Would be hilarious if the expansion to Xcom 2 would be terror from the deep.
>>
>>323581595
Not sure it's even possible at this point without major work.

UI and gameplay was built around precision only a mouse can give. They'd have to gut it and kill the difficulty to get it on consoles.

Plebs should just get a PC.
>>
>>323581595

Xcom sold 114k copies on console, why isn't there 114k signatures? Or even 100k or 50k or not even 10k?

There is no demanding market for it.

Is not just the gameplay, the art style is also oriented for PC, is why guns are normal size instead of giant cartoony nerf guns and the characters aren't gorillas like the first one.

Xcom threads are hot this week, thank God.
Three questions :
1. How to fight the Berserkers
2. Are SHIVs any good
3. Should I consider giving one of my Assaults an assault rifle, and if so, is the left or right tree better?
>>
>>323590252
They literally revealed almost all the aliens. There's probably only 1-2 aliens left to be revealed.

It's not your fault anon.
>>
>>323590618

1. Shoot them until they die.
2. Yes, but only if they have at least self-repair
3. The left one is saver, but always choose Rapid Fire. Rifles and Shotgun have their uses.

XCOM 2 is really not going to be any harder than EU/EW unless that is you were so shit at it that you just slowly crept up and overwatch in nearly every situation and don't know how to make actual decisions for yourself. If you're too reliant on soldier promotions than you will also be hurt by xcom 2.
>>
>>323593904
The second wave setting makes ALL flanking shots criticals, and the beauty of shivs is you don't give a shit about cover so its flanking all day. Hover shivs literally rape everything in sight.

Can see trouble against shit like sectopods though, the DPS without crits just can't take it down fast enough.

So in short, buy hover SHIVs and give one of my Assaults a assault rifle, cool? Cool.

Other stupid questions : outside of satellite coverage and abductions, there's no way of reducing panic, right? Arr Engineers are more important that scientists, do I stick armor on literally everyone, why am I always so broke( $573 a month, not counting corpse sales), is Chitin armor worth shit, is the Plasma Rifle and pistol the only one that drops from stunned enemies, Lasers vs plasma?
>>
>>323582449
XCOM : EW has controller support, and it's pretty good, (although i agree that other firaxis titles can NEVER be ported on consoles)
>>
>>323595538
>never played Fire Emblem
>>
>>323596325
heres a hint
the country that gets panic no matter what you do is where the alien base is
>>
>>323596460
I did the alium base already, that worldwide panic reduction saved my ass. I'm guessing there's more than one.
>>
>>323595538
It only lies on normal and below because it uses a PRNG there. On Classic and Impossible it uses a straight RNG.
>>
>>323596450
I played that 3ds one.
>>
>>323596687
oh there's only one ayy base sadly unless you count the last mission
plasma does most damage
you can get heavy plasma guns from mutons
>>
>>323593284
>not playing both
The original X-COM is one of my favorite games of all time and I still really like XCOM, even when it was pre-EW.
>>
>>323596859
Is it better to play on a higher difficulty than Normal then? I'm not great at them anyway and I'm concerned I'll just fuck that up anyway.
>>
>>323593284
>I always preferred TFTD
>>
>>323596325
>buy hover SHIVs
High ranking soldier will usually outperform them. Buy them if you get squad wiped

>Arr Engineers are more important that scientists
Yes.

>do I stick armor on literally everyone
If you can afford it.

>is Chitin armor worth shit
No

>is the Plasma Rifle and pistol the only one that drops from stunned enemies
There's a total of 4 plasma weapon that you can drop.

>Lasers vs plasma
Laser is tier 2, plasma is tier 3 tech.
If you're playing on normal or below you can try to ignore laser tech and rush plasma tech for a big technological advantage. It can also be done on classic with some luck.
>>
>>323596325
Council missions grant panic reduction, shooting down UFOs and raiding them I think grants panic reduction, assaulting the alien base gives one-time GLOBAL panic reduction so it's good to use tactically.
Engineers let you build higher tier facilites and shit earlier, good for rushing to satellite nexuses (2 nexus + 2 relays in a square = global coverage potential).
If you don't put armor on people, they WILL get one-shot.
Until you get good satellite coverage and the All In nation bonus, being broke most of the time is normal.
Mutons will start carrying actual plasma rifles for you to loot later on (and heavy floaters), so try to get some off them instead of making them youself cause they're not cheap. Chitin armor is ok as a placeholder item, mainly when you get the double item slot upgrade from the Foundry. I usually slap a scope on everything because +10 aim is always, always useful.
>>
>>323597324
What are the plasma weapons? I know there's the pistol and rifle, and the ones sectoids use.
Also should I buy the Will upgrade? Seems rather not useful.
>>
>>323597994
will helps you against mind control
>>
>>323597994

Will upgrade is for psionics later. Higher will = more chances to get a psionic. I hate that mechanic, because your soldiers, who served the whole time under your command have low will at the end, and you must train new people who get more will into psionics... god thanks this want be anymore the case in Xcom:2
>>
>>323597994
Light plasma, pistol, rifle and heavy.
There's other plasma weapons but they are not droppable, you must research and buy them.

