What the fuck is this?
My dick can't take anymore.
>"we need new ideas for xcom2"
>"we need to make the game harder, harder means better as seen in dark soul"
>"what we need is a suicide bomber enemy type that just fuck shit up"
>"what if we make the game too hard and unfair?"
>"who cares, they will just call each other casuals instead of blaming the game, hahahaha thank you dark soul"
>being this much of a casual crybaby
This game isn't unfair
Terror from the deep would turn your asshole inside out, stick to visual novels.
can't wait for war of the worlds mods for those sectopodes
Not sure it's even possible at this point without major work.
UI and gameplay was built around precision only a mouse can give. They'd have to gut it and kill the difficulty to get it on consoles.
Plebs should just get a PC.
Is not just the gameplay, the art style is also oriented for PC, is why guns are normal size instead of giant cartoony nerf guns and the characters aren't gorillas like the first one.
>Consolefags making petitions to port PC games to console AND petitions to not port their games to PC
Great. I can't wait to be really pissed off by whatever bullshit that things pulls.
Not like all the other shit they announced isn't going to just rape the shit out of me...
I am excited
>mfw I feel like I know pretty much everything about the game already except for the story
>mfw indulged way too much and the gameplay holds no surprises or novelty for me anymore already despite the fact that I have never even played it
I wish I would've had more self control.
Xcom threads are hot this week, thank God.
Three questions :
1. How to fight the Berserkers
2. Are SHIVs any good
3. Should I consider giving one of my Assaults an assault rifle, and if so, is the left or right tree better?
>1. How to fight the Berserkers
it take a few step toward anyone who shoots it. so you can bait around
>2. Are SHIVs any good
For Shits and giggles yes. But mechs are superior in every way.
>3. Should I consider giving one of my Assaults an assault rifle, and if so, is the left or right tree better?
Yes. unless using a unit for double shotty abilities/stuning.
Cool, thanks, though I did fuck up and went straight left and right for the only two I have. I also don't have MECs yet. I swear, RNG hates me in this game. I have 2 snipers, 2 Assaults, 2 Supports and 6 fucking Heavies. Might have to buy a soldier or two.
Also, what's meld?
anon, that would certainly kill you.
Not like fucking the snake where there's a slim possibility it's mouth doesn't have those weird ass teeth snakes have in real life, no, this shit would kill you for real.
>Are SHIVs any good
Yes but only if you upgrade them. They are vastly underrated and can save your ass after a squad wipe on ironman mode
>Should I consider giving one of my Assaults an assault rifle
Assault rifle are safer but shotgun are stronger. However you need to be very close to be accurate with the shotgun so it's a high risk, high reward thing
>Also, what's meld?
A ressource in EW.
If you don't know what it is I'm guessing you're playing EU so there's no MEC class or gene mod.
>playing neo XCOM
LMAOing at your life
>not purging xenos in isis style
i pity the fags that don't want to have fun
Still on Enemy Unknown, I didn't know a second one was coming until I saw the hype here
Yeah, rocketing everything to death is fun and all, but right now I need their shit and the hot doctor says not to blow them up. Also my Heavies don't hit shit and it's really annoying. Maybe I spent all my RNG goats on Warframe.
Never seen any, hoe do you find it?
> Still on Enemy Unknown
Theres an expansion pack to Xcom enemy Unknown called Enemy Within.
Its the same game but just with extra content are theres zero reason to play enemy unknown over enemy within.
God, that Vahlen "dont play somthing up" trap... dont hear at that, dead aliens are more important than some weapon fragments.
There is no need for EW anymore, save the money for Xcom:2
I dunno, I think the systems Enemy Within dumps on you in the early game are a little overwhelming, id say to start with EU and at least get to the mid or lategame before switching
XCOM 2 is really not going to be any harder than EU/EW unless that is you were so shit at it that you just slowly crept up and overwatch in nearly every situation and don't know how to make actual decisions for yourself. If you're too reliant on soldier promotions than you will also be hurt by xcom 2.
The second wave setting makes ALL flanking shots criticals, and the beauty of shivs is you don't give a shit about cover so its flanking all day. Hover shivs literally rape everything in sight.
Can see trouble against shit like sectopods though, the DPS without crits just can't take it down fast enough.
