comments. >Mod explains situation and real admins get notified about this removal >Admins are confused and say they never got valve asking about removal >Mod provides message screencaps which show the fake acc deleted after real admins showed up
>>323630352 All the stuff mentioned in the rabbit post sounds cool, but a fucking nightmare to properly implement and bugtest. Also Marc Laidlaw left Valve which means that either the script of HL3 is done or that Valve canned anything related to it.