There are 5 man-portable plasma weapons. Pistol, light plasma rifle (grants +10 aim, good for leveling shitty aim rookies), plasma rifle, heavy plasma (heavies only), plasma sniper (you have to build this one since no aliens carry one, sniper only). There is also an endgame shotgun, the alloy cannon, which is only equippable by the assault, and it does something like 20 damage on a crit.

friendly reminder that civilians can now turn into these fuckers that are like as high as a building

friendly reminder that Gatekeepers automatically revive fallen enemies AND friends as zombies

friendly reminder that Chrysalids no longer make zombies, instead they make a cocon out of their pray, which erupts into 3 other Chrysalids.

friendly reminder that Chrysalids can now burrow into ground and move through concrete

friendly reminder that Sectoids now have mind control right from the start of the game

friendly reminder that Berserkers now can now move two times farther than normal move range

friendly reminder that the Ayys now have Big Daddies, who can literally bust through walls, and spews acid

no adjacency bonus, full character and weapon customization that can be imported into all playthroughs, overwatch shots now fire in order instead of everyone at once, there is no air fighting with interceptors, you are now hidden at the start of the missions and can use stealth to ambush enemies before they see you, the sniper starts with oversight, pistols are majorly buffed and you can literally make Ocelot out of a sniper with the Gunslinger class, you can now hack shit with your support, there are a shitton of new aliens, the maps are randomly generated every time so you'll never play the same map again, Loot system: fallen enemies and allies will yield loot that can be picked up and brought back to base, backpack for loot, limited carrying capacity per soldier, Mission Objectives to complete missions - killing all enemies is optional, entirely destructible environments, floors and ceilings included, there are now Fire, Acid and Explosive barrels, Skyranger extraction zone can be called in anywhere on the map, so long as there is sufficient space to do so, weapons can now be upgraded with various mods and parts looted from enemies and these weapons can be freely moved between soldiers, the weapons confirmed so far are Ballistic, Magnetic, Laser and Plasma, Gender and Nationality can be freely customized, you can now Re-talent soldiers so no more 10 snipers 0 assault situations, veteran soldiers will receive unique customization options. Snek.

There's not that much risk in preordering the sequel since they've released a lot of free-form footage already, which looks solid even if it's from a by now month or two old build.
You know exactly what you're getting, so the only reason you would hold off is worry that it's going to break on day one. Which is pretty unlikely considering they said they were done with the game in september yet pushed it back to february for polish.

you know, I played command and conquer red alert on the playstation. Didn't even have an anologue stick. they just had the cursor be controlled by the d-pad. Not only was it still fun, because red alert is amazing, the game sold well enough to bring a playstation-only expansion, retaliation (which was a combination of 2 pc expansions, but had exclusive content like FMV briefings and the soylent green mode)

So it's perfectly possible to make a game that doesn't have consilites, play well enough, and sell, but for some reason developers just assume the worst of console gamers.

Sure, aliens must get defeated, for humanities sake. Anything what stay in our way must killed, or we all die. But if we won and the etherals are gone, we must get back our humanity. If non-etherals surrender, they should not get killed, beside if they made massive war crimes. A single snek who was on guard duty in the slums and talk to people isn't really something dangerous for humanity after war.

We talked about XCOM - how they took control and established the stability that has lasted since. You know these facts, but have I taught you anything of value this thread?

Naked force has resolved more conflicts throughout history than any other factor. The contrary opinion, that violence doesn't solve anything, is wishful thinking at its worst. People who forget that always die.

I'm sure some people will throw a temper tantrum over this, but I played (and sorta, kinda, a little bit) The Bureau: XCOM Declassified.
At the end of that game, humanity enslaves the Etherals pawns and use them to rebuild everything they destroyed before letting them go.
Say what you will about that game, it had a few cool ideas. Like capturing an alien and getting to talk to it. I really thought you might get him on your team. I was wrong. But still.
>>
>>323617231
Humans got screwed by superior alien forces lead by etherals. No wonder that they lost.
Xcom must use naked force, because it's the only way to save humanity. But after this, naked force isn't useful because the etherals, the head of the aliens, are dead (i hope). All the alien military falls apart, and will surrender.
People have other problems (build up the world again) than do mass genocide on former brainwased enslaved aliens.

Thats a good idea how humans should act.

Well there are multiple endings depending on who you choose to possess but yeah it was cool.

Im still sad we will never see the original game that was announced that was first person where you go into places and investigate and then make new tech from alien stuff you find. That seemed cool.