Despite the description it "only" raised the chance to make a crit to 100% (from 50%) meaning you could still not crit against enemies with crit resistance skills.
It also applies against you.
>retail PC version
Thanks for outing yourself shill. http://steamspy.com/app/200510
Try this idiot. Now match that with the retail versions of the console games that your beloved vgchartz has. Steam top played games alone destroy that it only sold .69 million on PC. Stop using a source that doesn't even include downloads about a platform predominately based on downloads.
So in short, buy hover SHIVs and give one of my Assaults a assault rifle, cool? Cool.
Other stupid questions : outside of satellite coverage and abductions, there's no way of reducing panic, right? Arr Engineers are more important that scientists, do I stick armor on literally everyone, why am I always so broke( $573 a month, not counting corpse sales), is Chitin armor worth shit, is the Plasma Rifle and pistol the only one that drops from stunned enemies, Lasers vs plasma?
>buy hover SHIVs
High ranking soldier will usually outperform them. Buy them if you get squad wiped
>Arr Engineers are more important that scientists
>do I stick armor on literally everyone
If you can afford it.
>is Chitin armor worth shit
>is the Plasma Rifle and pistol the only one that drops from stunned enemies
There's a total of 4 plasma weapon that you can drop.
>Lasers vs plasma
Laser is tier 2, plasma is tier 3 tech.
If you're playing on normal or below you can try to ignore laser tech and rush plasma tech for a big technological advantage. It can also be done on classic with some luck.
Council missions grant panic reduction, shooting down UFOs and raiding them I think grants panic reduction, assaulting the alien base gives one-time GLOBAL panic reduction so it's good to use tactically.
Engineers let you build higher tier facilites and shit earlier, good for rushing to satellite nexuses (2 nexus + 2 relays in a square = global coverage potential).
If you don't put armor on people, they WILL get one-shot.
Until you get good satellite coverage and the All In nation bonus, being broke most of the time is normal.
Mutons will start carrying actual plasma rifles for you to loot later on (and heavy floaters), so try to get some off them instead of making them youself cause they're not cheap. Chitin armor is ok as a placeholder item, mainly when you get the double item slot upgrade from the Foundry. I usually slap a scope on everything because +10 aim is always, always useful.
Will upgrade is for psionics later. Higher will = more chances to get a psionic. I hate that mechanic, because your soldiers, who served the whole time under your command have low will at the end, and you must train new people who get more will into psionics... god thanks this want be anymore the case in Xcom:2
There are 5 man-portable plasma weapons. Pistol, light plasma rifle (grants +10 aim, good for leveling shitty aim rookies), plasma rifle, heavy plasma (heavies only), plasma sniper (you have to build this one since no aliens carry one, sniper only). There is also an endgame shotgun, the alloy cannon, which is only equippable by the assault, and it does something like 20 damage on a crit.
Really? Sign me the fuck up then, because mind control is balls. I got fucking squad wiped because my sniper got MCd in the base with Double Tap. Fuck that.
IS there a way to tell who has what? I never got the heavy rifle and I need 6.
>want to watch all the videos regarding xcom 2
>but don't want everything spoiled
Haven't met Muton Elites yet. Fuck me. I still have trouble with Cyberdiscs.
That brings me to another point, how does HEAT ammo calculate damage? I've never actually hit with it, but it still shows the standard 7 damage the laser rifle gets.
Just look at it this way.
>Won't be surprised
>Will instead be terrified of every civilian ever
Or you'll just forget they're a thing and be surprised when it finally does happen.
The estimated damage 'preview' shown on the target before making a shot doesn't take weakness/resistance into account, I think, but it should do an extra 50% to cyberdisks/sectopods, 100% if you're not playing Enemy Within.
The bitching I remember most was people complaining that the RNG locks before you move so you can't save scum.
Apparently that was bad for some reason, though I could never get a reason why other than you can't save scum.
