This game is pretty damn fun. Why the fuck was it never localized?
Hell it even came out in 2012 which was still during the nogames period of the 3DS I think. Shit probably would've sold too.
“[E.X. Troopers] was not planned for Western release. You can tell this because all of the text is ‘hard coded’ as actual art. The text isn’t just standard ‘text’ that could be swapped relatively easily…
…To localize a release, one would have to redo a ton of art in the game, not just do the localization and loc QA.”
I'm pretty sure this was also Inafune's idea to "split" the Lost Planet games from itself into "Turok with a hook" and "Monster Hunter with Guns". Or at the very least it was a result of him degrading the advancements of Lost Planet 2 as wrong for the franchise.
This is the same claim they made that prevented them from patching Dead Rising's text. And it's bullshit here too. It's an animated game that has animated effects that were done with an animation tool and not Microsoft Word.
That shit happens all the time, with FMV cutscenes that have to be changed to reflect new titles of games. They have the means to do it here.
>mfw Bell's side-quest
It was glorious. Also, this game has a kickass soudntrack.
There should be. Though if I recall correctly all the side-quests are pretty straight forward. Talk to the character a few times and do a special mission together.
The 3DS could really use ad-hoc. I don't usually play online one way or another but I can think of a few games that could really benefit from it.
>bank of png files
>it's too hard to get some unpaid interns to erase moonrunes and slap on english text in a comic sans font
>they don't even need to let gaijin touch the original assets, just have honda and suzuki do it then deny them course credit
So Capcom was able to get their staff to redo speech bubbles in sprites for Ace Attorney on top of making a bank of english letter tiles but photoshop is too hard.
Game was a blast. Monster Hunter with guns and jetpacks. Robot action. Cute girls.
Mecha design was top notch.
It has Rathalos armor as a cameo appearance.
It's really more similar to Lost Planet though in terms of gameplay. You kill giant enemies to get orange goo, which is used as a currency, to power your suit, and so on.
The game has original designs too, I just felt like posting that picture. But yeah, Lost Planet had awesome mecha design.
Gingira is also great.
Bell is love, Bell is life, best space trooper.
Take my unfinished guide, I'm probably never gonna finish it, but for side quests just talk to everyone before the end of a chapter or after every mission, the only side quests your going to want some japanese for are Bell's and Tech Base Teacher's. Bell's requires you to know what the fuck she is talking about, which is 3 hidden items in each of the bases that she wants you to pick up for her, and the teacher's is a quiz mini-game that randomizes the order of the questions.
Oh, right, need to link the guide. It's more of a basic instruction manual but I included all the bonus codes so if you want to unlock all the passworded weapons and costumes and get extra currency from the get go, it's there.
I was actually looking for this guide back when I bought the game in the first place. I stopped at around the start of Chapter 2 (or when I go to the other facility) so I don't know how much I missed.
Hard coded my ass, the only thing that's absolutely hard coded is the manga-style cutscenes between missions, anything else is just image onomotapeia and basic text parser stuff.
I hate how people keep letting them get away with that excuse, but whatever, the game bombed in japan so I can imagine how poorly the game would do being localized anywhere else.
>After the game's 2012 release in Japan, Capcom USA's Senior Vice-President Christian Svensson said the following about localizing the game for the West:
>"[E.X. Troopers] was not planned for Western release. You can tell this because all of the text is 'hard coded' as actual art. The text isn’t just standard 'text' that could be swapped relatively easily ... To localize a release, one would have to redo a ton of art in the game, not just do the localization and loc QA.”
I still play the game on a weekly basis doing deathmatches with whatever is left of the game's active community, if you have the PS3 version I would be more than happy to help you in co-op at some point.
Oh man, another Bell lover. My brother who shares an obscure waifu. Too bad no good fan-art.
Thirding Bells cuteness
Well she has good fan art, just depends on which version of her you are looking for.
That's definately one of my favorites for sure.
Well if anyone has the PS3 version and wants to do multiplayer bullshit shenanigans at any point, just drop me a friend request on PSN, I'll try to find the time to feed my obsession with this game using you as an excuse. Also there's weekly matches on the weekends, but it's usually in the evenings Tokyo time, so that shit is hard to plan around if you aren't on their clock.
Not really, it doesn't even have multiplayer over internet networking like the PS3 version does.
When I beat the game I couldn't find anything decent on Pixiv.
I liked the 3DS version when I played it. There's no reason not to go for it unless you care about online.
It's what you get for waifuing unpopular girls from unpopular games.
I have been wanting to play this game for years and yesterday I went out of my way and against all my principles I tried to set up all the things needed to pirate it on 3DS and I got stuck in semi-brick loop hell when downgrading, I guess I'll never be able to play it.
They released a more complete version of the soundtrack for the third year anniversary, along with several remix tracks, threw it up on iTunes calling it "End Of Conversation"
Makes me wish I had an itunes account.
Oh, also they released a short christmas version of the boss music a few weeks ago.
