>>323620146 Splatoon involves the community with events such as splatfest and, as far as I know, has released a ton of free maps and game modes after release
To get the full game of Battlefront you'd need to buy a $60 or $50 season pass on top of the games price tag of $60 which is pretty steep all for a game that's meant to have a long lasting entertainment value
>>323620146 >quantity over quality This is why people kept bashing the Wii OP, it had more shovelware titles than games that could actually peak people's interests. The same could also be said for all the PS4 multiplats people keep trying to rub in your face, doesn't mean you're going to buy every single one of them.
Splatoon has 10/10 top tier core gameplay dragged down by a frankly underwhelming amount of content and the absence of various quality of life upgrades that are industry standard for online games. No lobby load out editing, no regional servers, can't back out of lobbies, a lack of songs on the sound track and a lack of maps (even map variations), the map rotation feature makes sense in theory to prevent scenarios where 99% of games are on one map (looking at you black ops nuke town) but rotate too infrequently and have too small a selection, only one ranked mode is on at a time and rank is universal across all ranked modes.
It's fantastic gameplay sabotaged by its framework it exists within, a perfect exemplar of Nintendo's great game design but terrible inability to keep up with industry standards. Would have benefitted from a second team or company who do a lot of online play helping them.
>>323622397 >>323622531 >>323622539 Frankly the only problem people seem to have with this game is whining that it's not like the game they wanted. If we rated every game like that there'd be very little to recommend. I think the amount of biase this site has is so staggering that they're not willing to give any popular publisher a fair chance.
>>323623404 >Frankly the only problem people seem to have with this game is whining that it's not like the game they wanted. But the game was marketed like this: >"Remember that awesome Star Wars game you played for 300+ hours?" >"Well, we are going to make a game like that, but better."
>>323623849 No, I rememeber that on the site of the game they hoped to complete the spectations that everyone had about the game, which means that they should have at the very leat based their game on the other two games.
>>323623919 >>323624016 >>323624091 So you're saying we have to base every single game on past games? That's bullshit. Games should be based on their own merits. To not do so is to admit a heavy bias before even going into the review process.
>>323620146 One is a new entry that's introducing a new thing and playstyle. One bastardized a well loved series and absolubtly ruined most of the original appeal of said series, on top of jewing the crap out of you.
I hate current Nintendo and refuse to buy shit from those fucks but splatoon was a step in the right direction, EA shill, fuck off.
>>323624274 IF A GAME ISN'T EVEN AS GOOD AS ITS DIRECT PREDECESSOR WHAT JUSTIFICATION DOES IT HAVE TO EXIST AT ALL? IT'S NOT OKAY TO TAKE SIGNIFICANT STEPS BACKWARDS JUST BECAUSE YOU HAVEN'T FALLEN OFF THE CLIFF YET.
>>323624535 >IF A GAME ISN'T EVEN AS GOOD AS ITS DIRECT PREDECESSOR WHAT JUSTIFICATION DOES IT HAVE TO EXIST AT ALL? It honestly would've been fine if the game at least did SOMETHING better than it's predecessor.
>>323624274 >So you're saying we have to base every single game on past games
Yes, games in a series should be based and compared to the earlier titles, when your game has less content than the first games 11 years ago there is a problem. And don't say "hurr durr its not a sequel cuz there is no 3 in the title" its still the third game in the series, there is a certain standard that should be met. It like if they made a Duke Nukem game that has a two weapon limit, less levels and worse gameplay after over a decade of waiting. oh wait...
So what exactly happened with battlefront? Why did they spend so long to make such a small game?
It seriously feels like it was made in a few months to be worth around £15 or be F2P not a full game.
>Remove enter-able vehicles >Remove classes altogether, everyone is a variation of a basic trooper >Remove space battles >Remove campaign >Remove everything in reference to prequels >Have literally one map in reference to sequels >Have 6 heroes total, down from the ridiculous 20+ battlefront 2 had
>Everything is rebel vs empire which are purely cosmetic differences, no more droideka's vs clone snipers or any of the other crazy matchups the last game had
>>323625118 No I'm talking about not having an ethernet port in 2012 I'm talking about the completely monetized DLC 2007 system they're taking after being against it like complete hypocrites. I'm talking about their underachieving hardware with nothing more than a gimmick that just makes developing and porting games harder, then they wonder why no one wants to develop for them.
I'm talking about the horribly stupid decisions like only allowing one game pad I'm talking about horrible stuff like splatoon locking out tons of people randomly at times because of the badly implemented p2p system I'm talking about their horrible actual ps2 textures on a hyped, developed in house star fox game after years. I'm talking about them being 10 years behind everyone else ranging from limited monetary transactions to their online shop to their multiplayer. I'm talking about their need to just keep rehashing games with no real gameplay and when they try to make it just a bit different they throw everything out of the window like skyward sword. I'm talking about how they keep fucking up things until I realized I was done with their crap
>Gameplay is dull and repetitive >No classes, something basic in a first/third person shooter >No reward in terms of gameplay. That is when you get to play a legendary character it isn't because you've earned it by playing it good >All guns feel the same and they work the same among other similar weapons >Very little content in consideration for the price >Little to no gameplay modes in consideration for the price >60 dollar season pass that will not fix the previous issues >You'll pay twice for the content of a single game >DLC that adds nothing When making the comparisons with other games I'm not making them to the other two Star Wars Battlefront, I'm doing it to most shooters out there.