What difficulty are you boys going to play on?
friendly reminder that civilians can now turn into these fuckers that are like as high as a building
friendly reminder that Gatekeepers automatically revive fallen enemies AND friends as zombies
friendly reminder that Chrysalids no longer make zombies, instead they make a cocon out of their pray, which erupts into 3 other Chrysalids.
friendly reminder that Chrysalids can now burrow into ground and move through concrete
friendly reminder that Sectoids now have mind control right from the start of the game
friendly reminder that Berserkers now can now move two times farther than normal move range
friendly reminder that the Ayys now have Big Daddies, who can literally bust through walls, and spews acid
i guess for your soldiers names and how they looked like
>tfw i'm getiing my german wonderboy back
that nigga never missed a shot
>normal too easy for me but i get to be a bit reckless
>classic too hard for me unless i cheese it
no adjacency bonus, full character and weapon customization that can be imported into all playthroughs, overwatch shots now fire in order instead of everyone at once, there is no air fighting with interceptors, you are now hidden at the start of the missions and can use stealth to ambush enemies before they see you, the sniper starts with oversight, pistols are majorly buffed and you can literally make Ocelot out of a sniper with the Gunslinger class, you can now hack shit with your support, there are a shitton of new aliens, the maps are randomly generated every time so you'll never play the same map again, Loot system: fallen enemies and allies will yield loot that can be picked up and brought back to base, backpack for loot, limited carrying capacity per soldier, Mission Objectives to complete missions - killing all enemies is optional, entirely destructible environments, floors and ceilings included, there are now Fire, Acid and Explosive barrels, Skyranger extraction zone can be called in anywhere on the map, so long as there is sufficient space to do so, weapons can now be upgraded with various mods and parts looted from enemies and these weapons can be freely moved between soldiers, the weapons confirmed so far are Ballistic, Magnetic, Laser and Plasma, Gender and Nationality can be freely customized, you can now Re-talent soldiers so no more 10 snipers 0 assault situations, veteran soldiers will receive unique customization options. Snek.
that's pretty most of the new things without spoilers
Thanks anon for spoiling everything. That will really increase the enjoyment of everyone playing the game.
PCfag here. I am genuinely mad you guys wont be able to play the game. We had fu ntalking aobut XCOM and all platforms, including mobile.
>do or die scenario
>refuses to do anything he can to survive
you don't belong in xcom you should just join advent you pleb
I have a snapshot sniper with it, but she's crooked as fuck even with a scope. Only girl I have on the team (besides a support) and she's shit.
Speaking of, Smoke Bombs are basically half cover, right? Also best items for classes
Well it comes to the wire that on which general do you want to participate as you advance in the game alongside other posters.
I can guarantee that XCOM2 threads are better than DS3 ones.
>There are like 4 times more new aliens compared to EW you idiot
And no one ever gives a source to these claims.
should I buy xcom on iPhone, I'm poorfag that can only play most mobile games
XCOM:EU sold poorly on consoles, no point making the game simpler for a console release if the money isn't there. Plus PC was were the active fanbase was, alongside the sales.
you are now aware that despite mind control, misinformation, and subterfuge the people in the world of xcom are aware of chrysilids wandering around and are ok with that.
They better explain this shit. Because that alone is grounds for get the fuck of my planet.
SCOPE on all, a couple of grenades for when you absolutely need splash or guaranteed damage, and a medpack on a heal-specialized support.
Endgame mind-shields are also a big fuck you to ethereals/sec commanders and give your psi-troops monster will for that delicious 100% mindfray/mind control chance.
I prefer snapshot. I can never seem to get Squadsight to work for me. Can never find a good position that actually lets me hit anything. Especially on missions inside alien bases. Id rather be able to have my sniper be able to shoot on the fly.
My best soldier the first time I beat the game was a snapshot sniper.
disdain for plebs.jpg
That said, i actually have the android version for shits and giggles, and it's pretty solid. But you have to have one of those controllers to play with, it just doesn't work well with touchscreen. A lot of the soldier customization options are also missing.
Wow, an actual ufo defense grognard? Man, i haven't seen one of your kind since the EU release back in 2012. I thought most of you went extinct when EW was out. I got to get a picture of this.
People prefer order over chaos no matter who's in charge and i don't blame them compared to (insert real life situation here). That and they get mind chips upgrades at free clinics that keep those annoying thoughts away.
I keep trying to get into long war but I find it seriously annoying. I just lost a satellite because all my interceptors had a fucking month of repair time after the last 3 ufos. How does that make sense?
