Which GBA final fantasy is the best? I'm looking to start one but I'm not sure which one to play.
correct answer coming through
only for gba
ff6>4>1&2(its on one game)>5
6 is objectively the best ff game and the last of the 8 bit era, before 7 introduced 3d models which would later lead to real time combat.
4 is similar to 6 in design and character variation. 4 starts out pretty boring and annoying, 6 has better story imho.
1&2 are classics, you might not like either because class variation is limited and the story is a basic generic fantasy story. 2 has a god fucking tier map and world though(compared to other ff maps)
5 is meme tier job system shit.
The ff6 gba port is trash - the music sucks and there's a lot of slowdown. Ff4's port is pretty bad because it's got some weird bugs (double turns, unresponsive l/r in status menu, sluggish menus). Ff5's port is very good, and the music is actually better than the original SNES version's music. Ff1&2 are good ports too.
The one you just linked. FFIV is good but the GBA port sucks - it has a severe bug with its ATB that makes it a total joke. FFVI isn't a good game regardless, but the GBA port far inferior looking and sounding compared to the SNES game on the GBA and the extra content is shit. FFI+II is a wash because FF Origins is a better port, but the extra content is actually fun. FFV is the only one where the GBA port is the definitive version of the game - its sound is only slightly worse and is better on certain songs, it looks about the same, and it has a far better translation than any of the other versions of the game.
>6 is objectively the best ff game
Fuck you. FF6 is where everything went to shit because Square stopped caring. It's an incredibly buggy, poorly balanced game that doesn't even have a fourth of the challenge that the previous games did so it never engages the player.
>4 move quickly
i agree, and i fuckign hate cecil and wish it was from green haird lolis perspective instead but gameplay and fights are nice.
>6 has the blandest fucking characters
while i understand some of the characters are inherently bland (abominable snowman, dark assassin dude, mr.mime), the main characters specifically terra are decent or fine in that department. its nothing award worthy but i wouldnt say its bland. one could argue that kefka is bland, b.c he has no motive or backstory as to a reason he does what he does, but tahts b.c he does it for choas like joker from batman.
i dont wanna be that guy that bases everything on popularity but for OP and his consideration i will post these polls/
it is often the case taht 6, is ranked either on par with, or above 7 and 7 is filled with fanboy autists.
the real question is how come 6 never got a 3D remake? i get them not remaking 5 because 3 already was big on the job system and then came Four Heroes of Light and then came Bravely Default, but 6 deserves a 3D remake
unless op is japanese or influenced heavily by the things japanese people like or find interest in, it wont matter. there are several examples especially in video games that show japanese liking one thing, then the west liking another thing or even the opposite. taht doesnt make west wrong and japs right or vice versa. odds are op is american or western and thus will enjoy what his fellow westerners also enjoy.
FF6 is one of the more popular FFs in the west because very little of its competition came out there, not to mention that the west only got FF1 and a severely gimped version of FF4.
I'm pretty sure someone who doesn't understand how timing and a different set of circumstances could affect how a game is perceived is the one being irrational. Fuck off, retard.
For someone who never played FF series which should I start with?
I just got a GBA emulator for my 3DS so looking to start somewhere
Every GBA Final Fantasy is bad.
Play 1 and 2 on the PS1.
Play 3 and 4 on the PSP
Honestly there is no good way to play 5 and 6. The SNES versions have terrible translations (the fan-translation for 5 sucks) but are massively superior to the other versions in every other way.
You are right, it's all a matter of simple imprinting. And you aren't a fucking retard in denial, who can't accept that his opinion and taste aren't shared by most people for much obvious reasons.
>No, it's entirely
>who can't accept that his opinion and taste aren't shared by most people
That would be you because you're unwilling to accept that Japan - you know, the country where they got to play all of the FFs before it came out so it was put into the proper context and where JRPGs were far more popular in general? - hates VI.
Sure, this anon >>323471261 didn't already explained you something fucking obvious, you aren't ignoring such simple and objective statement only because you are an irrational fucktard in denial.
Exactly, glad that you got that. You shouldn't project so hard, though. It makes you look even more unreasonable .
I think there's a patch that restores the music to the SNES version for people who dislike the GBA transition. I thought they did quite a good job on the music for V compared to IV and especially VI on the GBA ports
>I think there's a patch that restores the music to the SNES version
I tried that, it doesn't really "sound like" the SNES versions, it just sounds different, and not necessarily an improvement on the GBA music. It also fucks up some of the sound effects.
Exactly, exactly, especially when a couple of idiots in denial desperately try to brush aside some entire countries worth of opinions with the imprinting excuse, only because their taste doesn't line up.
>Only I and Japan can have personal opinions and personal taste!