You don't *have* to, as plot-wise, this game is essentially what happens if you played the first game, and lost before you even got a chance to see a fraction of it.

But, you ideally should anyway, as the gameplay and mechanics are pretty much the same in most respects. It'd be a good way to warm up for the upcoming sequel, and there's bound to be a decent number of throwbacks to Enemy Unknown/Enemy Within.
>>
>>323621092
Use SHIVs. They're ridiculously overpowered in the early and midgame to the point where they make up for the XP loss.
>>
>>323620803
Technically the first game is not canon as far as we can tell.

But you should still try it out, its definitely a good time.
>>
>>323620803

Not really, if you ever want to play it though I'd do it now. X2 seems like it's going to be a straight up upgrade on every count over EU so I'd imagine it'd be hard to go back after playing an X2 campaign

>>
>>323620803
XCOM: Enemy Unknown was an entirely independent reboot. XCOM 2 isn't a sequel to that, it's just a spinoff in an alternate timeline. Think of it like a separate campaign in the same setting.

You'll be fine to skip XCOM, but of course that game is pretty good and is a more appropriate picture of the military defending the planet from scary aliums. The atmosphere will certainly be different, if nothing else, so if you'd like to play the government instead of the rebels you should play the first one.

If you don't care, feel free to skip. If you think you might play XCOM after XCOM2 just to play more of the same, I'd consider playing it first just because it looks like spectacle creep is going to make the second one a bit more flashy and it will be harder to enjoy the first afterwards.
>>
>>323606179
yo
>>
>>323621714

I fucking hope so, there was a team trying to do that with the original but they had to give up. I was saying it's a straight upgrade over EU though, not original XCOM, there's still plenty of legitimate reasons why you'd want to play that over new Xcom even though I prefer the new take on it.
>>
>>323622092
XCOM 2 isn't a spin off to EU. Winning is not canon
The developer said that XCOM fucking lost like 1/3 though the game.

They don't appear to have any advantages over the last iteration besides walking on high ground or whatever. The cyber discs had a ton of movement unlike sect pods and they never used their melee aoe. Any armor or health increase is balanced by you doing more damage probably.
>>
>>323622263

You know, it's funny, because I’ve played that one, and I’m playing it as I’ve played all XCOM games, but that one to me – I feel like because of the water setting... XCOM works because of the Earth setting, and then it’s like "aliens are weird because they’re on Earth, so we should put it in the future." We didn’t want to make it seem too futuristic, because then I think that the player loses any sort of emotional connection to what it is they’re fighting for. Terror from the Deep was pretty weird; you’d be underwater and just like, "I’m not sure where I am, I could be on a space planet right now."

There would be no harm in the game coming to consoles. It's a turn based game, it requires no precision and you can take as much time as you want.

No, the game generates a seed that changes along a predetermined pattern for every action taken. It doesn't necessarily mean that if an action fails and you reload and do something else, that THAT action will fail. The math is more complicated. What it means if that if you take a shot and reload and take the shot again, the seeded value plugged into whatever fucked up math based on god knows what remains the same, and you'll miss again.

But if you do the things that led up to it in a slightly different order then it's back up to 'chance', as much as anything is actually about chance.

Here's how to make Long War reasonable in about 10 minutes of notepad+ time:

The essentials:
>half interceptor repair and rearm times
>reduce innate defense of heavy floaters and other high hp / high defense mech units 1/3 or 1/2 usually does it
>remove evasion perks from heavy floaters (tac sense and damn good ground)

Questionable but somewhat reasonable changes:
>boost starting scientists and engineers
>reduce psi training time

Half of Long War's balance issues stem from heavy floaters, and other mech units. By reducing the defense bonuses they get for simply existing, you get a much less frustrating enemy. Their damage, mobility, and health are still fuckhuge, so they won't be pushovers.

Halving repair times for interceptors allows you to keep your air force in the game more often while still keeping UFOs strong and punishing retarded risk taking. The extra long rearm is straight out of the retard universe, so you could cut that down into hours if you wanted.

Boosting the initial amount of scientists and engineers helps you get a jump on lasers or whatever else you want. Helps you jump out of the early game slump while having a negligible impact on the long term research game.

Psi training takes forever and is at the mercy of random chance. A lot of people frown upon reducing training times, but as long as you keep it within reason it's acceptable.

For in game tips, remember:
>always have chem grenades
>always have smoke grenades
>always have flashbang grenades

Support grenadiers and item-focused support troops are critical throughout the campaign. If you don't have a good stream of dense smoke and acid to use against mech units, you're doing it wrong and deserve to die horribly.

That's not to say the game will be perfectly balanced at that point, but you have a good platform to prune perks and stats you deem offensive as you go on in game.
>>
Didn't the last Long War version include a less difficult .ini file to use anyway?
