I'd like to have a rational discussion regarding Nintendo in 2016. It's the start of the year so it's also the most fun to speculate. As well all know Nintendo had a lackluster year last year, despite having great games like Splatoon, Mario Maker, Triforce Heroes, Chibi Robo Zip-lash and of course Xenoblade Chronicles X and to a lot of people it just felt like a tranitional year.
I firmly believe 2016 is THE year for Nintendo. It is going to be the biggest of quite possibly all time. And I'm not just talking about game releases here -- Hell, STRONGLY believe NX is coming in 2017... I'll get to that later. No. Starting with either a Nintendo direct this month (Crossing my fingers) and or the big Nintendo investors meeting that will take place at the end of this month I believe we'll have a rough draft of what's likely in store for them.
We're talking about Nintendo going mobile, their new account system, fucking a new console, non-video game media and so much more. This is the recreation of Nintendo year. They will be reborn as a different beast. Will they be successful? I don't know. But what we do know is they are ready to change who and what they are.
Nintendo is gearing up for change and I think that's the general theme of this year for all major companies. Change. What did Reggie say last year at E3? He said something about transformation. And that happened in the worst possible way with Iwata's death. But Nintendo will grow from it and become better.
To be continued.
Anyway as I was saying with Nintendo getting ready to transform into a new beast so is Sony with their Morpheus and I have to say as a fan of both I'm quite excited to see where they are taking it.
Nintendo will no longer just be about games and this is the first year in what's likely going to be a permanent endeavor. We're going to see things we would have likely never imagined. We're going to see likely cartoons, webcomics, comics, live action tv shows, and likely movie announcements from Nintendo from now on.
But that's beside the point. This is also going to be an incredible year for games as a Nintendo fan. With amazing titles like Starfox, Paper Jam, Fire Emblem hitting early in the year sets a precident that I am very hopeful this year.
Nintendo is fucking LOADED with releases. And putting the NX on the backburner for a year will mean THAT will be loaded as well.
I'm making a bold statement. There will be 2-3 big releases every month this year from Nintendo either through localization or entirely brand new releases.
Mark my fucking words.
I-I hope this thread doesn't die I'll stop discussing even though I have a lot more to say.
I want to believe Nintendo can redeem themselves, but I just don't know
I mean they should be able to, they had great years with 2013-2014
I honestly feel is just as bad as 2008 and the direction they taken with amiibos, I just don't know anymore
I believe the auto scroll wheel is them trying to attempt to innovate the whole weapon wheel thing. It's pretty much one of the most universally accepted systems of inventory management and if Nintendo builds that directly into their controller thus streamlining the entire process then I gotta say good on them.
I just hope it's not too intrusive but honestly it won;t be. It's to further show that controllers can be innovated in smaller ways that make a huge impact on how you see them. Most people are just happy using the right stick but this will likely be used by every other controller maker as well -- if it hits off and well liked by devs, of course which it likely is going to be.
Cloud computing is interesting... I'm honestly not a big fan of having to rely on the internet to get better visuals but if it's going to lengthen the life of the console then I guess I'll accept it. We've yet to see the xbox one do it satisfyingly but that will change with crackdown probably/ We'll see
it's an interesting concept. I'm all for it it's just I hope they don't half ass it. And with the new Nintendo accounts this year and mobile Nintendo is obviously going cloud. You will be able to upload your savefiles on the cloud.
Pokemon Bank was likely their beta. Their test in the waters and that was recieved very well. So it should be interesting to see how they do it. But let's not expect it to be a free service.
Yeah. I think they are. I've been saying it since Pokemon Bank's inception. If people want Nintendo to evolve with their online service it's to be expected. There's just no way the NX is not going to have a complicated online system. I wonder though...
Nintendo might make playing online free --- but give you massive benefits for paying similar to how PS+ used to be. Make it a service rather than an obligation.
I don't know why I do but I always do. I've been burned but I'm always holding on hope.
>This is also going to be an incredible year for games as a Nintendo fan. With amazing titles like Starfox, Paper Jam, Fire Emblem
I am a "Nintendo fan" and if you are excited for this shit, you have serious problems.