Should I buy the Digital Deluxe edition, /v/?
>tfw they actually weren't lying when they said it would be easy to mod
Just making sure, since I don't follow it closely until release.
You can make some easter eggs with the data though. Like meeting your old soldiers as part of enemy teams or something. Imagine fighting your team from your last EU save file.
Honestly, I think that might be the best idea. I like a lot of things Long War seems to be trying to do, but its all piled with so much pointless crap that I can't actually enjoy it.
speaking of xcom, fuck this fucking enemy right here
>always spawns with drones that heal it
>can take 2 shots with it's big red laser attack
>can perform a mega collateral damage attack
>can take a free overwatch every turn
>tons of health
>takes less damage from attacks
>can take shots across the map and hit guys in smoke
>has a one square damage radius when it dies (explodes)
seriously, fuck these enemies. Such fucking bullshit, especially when I run into them early in a mission. They easily take out 3 of my guys before I manage to kill them.
How the fuck am I supposed to deal with them?
>have to go to store across the street
>head outside dude walking his dog walks by
>ground shift and chrysilid explodes out of ground and rips into dude walking his dog
>run like a mad man into the store
>scared as hell
>worried about family
>chrysislid is gone
>cocoon where dude was
>assume it will be back for him later
>make a run for home
>cocoon explodes into 3 chrysilids
>dive for cover
>see wife at home
>she uses her tongue to pull me out of cover.
>she then poisons the chrysislids
>finishes them off with her plasma rifle
>wraps me up in a big hug once we are inside
Thanks for the new world order ayys
>Make game that only sells well because of availability on consoles.
>Make sequel PC exclusive
Is there a dumber studio?
oops, forgot pic.
For some reason i got this mental image of xcom operatives burning down entire sites with countless collateral damage all while fist pumping and chanting like you would expect in earth defense force.
Not created equally and hidden potential are great, breaks the monotomy of soldier advancement nicely. You get some total screwballs with shit stats that you either sacrifice or dismiss, and then you get some fucking supermen that you value more than anything.
Aiming angles is a solid one that comes a great way of eliminating the "point blank with 90% chance to hit" problem.
>XCOM 2 ends with resistance winning
>aliens are completely destroyed and the ones who aren't flee into space
>human population hates XCOM for taking away their based ayylien overlords
Take it out from range. First kill the drones, then whittle the health down with your squadsight sniper and mech-damage heavy. Then when he's ripe for the taking, run and gun with an assault for a double shot to the face.
Gonna get my Steam Deluxe Edition pre-order in soon.
It's pretty great when you bring someone along as cannon fodder that has piss poor stats but just refuses to die and might even save the day in some situations. I love a good underdog story.
I am gonna preorder after i pay rent this month.
I ditched my laptop and build my new PC just so i would be up to specs to play xcom 2.
Feels like a drop in the ocean at this point
Actually, you're the one who is most likely to be autistic.
1. You don't like change
2. When change occurs, you can't keep your mouth shut and spout your opinion as gospel, objective, truth
3. When called on your opinion, you resort to insults, screaming and tantrums
So, now we've established you have at least three key markets for autism, you should get yourself tested, dem autism bux are great.
Not that faggot you replied too either.
>cyberdiscs are now ball shaped and can use melee, psi powers and zombies
do you feel better now? have mommy heat up some tendies for ya, bud.
I was really hoping xcom 2 was going to be mankind after conquering ayys and having ayys integrated into society.
Now i can't see an ending with all ayys being wiped out completely.
Is there a happy ending for the Ayys of earth?
Would you sponsor an ayy?
>yes that stupid bullshit originated from TUMBLR
>Hating Ayy Lmao
Are you a female twitch streamer?
Personally I would love an XCOM game where you go to their planet, and maybe even their entire area of domain (like multiple planets) But I would want it to be a continuation of 1 or 2 and have the upgrades go really tech based or Meld based (making yourself the monsters)
There's not that much risk in preordering the sequel since they've released a lot of free-form footage already, which looks solid even if it's from a by now month or two old build.
You know exactly what you're getting, so the only reason you would hold off is worry that it's going to break on day one. Which is pretty unlikely considering they said they were done with the game in september yet pushed it back to february for polish.
what an intelligent rebuttal that totally didn't make you look like an autistic teenager
Oh shit sorry sir I didn't realize who I was talking to.