>>323625117 Actually it's kind of obvious what they were going for. Understanding their motives involves thinking about the target audience. Targeted at people who buy it because "its star warz XD" How could it have ended up any other way? Everything they had went on graphics and sound. Nothing beyond the skin and bones of gameplay was deemed necessary. This is how games are now. If you don't like it, time to stop buying AAA. Can't win in this shitty industry.
>>323625676 >subjective, I like it just fine >classes are a relic of the past, the modern thing to use is custom load outs >the point of playing isn't to get to play as a hero, it's to win. Winning is the reward, anon >but they don't. If this is true then there wouldn't be a meta about how a certain gun is too OP >fun cannot be priced. A fighting game has only a versus mode, is this too little content for you? A single player game only has a story mode, is this too little content for you? >again, there is no issue here except the ones you've created in your head with your mullish conviction that this game murdered your family or something >no, the DLC maps add extra things, that's why they're DLC >maps and heroes aren't certainly conjured out of thin air, anon
>>323625117 Because after Disney made that deal with EA giving them exclusive rights to publishing Star Wars games for the next decade, the EA executives were lost in a trance wringing their hands in delightful glee for many months before they realized that meant they had to make a game.
EA basically took one of the greatest multiplayer franchisees of all time and took a massive heaping shit on it with one of the most poorly designed shooters with some of the most lacking content for a full price release with a focus of graphics over gameplay and says "oh you want a full game? Fuck you pay an additional $50" Nintendo made a new IP, and while lacking, shows creativity and fun compared to the boring shit heap that is Battlefront and could prosper into something great with a fully fledged sequel
>>323625117 because they hoped people would buy it just for being star wars and they were right casuals did fall for that, but now star wars fever is dying so casuals are buying it less and less and are moving on to the next nerdy thing to latch on to.
No actually star wars fans like this game I have yet to meet one who even had one nice thing to say about it besides its graphics.
the best part is rebels and episode VII accidentally make fun of a few of EAs retarded design decisions
>>323620146 Battlefront is shit, just get over it and move on with your life. The gameplay is simplistic and casual friendly as shit, every weapon works the same, the maps have no flow, gets boring after a couple of hours because of that, no strategy based maps, no decent customization, no campaign at all, vehicle modes are boring as shit... so on and so on.
Honestly, I blame Tortanic. /v/ is like the autistic kid who called it right once and now spends its days with its fingers in its ears yelling that the next game is a failure despite all evidence to the contrary. Stay classy, assholes, knowing you fuckers are alive in the world makes me feel a little less like helping humanity. And with that, I'm out. It's obvious there's no changing a hipster's mind once he's dead set on it. Here's thought. Breathing is such a popular thing to do. Why don't you shitheads be all hipster-like and stop breathing? It'd do us all a real favor.
>>323626363 Tell him that praise means nothing, and that Sonic should have stayed in 2D. Tell him that an all powerful corporation like EA has the obligation to give you something that is worth the price of what you are paying for. The studios behind Sonic are all half dead, less content is expected.
You're forgetting the most important part, that being the gameplay and the mechanics are pretty fucing different. Splatoon at least brought something new to the table, or if you're gonna be a shitter and mention De Blob, relatively new and unexplored.
>>323632430 Rebels makes a few references to all blasters needing ammo which contradicts EA saying star wars guns do not use ammo.
Episode VII has the line where phasma tells finn he is not allowed to take off his helmet unless ordered to. Which has been canon even before VII but its the first time mentioned in the movies. Dice was lazy as fuck and just copy pasted the head models from the rebels on to the storm troopers. Whats funny is their are color coded units in canon they could have just done that.
Also only a dev who never saw episode V would put tie fighters on hoth.
I didn't buy any of the next gen consoles because I decided instead I was going to go through a huge backlog of retro games (when I was growing up we only had Nintendo consoles, we were a one console per gen house and my mom didn't want me getting M rated games since I had so many younger siblings, the PS3 was the last console I'd bought a few years ago. ).
>>323633491 nope no game has ever had tie fighters on hoth beside EA battlefont that I can recall
the reason why for anyone who forgot is that the shield the rebel based had would stop tie fighters from getting close. It also defeats the purpose of the AT-ATs when a tie bomber could easily just destroy the generator. They pretty much missed the whole point of the battle.
>>323632184 >as a critically acclaimed masterpiece No, it's not loved among plebs. It gets the hate it deserves because it uses the Battlefront title just as a means to sell games. Star Wars Battlefront II, a game that came 11 years ago, is infinitely better,
>>323634890 or the fact that they have star destroyers visible on hoth, while in episode V they were outside of orbit so the rebels could not shoot them with ion canon while the empire just sat there and took it. They picked the worst battle to market the game with because half the stuff in their version of hoth makes no sense
>Construction company builds functional, pretty and comfy building >Gets bought out by huge contstruction company >11 years later, they put a really good looking brick in an empty lot >say it's the spiritual successor of the building