>Paper Jam is good
>Fire Emblem was well recieved in Japan
>Star Fox is a return to basics
>I am a "Nintendo fan"
Why does every sonypony open up with this? It's just so blatant.
Drop the console war/exclusives shit right now. All its going to do is cause shitposting.
Atleast those consoles had alot of big releases
(whether they are good or bad is up to personal opinion), while the only good game coming out in the US during the holidays was Xenoblade X and that was it.
>because the ps4 and xbone get multiplats at least
>Atleast those consoles had alot of big releases
Enjoying playing sales faggot
But going back to OP, I respect your enthusiasm, I'm most excited for FE:F and star fucks, also FE x gets a lot of hate but I've made the decision to check it out anyways if the reviewers I watch talk good about it
How so? Are you implying that only exclusives can be "hardcore" games for us serious gamers? I've got a PC, ps4 3ds vita and ps3. I'll play games on whatever platform I want. WiiU hasn't given me a real reason to own it yet.
>sonyponies have no games
>There will be 2-3 big releases every month this year from Nintendo either through localization or entirely brand new releases.
How do you know? Is there a list of release dates somewhere? #FE doesn't even have a release date in the west and FE: Fates doesn't have a release day on Europe either (although I suspect it'll release in April, like Awakening alongside StarFox).
I am still a strong believer that they will release the NX the year, 2015 definitely felt like they were pushing all their B-Teams to work on something to not piss off consumers, while the A-Teams were working on the actual games that we didn't get and most of 2016 so far is either games that were already released in Japan or stuff we've known for quiet a while.
You need to understand that casuals are buying these consoles because they know they are going to be able to play whatever all their friends are playing. And 95% of that shit is multiplats.
And besides, I love the Wii U holiday releases
>Mario Tennis : With Even Less Shit
>Happy Home Buy our fucking cards
>Amiibo Party Buy our fucking amiibo and cards
>I love the Wii U holiday releases
I know, it had the GOTY
>2016 is THE year for Nintendo.
Not wanting to sound like a hater, but they don't even have a lineup. Even I'm tempted to buy a ps4 after looking at it's 2016 lineup, and I've been spouting no games since 2007.
In smash? Why when I've got smash on the 3ds and already lost interest before the dlc that Nintendo doesn't do started flooding in?
>games I don't like aren't reasons for you to own a system
Ok. I'll sell it back then.
Thank you console war shitposter-kun for giving my thread some much needed traction.
The way I see it is taking the NSMB format and making it into something memorable. Now, I can be burned and I likely will but I actually like that they are going for that setting, Sticker Star failed miserably in creating a memorable experience using pre-existing material but from what I've seen in Paper Jam is that it's going the RIGHT direction.
>any game not made by Nintendo is automatically shit
I know you're trying to make yourself feel better about the Wii U not having third parties, but it's pretty closed minded to ignore every other game out there.
>did you enjoy xiii
XIII wasn't produced by the same team doing XV. So what's your point? I enjoyed the shit out of the kingdom hearts series and the incomplete demo for XV kept me entertained no less than 12 hours so I'd say I'm going to love XV.
>I'm a "Nintendo fan"
>I only care about their AAA releases
>I shit on these AAA releases anyway b/c they're "not as good as previous releases"
>I also criticize them for "relying on" and "rehashing" their AAA series
>any game not made by Nintendo is automatically shit
Nobody said this.
I understand you desperately want to defend a company who has not made any decent games in the past 5 years but grow thicker skin please.
>Anyway as I was saying with Nintendo getting ready to transform into a new beast
I dunno, there were 19 years from the N64 release, and I don't know if there was ever a reason of buying a Nintendo home console unless it wasn't Wii if you don't like Nintendo games. And even Wii is a thing of the past, motion controls remained with the Wii.
Will things change in 20 years after the N64 release?
I'm not going to overhype anything, and im not going to buy something because 'muh iwata's last legacy' IF IT IS MEANINGFUL THEN YES I WILL CONSIDER IT. as far as games go, lets see how things roll out. this should have been an expectations post, not a shill post.
Well, they're already going to take a lot of my money based on what they have planned so far.