I'll pack up my shit and go back to ribbit.
>XCOM sequel meshes turn-based and space exploration in your own massive space ship
>go to different planets to harvest resources
>go to different planets to trade
>go to different planets to fight hostile ayylien empire in all kinds of weather and terrain conditions
>yfw XCOM becomes the Mass Effect
you are lucky, i almost called the /v/ police on you
who am i kidding, you are a young and uncouth brat who wasn't around when the /v/ police was
Maybe like Total War where you have % based auto-resolve. And of course getting into the action yourself to make sure the squad doesn't try to kill ayyliens with a shotgun from max range.
It's a good thing mods will fix alien variety and might even just give us an endless sandbox mode to do stuff in.
CAN WE PLEASE GET A FUN ENDLESS SANDBOX MODE that still has a loss state of only when the Avenger is destroyed?
>take no chances and the easy ways out by eliminating everything in your path
>aliens eliminated but Earth is in shambles
>take the hard way by subterfuge, avoiding collateral, and doing the best to prevent structural and societal collapse
>defeat aliens and humanity is left more confused rather than broken
Bis for the guys
and one girl
We got exosuits and the AYYs have power armor of their own
>tfw dailymotion used to have a huge series of uncensored videos of japanese chicks getting erotic massages
>tfw one day they all vanished from the internet
Just preordered for $45. Last game I preordered was Civilization Beyond Earth. Same company. And it was a major disappointment. But I don't care, it looks too fucking good, and it seems like the A team is on this one.
This vile infestation must be purged from our lands.
I want to see what happend if you win, because the aliens are already on earth and not on their spaceships. I don't think they all get slauthered in the end sequence.
Snek surrender and live happily on human world
Not the guy you're replying to, but they've been good for me so far. The one time I had any troubles, I
foolishly pre-ordered Bioshock Infinite right before it came out so I could get a bonus pack of Bioshock 1, 2 and XCOM Enemy Unknown, and when I didn't get my XCOM key I just went support about it and got it the following day
metal gear tactical operations mod be outer heaven or philantrophy, one with a more combat-oriented focus and the other with a stealth focus. outer heaven tries to defeat the patriots (who replace the aliens), steal their tech and prosper. philantrophy tries to destroy the metal gears of the patriots and outer heaven croppings
>tought it would be a casual mess
>shaping up to be pretty good from what i've seen
I feel so relieved
Not the picture you're looking for but comfy nonetheless.
It's the same for all youtube competitor, once they reach a certain amount of "popularity", they'll remove what made them popular in the first place because it's illegal or too lewd or shit.
I was worried it was going to be a rehash it doesn't seem to be that at all. Every enemey, weapon, level, and sound effect is new. I'm having a hard time even spotting any reused assets, though the graphics seem mostly unchanged apart from a few new effects.
I have never ever played any XCOM and now I'm hyped to try XCOM2 out once it comes out.
The hype almost suprasses the M&B 2 hype.
Yes, yes we did.
Fantasize all you want, degenerate. We will purge all unclean creatures.
We must meet this threat with our courage, our valor, indeed with our very lives to ensure that human civilization, not insect, dominates this galaxy - now and always.
>the BE team literally bragged about not working on a Civilization game before
I remember this, they said it in interviews and everything. The game also didn't look too interesting in videos, but I figured it was just because Civ usually doesn't unless you're actually playing. And yet I still preordered it. I'm such a fucking retard.
>Jake 'Hot Load' Solomon
Why is he mad man?
>has yen and trissie on his fucking team
God dammit the devs are based
which reminds me: obligatory Geralt "White Wolf" character
Why the fuck you guys keep saying this? It's a fucking turn based strategy game. How the hell to fast reflexes and precision matter when you take all the damn time you want to do what you need to.
Played the previous game on console, btw. Worked fine.
I'm pretty sure the aliens got enslaved too, we saw this in EW. If we kill the etherals, we can free them and can join us. But all aliens who fight against humainty should get removed from earth.
The same type of apologist garbage spouted by those who wanted to let the Nazis off at the Nuremberg trials. "I was only following orders" does not excuse genocide, you collaborator.