Seriously, where the hell is this support from capcom internal concerning this game coming from?
It's a shit game that weebs buy because they like the box art.
God damn it's terrible.
Daily reminder that when games do badly in Japan it doesn't tend to inspire companies to localize them.
its not every day you see a portable jap game with firearms on the cover
>god damn it's terrible
Says the man who never boost kicked a mother fucker across the map.
Anyone play the 3ds version?
I always wanted to try it but its a decent fike size on ps3 and i dont have room, is the 3ds version mostly the samr besides a graphics and most likely framerate drop?
Only other thing 3DS version is lacking is the multiplayer. PS3 is the superior version but if absolutely can't get that, then you'll probably be just fine with the 3DS version.
Serves me right, I guess.
Neat, I don't have itunes either but I'll try looking for it.
No framerate drop at all. Graphics aren't as good but I always though the aesthetics of the game look pretty good on the 3DS. I didn't think the higher resolution of the PS3 version was that big of an advantage in this specific case.
Inafune wouldn't support this, inafune is a westaboo, he's been on record saying that LP2 was "too japanese" and that's why it didn't sell as well as he thought it should do.
Seriously, inafune's an ass, he's responsible for Lost Planet in general, but he was also responsible for the terrible ass mindset that capcom went through that was outsourcing to shitty western third parties. I love lost planet but fuck him.
I think my game is bugged or something. I can't get a relationship conversation or something when the game says I'm at the point to. It's the instructor with the mask in that one control room. They won't join me.
I beat the game already and have gotten most of the characters.
I didn't know there was any requirements for recruiting him besides completing the story and his quiz, but make sure you try to get all of the other characters first, I'm not sure if you can even begin recruiting the WIZ AIs until you get everyone else, and he's probably the last one you'll get before them.
Well just go through and talk to everyone again, and double check to see if your missing anyone else besides him and WIZ. It might be your just missing a key item from an NPC/Recruitable, also in case you never noticed it, find the old man in the tech base "basement", the manhole in the entrance area of tech base.
JP itunes, and it's split into two seperate listings, one for the soundtrack and one for the remixes.
Was hoping Bren/Teekee and maybe Chris would have made it into Project X Zone 2, but no such luck.
At this point I would almost settle with a bell costume for poogie in monster hunter.
>Get the PS3 version if you want online. People play on weekends usually.
I'm amazed that after all these years I can still regularly find people for co-op in this game when so many games that are focused on multiplayer are dead
I must never be on at the right times then, I have issues finding co-op most days anymore, and versus matches are pretty much planned out by the small JP community during times I am either at work or asleep, I have really only been able to play with anyone during the weekend versus matches.
Yeah, it's a bit annoying when life interferes with fun stuff. Still, the story mode and sidequests are neat.
The teacher, aka get her name from one of the pics posted above.
My guess is that even in Japan the whole colorful style with 90's tropes (Extroopers is too cheerful for something post-2000) does not resonate with the teen/young adult demographic.
You go full harem/moe, like Idolm@ster or modern grit like SAO or Attack on Titan.
Just my guesses tho.
But EX Troopers isn't full weeb, just really good at cell-shading. Also
>Selling #FE the day after Christmas
>VC franchise has another game coming out soon
Really wish the game had a remastered port though. It was sluggish on the PS3 in certain parts.
It had a bunch of product tie-ins, stuff for clothing and eyewhere brands, along with getting some idol that does some of the songs and concepting out a WIZ design for her they never implemented in the game.
Lost Planet 2 is one of my favorite co-op games, but EX Troopers for the time it came out feels like it came from an alternate dimension where Capcom wasn't being totally shitty and still had their aesthetics from the 90's. It just oozes joy. It's multiplayer "suite" isn't nearly comparable to LP2s, it's very barebones and only includes co-op for 3 people and versus for up to 6 people with Deathmatch or Capture the Post point matches and about 7 or 8 maps.
One of the heads of capcom USA gave that little statment to some press before a month or so later he had left the company. That was a fucking while ago, over two years now I think. Hell, even if they did the dumb shit of just releasing it digitally on PSN as an "Import" copy back when they were allowing publishers to do that shit, I would be all for it at the very least.
He made a statment along the lines of "The only thing that the JP branch will listen to is evidence of people who actually will buy the game if it is localized, so just start giving us petitions of your names if you want it localized", and shortly after that he had left the company. During that time there was just a ton of bickering and miscommunication between Capcom Japan and it's international branches, where several staff in the international branches have gone on to state that the JP branch only picks and chooses what they listen to from them in terms of advice for regions.
why the fuck does my n3ds say that my sd card cannot be detected and that the software can't be displayed? i'm trying to get into emunand and i just moved my sd from my computer to my 3ds and now its doing this shit
Best take that question over to the emulation general in >>/vg/
>emunand = emulation
guy just wants to pirate. Can't blame him with the regionlock on the 3DS.