>All three campaigns of FE Fates
>Twilight Princess HD
>The inevitable Pokemon Z
That's several times better than 2015 for me where all I bought were the second Mario Kart DLC pack, Lucas/Ryu/Roy DLC, and Xenoblade Chronicles X.
Nintendo's confirmed lineup for 2016
Star Fox has been repeatedly delayed, Pokken didn't do too hot in Japan, TP's HD remake is visually disappointing at best, and KOWASHITAI flat out flopped in it's core market.
We know little about Nintendo's approach to mobile.
NX is a total shot in the dark. If its not a breakthrough hit, I wouldn't be surprised to see them shift exclusively to handhelds/mobile.
Pretty much this
Who's gonna be the target demographic this time?
Wii U barely sold better than the Dreamcast even with their first party games
Casuals already moved to smartphones
PS4 is O B L I T E R A T I N G the competition
NX is pretty much fucked.
SMTXFE will be digital only, mark my words.
It's gonna be interesting how well Pokken do in Wii U, fighting games are almost non existent in that console. I think it will sell only because of brand.
The bad part about that is if they don't go mobile software only "they won't", they're just going to be crushed by the fact that even children have smart phones now capable of running fairly visual mobile games. There is a reason the 3ds underperformed the DS so much. And that was like 4 years ago. Try again in 2017 and nobody will see the point. At least not the casuals that make up the majority of handheld sales.
Yes I do think there's going to be 2-3 major releases every month this year but not in a grand way it may seem. I shouldn't have used the word major.
With localzations, random new games suddenly popping up and hopefully this dreadful holiday showing Nintendo they NEED to be consistent all year and not just cram a bunch of retarded shit during the holiday season I think this is going to be the steadiest year in a long time and that goes for pretty much every country.
That's just Wii U. 3DS exists, too, you know?
>Mario and Sonic at the 2016 Olympic Games (I know but Rosalina feet)
>Hyrule Warriors Legends
>Fire Emblem Fates
>Mario and Luigi Paper Jam
>Final Fantasy Explorers
>Rerelease of Pokemon Red/Blue Yellow (Huge deal)
and that's just the first two months. It's JAM packed with quality (besides Mario and Sonic) Content and there's likely more I don't know or remember
This is going to be a great year. Just pay attention.
>>Mario and Sonic at the 2016 Olympic Games (I know but Rosalina feet)
>>Hyrule Warriors Legends
Shitty port of a Wii U game
>>Fire Emblem Fates
>>Mario and Luigi Paper Jam
>>Final Fantasy Explorers
>>Rerelease of Pokemon Red/Blue Yellow (Huge deal)
Roms are huge deal now?
You are a stupid toddler
If theres one thing, ONE FUCKING THING, for Nintendo to learn, its that you need to have faith in new IPS for them to take off. The reason Splatoon was so successful was because it had a massive amount of press behind its release to back up its good gameplay.
The reason stuff like Codename Steam, Wonderful 101, and Yokai Watch failed wasnt because of bad gameplay, it was because Nintendo put literally no press behind them. If your going to make a new IP you have to push it, dont just leave it dead in the water and expect people to buy it.
heavy marketting is the way to get into the children's minds
>Shitty port of a Wii U game
Adding a ton of content in an already content filled game seamlessly is pretty impressive. Not that I am getting it, though, but it's good for those who don't have a Wii U.
>Roms are a huge deal now?
Yes. Earthbound Beginnings was a huge deal and so is this.
Pretty much applies here. I added Mario and Sonic as a joke especially since it's the shitty 3DS one that no one wants and limits characters to certain events.
>>>Hyrule Warriors Legends
>Shitty port of a Wii U game
How about predicting something useful, Nostradamus? Like the next stock market bubble or something?
But why. There are literally thousands of competing smart phones on the market already. Get out of hardware, dedicate resources to software development, create a Nintendo platform app for Android and iOS that allows for both classic emulation shit and new releases for mobile. Infinite money on brand name alone.