>PSP version of 4 is garbage. It looks hideous
Go fuck yourself. Compared to the PSP versions of 1&2, 4 does a much better job of keeping the flavor of the original sprites and just generally looking good. And what alternative is there? The SNES and GBA versions look terrible, and the DS version is basically a different game.
>PSP version of 4 is garbage.
What? It looks perfectly fine and sounds great, the character portraits look good as well. The only thing you may have is the difficulty but even the DS version is easy as fuck once you get your final party.
I recently finished the GBA version of FF2 and honestly didn't find it bad
It did have its flaws (ammount of random battles, leveling up magic, magic being weak, escaping requiring a high evasion), but I still kinda enjoyed it
most of the titles for the games were as big as the image so I had to resize them.
Some I brought down to small and was to lazy to redo them so I just dealt with the shittyness
>with the imprinting excuse
'excuse' nothing. VI is popular in the west because it was one of the first JRPGs released there with a ton of mechanical variety AND it was one of the first JRPGs to come out there that had a really involving story. It's not liked in Japan because both of those things were old hat by the time it was released - games like FFV and the Romancing SaGa games trounced VI in the former category while games like DQV blew VI out of the water when it came to story.
not that anon but I prefer the gba look compared to the psp
I dont think it looks like shit but the psp looks too sterile and them recreating the sprites just look offputting to me I prefer the pixelized look they have compared to the remake.
I have the same issue with all the new UI's in the hd remasters theyve been looking odd.
with FFX/X-2s text and everything just doesnt match and they are doing the same thing with the 9 port for pc/ios
Thats understandable. I take back what i said, the sprite matter is a matter of taste.
that said, It has more content, party swapping, and both the snes and ds music + more shit.
It is the superior IV version.
We got it, you have already posted that same exact simplicistic and convenient "explaination". And the more you post that the more you look like an arrogant alienated fool in denial.
Have another element that your alienated brain will desperately try to brush aside: tons of people who think 6 is the best or one of the best have played it after 7,8,9, and have played the rest of the series after finishing 6 and many other games.
4 is the most challenging, has a great story with shyamalamadingdong twists and a GOAT soundtrack
5 has a shit story/underdeveloped characters and a weak soundtrack but it has the best combat system of the 3
6 is overall the best in terms of consistency with story, characters, gameplay and soundtrack, it's pretty much a masterpiece in the JRPG genre
Just graphical updates, mostly. They have all the content of the GBA versions, with way better graphics. IV has the Wii chapter and a special chapter not available anywhere else.
don't think any of them are underdeveloped
you got the adventurer who learns about his parents, the reverse trap pirate looking for her family, lenna's the compassionate female character that wants everything to be daijoubu
would say krile is underdeveloped but she comes late game and her thing is that she's galuf's granddaughter
>really liked the FF1 remake on the GBA
>but in the same cartridge is the remake of FF2
>mfw playing this shit and dropping it every time
Is it even good
It's so boring to me
Some people cant get over the
>hit yourself for more hp and damage
But if you play it normally you shouldnt have to grind or hit yourself at all and its ok, not great, not bad, just ok.
The only FFs one MUST play are VI and VII, and MAYBE XII, but only if you LOVE exploration in games. Tactics (just tactics, not advance) is fucking great too.
FF I was great at the time but right now is a very mediocre (although still enjoyable) JRPG.
The rest are just OK or bad (VIII, X and XIII) and you should waste your time nor your money in them, because the JRPG genre has a LOT of great games which deserve your care more.
Finished it. The random encounter rate in this game is annoying. While the leveling system tries to be unique it does a quite poor job. The characters have no depth though 1 also hadn't interesting characters. The story was shit. No crystals were implemented which was always a significant thing to the series. The dungeons were all too generic which might also be why you dropped this game.
Anon, don't bother with this game.
>masterpiece in the JRPG genre
Typical FF6 fans.
The discussion was FF2 not having them, which didn't matter when it came out. It didn't have freeform party creation either, that's not one of the complaints. It's way more story driven, and has established characters. At that point in time, that was going against the essence of the series.
I actually prefer IV, but I can admit VI is technically the superior game.
It's not a shit. Replacing the music in the GBA version won't fix the ugly graphics or the retarded font. The GBA version is just shit it's that simple. Just because you're an underage kiddo who played it for the first time on GBA doesn't change the fact that it's a shit version.
And yes the PC version is far superior, including the beautiful sprites. I regret to inform you that the loud minority of people whining about it constantly does not change my opinion that it looks nice.
That guy was referencing a conversation he was in, where someone said it was technically tighter than IV. You can't handwave that away with "But the story!" They aren't even that good in VI.