Thats not the same. They have implants in their heads, get modified and such shit. We don't know how they will act after etherals are gone.
Officers arequit high on the rank order, so alien officers know the bad stuff what going on, so lower ehterals and secotid commanders will get killed anyway.
well it seems like it sold well enough on pc to warrant a pc only sequel.
>UI and gameplay was built around precision only a mouse can give.
you know, I played command and conquer red alert on the playstation. Didn't even have an anologue stick. they just had the cursor be controlled by the d-pad. Not only was it still fun, because red alert is amazing, the game sold well enough to bring a playstation-only expansion, retaliation (which was a combination of 2 pc expansions, but had exclusive content like FMV briefings and the soylent green mode)
So it's perfectly possible to make a game that doesn't have consilites, play well enough, and sell, but for some reason developers just assume the worst of console gamers.
Easy, because I just like to relax and chill when I am playing muh videogames.
>inb4: hurr-durr casul
I played playstation red alert one day at a friend's home, I liked it a lot but the cunt would't lend it despite the fact he didn't like it before I showed him how to play his game.
Anyway years later after we got a pc for work I saw red alert 2 on a shelf, I came back and bought it the next.
Console red alert introduced me to pc gaming lol.
Oh don't worry. We'll go after the brain bugs first.
Then we'll round up all your precious sneks and boil them alive for a snek snack.
Someone asked me once if I knew the difference between a civilian and a citizen. I know now. A citizen has the courage to make the safety of the human race their personal responsibility.
U kno it really damn good, son.
You disapprove? Well, too bad! We're in this war for the species, boys and girls. It's simple numbers. They have more. And every day I have to make decisions that send people like you to their deaths.
XCOM actually had one of the best controller schemes I've ever seen. It's not as good on a console due to the lack of speedup features, but outside of that my only complaint was that triangle/Y shouldn't have been solely for Overwatch because Hunker Down is often the better option.
Sure, aliens must get defeated, for humanities sake. Anything what stay in our way must killed, or we all die. But if we won and the etherals are gone, we must get back our humanity. If non-etherals surrender, they should not get killed, beside if they made massive war crimes. A single snek who was on guard duty in the slums and talk to people isn't really something dangerous for humanity after war.
All right, let's sum up. This thread we explored the failure of the council. How our Quislings brought our world to the brink of chaos. We talked about XCOM - how they took control and established the stability that has lasted since. You know these facts, but have I taught you anything of value this thread?
Naked force has resolved more conflicts throughout history than any other factor. The contrary opinion, that violence doesn't solve anything, is wishful thinking at its worst. People who forget that always die.
I'm sure some people will throw a temper tantrum over this, but I played (and sorta, kinda, a little bit) The Bureau: XCOM Declassified.
At the end of that game, humanity enslaves the Etherals pawns and use them to rebuild everything they destroyed before letting them go.
Say what you will about that game, it had a few cool ideas. Like capturing an alien and getting to talk to it. I really thought you might get him on your team. I was wrong. But still.
Humans got screwed by superior alien forces lead by etherals. No wonder that they lost.
Xcom must use naked force, because it's the only way to save humanity. But after this, naked force isn't useful because the etherals, the head of the aliens, are dead (i hope). All the alien military falls apart, and will surrender.
People have other problems (build up the world again) than do mass genocide on former brainwased enslaved aliens.
Thats a good idea how humans should act.
Well there are multiple endings depending on who you
choose to possessbut yeah it was cool.
Im still sad we will never see the original game that was announced that was first person where you go into places and investigate and then make new tech from alien stuff you find. That seemed cool.
RIP AND TEAR
Fuck Long War, it was a nice idea, but they fucked it up with every new version
so you're telling me there's a chance...
Its up to you.
I mean, XCOM lost the war. That can be seen plain as day.
If anything, play it because its fun and good
Has anyone ever extracted the base defense intro theme? Can't find it in the soundtracks
^-- Shit quality version with sounds
You don't *have* to, as plot-wise, this game is essentially what happens if you played the first game, and lost before you even got a chance to see a fraction of it.
But, you ideally should anyway, as the gameplay and mechanics are pretty much the same in most respects. It'd be a good way to warm up for the upcoming sequel, and there's bound to be a decent number of throwbacks to Enemy Unknown/Enemy Within.
