This is Halo with a DOOM theme. Why didn't they just make a new IP? There's never going to be a new DOOM game now, not that thats the end of the world.
There are the Possessed, which are even lesser zombies than the laser gun ones seen in the E3 demos. They show up shortly before and during the Chainsaw part of the demo and get blown away easily. I think those are the ones the article is referring to as fodder, since they also call them "shambling." The laser gun zombies move more regularly so I don't think it's referring to them.
>movementspeed looks like Halo
>armor looks like Halo
>grenade throws look like Halo
>melee looks like Halo
It wouldn't be so bad if the level design wasn't so horrifyingly boring. Every area looks exactly the same. It looks procedurally generated.
Why in the world would you use your real name? You aren't buying something with a credit card.
>SP looks good
only thing theyve shown makes it seem like going the painkiller/serious sam route of arena type rooms with waves of spawning enemies and while that is fine it ain't doom
ironically dead simple started that kind of level design
The Imp chainsaw execution did repeat in the Foundry demo but there was a new one shown in the Hell demo. So there are at least two. But yes the executions are likely going to get old, fast. No one can really argue that. It comes with the territory of limited animation pools.
I can agree with that point to an extent and I hope it's true for the new game. Ideally you soon stop focusing on the animation and it becomes secondary as you think "Alright, this one's down, next I move on to..." and move on to the next demon.
>only multiplayer footage
>multiplayer being only a small part of the original's success
>everyone still whining about it
Sometimes I wish multiplayer was never a thing.I'd be more than fine playing games on my own all the time.
>It comes with the territory of limited animation pools.
Funny, Doom 1 and 2 had a chainsaw, and an even more limited animation pool, yet somehow it never bothered me. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that chainsawing an enemy didn't lock you into the fucking animation.
Wow that sure hasn't been said over 10 times in this thread or anything. Great post right there.
>brutal doom reigns supreme
there is always one
>HURR IT LOOKS LIKE HALO
It looks nothing like Halo or Doom. It looks like an ungodly stillborn mix of UT, some F2P Korean shit, and fucking TF2 with those disgusting numbers popping up everywhere. .
I don't disagree with you but it's all a result of how id handled releasing material. They went the usual secretive route with the singleplayer for too long while the Alphas were going on and naturally peoples' focus shifted to multiplayer. It even got to the point of where you have people saying the new Doom "focuses" on MP instead of SP which couldn't be further from the truth.
Some of the damage is slowly being undone with this new GI stuff but it's easier for people to comment on actual gameplay videos than still images and articles so that's still going to get a ton of attention from people who haven't played. With at least one more Alpha and then the Beta still on the way they'd better have more SP footage/images lined up or else it's going to happen all over again.
Doom 1/2's singleplayer's repetitive animations don't bother me either but I can say that with certainty because I've played them. In-game they're fine, I hardly even notice them anymore because I'm focused on getting through enemy X and onto enemy Y. I don't think it's a stretch to say the same could happen with Doom 4's SP but I won't know for sure until I play it. If all I had of Doom 1/2's SP right now was the same two videos of levels then maybe I'd feel differently about their animations.
Probably not. I wish they'd kept the chainsaw the same as Doom 1/2/3's but that's not how they saw it I guess.
What's the confirmed demon roster so far?
Off memory I've seen the following:
Zombie (various odd types I guess)
Barron of Hell
Anything else confirmed like Arch Vile, Spdier Mastermind, Arachnotron, Pain Elemental?
Spectres are in the Hell demo. New article says something about "summoner" so I guess archies are in. There also should be some kind of FINAL BOSS since cybers are used more like in D2 here, according to screenshots.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed for arachnotrons and/or Mastermind.
>level aesthetics in single player shown are just rocks
>enemies vomit goodies on death so there's one less thing to take into account on level design
>multiplayer is halo with numbers whenever you shoot someone
Not even going to bother playing this one. Doom 3 was shit, but at least it wasn't insulting.
I really hope they bring back the Mastermind too. Even if it's only for a one-off boss battle since it's so huge and would probably need a unique arena built specifically for the battle.
Anyone know if the storyline's going to be a continuation of D3's or will it be another reboot. So far it looks promising...minus the execution animations but we're not told if it's a mandatory thing or whether you have to R2 or whatever to make it appear..I'll reserve judgement on it until I find that out.
Yeah, that would make sense. Just replace the super-chaingun with something that will allow fight it without abusing corners and its hitbox size. I just really like the idea of a huge evil brain with cybernetic legs. I'm worried though, since they didn't show any arachnotrons and plasmagun zombies seem to fill their role in combat.
the executions seem kind of mandatory since enemies drop health and ammo when killed your gonna wanna be right on them to grab it
the new article has some stuff about perks that make you move quicker etc after executing yeah perks same deal as TNO i suppose
From what I've seen of the executions, the fact that they lock you into a single position for a duration of time but pay off by dropping loot..I'd imagine it's a more tactical decision based on how many enemies are left in the room and whether you can afford being static for that long..but that's just my impression.
No idea. I liked TNO's rendition of BJ so if they don't end up giving new Doomguy a face then I'll just imagine it looks like that.
Though it's weird they haven't shown a full body shot of new Doomguy yet, at least with the helmet on. I wonder when that'll happen. Maybe they're saving it for the reveal of the game's cover art.
this right here. chainsaw actually really did fucking suck, so much so i actively avoided it in my playthroughs because the fists allow movement, and look at how popular doom is today. it really isn't all that significant, yet i guarantee an option to turn it off will be included. theres no way id would drop the ball on that
yes it does but you can stop attacking anytime fists do glue you to monsters in the same way when it attacks maybe not as obviously because it attacks slower
doom 4 is just press button when enemy starts blinking and watch short 2 second animation
chansaw is good against demons because they can't fight back and not too bad against lost souls
the only useless weapon is the pistol because the chaingun straight up replaces it
