so i have the browserhax thing installed. I can boot into the homebrew menu by holding down L on start up.
now im trying to do the downgrade
i have the 9.2 update and the files for the sysUpdater in their respected files on the SD card.

now everytime i try running the updater icon in the homebrew browser, it just goes to a black screen.

is this normal? it took me a few tries to get the browser to install but I guess that whole freezing thing until it goes was a normal thing.

How the fuck do I know if I'm on sysnand or emunand?

I don't know if rtxtol is working, I used it on the launch thing, it installed and then it went to home menu, any further attempts to use it goes to 3DS home menu.

I was following this guide http://pastebin.com/6BBug6nD and completely skipped over the FBI injection stuff till I got to installing BBM. I went back and successfully installed FBI and was able to get it to BBM to work. Downloaded Paper Jam and was able to play it.
Everything seems to be working, but is installing FBI after separating my nands and updating my emunand to 10.3 going to bite me on the ass later on?

I had gotten my emuNAND all set up and shit, unlinked with sysNAND and such. I update the emuNAND to 10.3. Woohoo, it worked. Remove SD card to install BigBlueMenu. Try booting while holding L. Nothing happens, goes to sysNAND. Try again. Nope. Check settings.

For whatever reason it doesn't work very well, I think the specific SD card is formatted to work with the specific DS or something, because i tried that very think today and it didn't work. I had to go through the whole process again with a new card.

Side note, in case you decide to go for a 64gb instead of 32gb, you would have to format it to FAT32. That happened to me and it took me three hours to figure out.

It will work, kinda, but there are extra steps. If you want to avoid extra steps, downgrade to 9.2 but don't set up EmuNand until you get the new card. Then you can just copy and paste everything to the new cars and proceed with EmuNand setup.

If you wanna be totally safe and 100% finish hacking with a transfer later, you're going to need the EmuNand tool to backup your EmuNand and inject it into your new SD card along with your files.

It isn't hard, but it is a couple of extra steps. So long as you're properly saving your backup, at worst you just fuck up the first time and have restore points to try again with.

You're definitely using the wrong boot file if it brings up homebrew launcher when you hold L. Holding L literally reads for that boot file and launches it. If the file is Rxtools, it will launch that. It won't magically load Homebrew launcher if the boot file isn't homebrew launcher. That's like copening Firefox.exe and [email protected] opens up instead.

Somewhere along the lines you probably mixed your copypasta up. Restart with clean freshly downloaded files to copy and paste with.

You need to install homebrew before even downgrading. If you want to hold off on setting up the hack completely until you get your new card but make sure your 3DS is in the safe firmware zone from Nintendo's hands, follow that guide but don't proceed to step C. If you want to be 200% safe that you complete the hack before the patch tomorrow, then do the whole guide but back everything up.

Keep in mind that creating an EmuNand will shrink your card's filesize caus it's making a new partition on it. Some people fuck their selves over by having almost full SD cards and are unable to drop all their files back onto it when they set their EmuNand up. It's a fixable issue, but a little bit of a pain.

so now that i have everything done and installed, i've got rxtools booting through menuhax taking me to emunand on boot, which is great, everything is peachy with that, can i upgrade my sysnand because its unlinked? would that fuck anything up? can i do the same for emunand? is that all kosher? i guess the only thing i dont know how to handle at this point is updating things or not

Your Rxtools settings are probably fucked somewhere. I would advise copying and pasting the files over from scratch. Make sure your firmware.bin is in the right folder.

Make sure your unlinked. Just having Rxtools booting into EmuNand doesn't mean you're unlinked. Create a folder in EmuNand and see if it transfers over to sysnand. If it doesn't, you're good to update EmuNand.

Am I doing something wrong? Following the retard guide, and whenever I go to yls8, I get yellow, then grey and freezing. Then goes quickly to white, green, blue w/ a black screen and writing on the top one, and then red bottom/black top and nothing happens.

Updating sysnand will ruin your shit. The whole point of EmuNand is so that you don't have to touch your sysnand, which will ruin your shit up the ass. EmuNand is the only thing you want to touch. Once it's properly set up, avoid sysnand like the fucking plague.

Yes, but you may get an error. If you get an error, there's a guide for fixing it. I forgot the exact steps, but I think it has to do with backing up your EmuNand, formatting it, and then injecting your backup.

It took me like 12 times before it worked for me the 2nd and third time i had to reinstall it. Pain in the ass, but keep trying. Clear all browser settings and restart 3ds before trying again.

So coldbooting is actually just a shorthand for having menuhax autoload rxTools (Or another means of booting into emuNAND)?

So if I have set up ctrBootloader and have it autoboot rxTools unles instructed to do something else, I'm practically there? I always thought setting up coldbooting is something more "bulletproof"

That's what worked for me. I converted Bravely Default EUR from 3ds to cia with it.

You just need to copy a file to your 3ds and generate some keys, which you copy back to your machine. Then it should work just fine

My download of RXTools goes rxTools-83afbb6\release\ then four other folders, mset, ninjhax, rxTools and tools. Am I just taking the rxTools folder from the downloaded release folder or should I rename the release folder to rxTools and put that in? I wish these guides were more clear about the stuff these downloads contained.

So I've got emunand all installed but menuhax broke. I keep getting the red screen of death whenever I try to enter the homebrew channel from the launcher that lets me go into rxtools.

What am I doing wrong here? Do I need to revert the 3dsboot file to the old one to get into the homebrew channel or?

This is literally the last step I need to get done so that I can hop into homebrew quickly w/o the exploit. Hopefully someone else has had the issue and can help a bro out.

To unlink you format your 3DS
So that means losing access to all existing content on either your sysnand or emunand. Decide which.
If you want to format sysnand, either format it the normal way in system settings with the SD card out.
If you want to format emunand, install a CIA of tinyformat and run it on emunand

You can't really brick anything by doing this. Worst case scenario is that you brick emunand, lose saves and have to start a new emunand from scratch.
