There are the Possessed, which are even lesser zombies than the laser gun ones seen in the E3 demos. They show up shortly before and during the Chainsaw part of the demo and get blown away easily. I think those are the ones the article is referring to as fodder, since they also call them "shambling." The laser gun zombies move more regularly so I don't think it's referring to them.

The Imp chainsaw execution did repeat in the Foundry demo but there was a new one shown in the Hell demo. So there are at least two. But yes the executions are likely going to get old, fast. No one can really argue that. It comes with the territory of limited animation pools.

Funny, Doom 1 and 2 had a chainsaw, and an even more limited animation pool, yet somehow it never bothered me. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that chainsawing an enemy didn't lock you into the fucking animation.

I don't disagree with you but it's all a result of how id handled releasing material. They went the usual secretive route with the singleplayer for too long while the Alphas were going on and naturally peoples' focus shifted to multiplayer. It even got to the point of where you have people saying the new Doom "focuses" on MP instead of SP which couldn't be further from the truth.

Some of the damage is slowly being undone with this new GI stuff but it's easier for people to comment on actual gameplay videos than still images and articles so that's still going to get a ton of attention from people who haven't played. With at least one more Alpha and then the Beta still on the way they'd better have more SP footage/images lined up or else it's going to happen all over again.

Doom 1/2's singleplayer's repetitive animations don't bother me either but I can say that with certainty because I've played them. In-game they're fine, I hardly even notice them anymore because I'm focused on getting through enemy X and onto enemy Y. I don't think it's a stretch to say the same could happen with Doom 4's SP but I won't know for sure until I play it. If all I had of Doom 1/2's SP right now was the same two videos of levels then maybe I'd feel differently about their animations.

Spectres are in the Hell demo. New article says something about "summoner" so I guess archies are in. There also should be some kind of FINAL BOSS since cybers are used more like in D2 here, according to screenshots.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for arachnotrons and/or Mastermind.

From what I've seen of the executions, the fact that they lock you into a single position for a duration of time but pay off by dropping loot..I'd imagine it's a more tactical decision based on how many enemies are left in the room and whether you can afford being static for that long..but that's just my impression.