Not really, if you ever want to play it though I'd do it now. X2 seems like it's going to be a straight up upgrade on every count over EU so I'd imagine it'd be hard to go back after playing an X2 campaign
Best cutscene in the whole game.
>That Music at 0:55
>That camera flight through the whole base
>That feel that shit got real
XCOM: Enemy Unknown was an entirely independent reboot. XCOM 2 isn't a sequel to that, it's just a spinoff in an alternate timeline. Think of it like a separate campaign in the same setting.
You'll be fine to skip XCOM, but of course that game is pretty good and is a more appropriate picture of the military defending the planet from scary aliums. The atmosphere will certainly be different, if nothing else, so if you'd like to play the government instead of the rebels you should play the first one.
If you don't care, feel free to skip. If you think you might play XCOM after XCOM2 just to play more of the same, I'd consider playing it first just because it looks like spectacle creep is going to make the second one a bit more flashy and it will be harder to enjoy the first afterwards.
I fucking hope so, there was a team trying to do that with the original but they had to give up. I was saying it's a straight upgrade over EU though, not original XCOM, there's still plenty of legitimate reasons why you'd want to play that over new Xcom even though I prefer the new take on it.
They don't appear to have any advantages over the last iteration besides walking on high ground or whatever. The cyber discs had a ton of movement unlike sect pods and they never used their melee aoe. Any armor or health increase is balanced by you doing more damage probably.
I'm not talking about canon, I'm attempting to explain how much it really matters that you know what happened in the first game. My point is that they are not very closely related.
ayyyylmao. Got that digital deluxe edition
Still got 20 bucks in my wallet. Not sure what to do with it. Seems like all the stuff I want is 30.
super easy. It triggered too late for me the first time. My squad was OP as fuck and I breezed trough it. Only on a different playtrough did I learn that it was supposed to be hard.
Yeah that was nice too.
After i heard that Xcom 2 will have a base defense again, imaged how it would like to fight in the avenger.
But sldly it turns out that your squad sit on the ramp outside of it.
Me too, but the feel that you fight in your own base and see the stuff like the holo-globe is more interesting than a plain ramp outside the avenger.
I know you troll, but they won't spoiler us all alien before release.
except for that 5 armor, thats some long war bullshit right there but atleast you can remove with the right tools but it would be pretty darn hard if you already have spent all your nades or your grenadier already kicked the bucket
I hope not... the models look so ugly compared to the new graphics. And almost all aliens came back anyway.
First big mod will be a LW-light with more pods and higher squadsize and some balancing around it
What are the odds of there being an expansion where you can play as the Ayys and have to deal with XCOM terrorism in a mode that harkens back to "normal" XCOM gameplay?
I'm excited for the new way to play, don't get me wrong, but I'd love to play the other side of this reversal too.
They are most likely in the game.
Replaced by archons.
>no thin men
Replaced by vipers.
Replaced by gatekeepers.
Replaced by vipers.
Replaced by advent mecs.
Now fuck off.
The real draw to it is the ease of adjustment for the game's settings. You can adjust pretty much every value in the game if you want. The vanilla Long War shit is fucking ridiculous.
unless you're too lazy to read
That's actually a good idea.
>Xcom retake earth from the aliens and advent.
>The people celebrate but then find out that advent (or a new group of aliens opposed to the originals/advent but not an ally of himanity) was experimenting on alien/human/aquatic animal hybrids and hid them at the bottom of the oceans.
>Now Xcom has work to do.
>you will never live in an ayylien nannystate and have coffee with your snek gf
>USG: I’ve just got to say thanks so much for not doing Terror from the Deep again.
>Solomon: It's not going to happen! I’ve made my feelings on that one known! You know, it's funny, because I’ve played that one, and I’m playing it as I’ve played all XCOM games, but that one to me – I feel like because of the water setting... XCOM works because of the Earth setting, and then it’s like "aliens are weird because they’re on Earth, so we should put it in the future." We didn’t want to make it seem too futuristic, because then I think that the player loses any sort of emotional connection to what it is they’re fighting for. Terror from the Deep was pretty weird; you’d be underwater and just like, "I’m not sure where I am, I could be on a space planet right now."
