Can someone tell me why the west went full on revisionist mode and started hating on any Japanese game that wasn't hardcore souls/MGSV and calling everything that falls in-between 'weeb shit'?

What happened during the 90's to today and made so many people stop enjoying certain vidiya? I am honestly confused.
