Did you know decapitation was planned to be in MH, and you'd be able to hang the lopped-off heads over a mantle? That's why all the monsters from the first MH have such recognizable faces/side profiles.
It was removed late in development because it was way too fucking hardcore for japs.

Long, Normal, and Wide are three different playstyles. Look up what you wanna be doing with them, all I know off the top of my head is that Normal wants to get the big slam explosion in whenever possible and the other two use more normal shells.

Prioritize getting a set with Artillery God over everything else.

My personal recommendation is the Heavy Bowgun, it pretty much plays like Greatsword in gun form.

There's a Normal/Spread/Long Gunlance types which will have you play a little differently to really make use of the shelling power.

Also you won't be very mobile and if you play with others don't shell them by accident.

I've just been fucking around with GS and collecting them while I wait until I get to a point in G Rank where I can make a significantly better Lance set than my old one, that all the Lances I was using were getting kinda lackluster in comparison to what I was fighting. And some late HR stuff like Teostra is just a fucking bitch to try and Lance against.

The Cera Cymmetry is typically considered the best overall GS in the game if you're just shooting for raw, and I think you only need to be G2 to get it.

Why are all the G rank hunts at either the volcanic hollow, dunes, or heaven's mount? Fucking hell why aren't there any G rank quests in general? Where are the epic hunts? Where are the double monster arena quests? Jesus fuck, 3U kicks the shit out of this game as far as content goes.

You have a game with more monsters, but half the fucking quests that's justified by a leveling quest system that doesn't even support every monster.

I dunno about gameplay but remember that elemental damage and status effects are a lot more effective with fast weapons in general. Blast is generally good for helping knock monsters down and break parts too.