I think they have a much better shot at getting the Wii audience back with a cheap enough system focusing on pick-up-and-play, social elements, but physical and internet, and a simple controller then they ever have of getting the modern core created by the PSX and XboX.
but no smart phones with decent hardware level controls (controllers). Sure you can buy some adapters or bluetooth controllers or even wired controllers, but thats all post purchase.
A game system that has phone capability would be MUCH better suited for kids then a phone with game system capabilities. Just from a peace of mind aspect for parents, its would be rather nice. Hell, you could even make a cartridge that you fit a simm card into that you plug into the system to give it full cell phone capabilities.
Just, from a parents stand point I personally feel it would be a nice selling point.
I cracked the screen on my wii u pad today because i raged in league of shit
i wish i could stop playing that trash
Not him but I believe it. Fire Emblem Awakening was going to be the final fire emblem game cause of poor sales but it sold so god darn well and so did fates that it's now super secure.
>comparing kowashita's shit sales to one of the worst selling fire emblems and a director's cut version of Nocturne
I don't know if this is just desperation or flat out retarded. Not to mention Radiant dawn sold closer to 75k, and the original release of Nocturne was around 185k.
>A game system that has phone capability would be MUCH better suited for kids then a phone with game system capabilities. Just from a peace of mind aspect for parents, its would be rather nice.
You wish. Parents rather would want a kid entertaining on its own, and existence/inexistence of physical buttons isn't much a case.
Is the kid entertained? Entertained.
Does it go far from parents' view? No, it sits behind.
Task is complete, nothing more needed.
Probably fucked. 2017 will be good. NX will probably be out by then.
By social elements, I mean interacting with other players, from encouraging couch co-op to things like mii-verse. Part of the Wii's strength was getting multiple people around a single screen and having them work together, or fight Agilent each other. There's a reason so many of the earliest arcade games were competitive, people find games that they can enjoy with friends engaging even if they are otherwise not huge into games.
Honestly if they have completely lost the expanded audience they have only themselves to blame. They dropped making games for that market as the Wii's life want on and then seemed to ignore everything that worked for the Wii when making the Wii U, never mind how horribly confusing that name was.
This right here. Infinite money. The only people that care about muh physical buttons are the ones that are already buying a 3ds and will buy whatever new hardware Nintendo releases.
I just beat Dream Team and I'm excited for Paper Jam. Hopefully they'll clean up TP HD by the time it comes out so I might check that out as well. Gonna give FE Awakening a try and if I like it I'll pick up one of the Fates games later in March.
I half expect Zelda, Pikmin, and Starfox to get delayed again. I dunno about all this "transforming into a new beast" stuff, though. I mean it's good to see them expand but with half the shit they're planning I do I feel like they're gonna fuck it up in one way or another due to outdated attitudes and general "WE'RE ALWEAYS RIGHT AND YOU'RE WRONG" stubbornness.
I don't really see the point of the new "Nintendo Account" stuff unless they address NNID's biggest problem which is that digital purchases are tied to the console itself and not your actual account like XBLA and PSN. I have had plenty of friends and family members who have lost a lot of digital purchases simply because of this problem alone. Eventually we just hit a point where we refused to make digital purchases unless a physical copy of a game was difficult to locate or a game was an eshop exclusive. There's frankly no excuse for it when everybody else has gotten it figured out at this point.
I would like to know more about the NX before I make any sort of prediction or judgement call. If the rumors of being more powerful than PS4 or Xbox one are true, that's great so long as the games take full advantage of the system's power and it's not relegated to shovelware. I don't really mind the the whole "screen on the controller design" since I'm pretty well accustomed to two screens on Nintendo systems since 2004. The whole "2-in-1 handheld and home console hybrid" thing seems interesting but Nintendo's had a histroy of making big promises with console hardware and then not delivering save for maybe one or two exemplary games at the end of the console's lifespan. Continued in next post...
I play both my 3DS and WiiU fairly equally (maybe I lean a little more time into 3DS) so I feel pretty neutral about a hybrid console.
I'm definitely not the target audience for smartphone games but they definitely need to step up the games themselves. I don't see the point of Miitomo at all. It looks nothing more than a "make a Mii and then bug your friends with pokes and IM's teehee ehl oh ehlg excks dee". I'm not saying Nintendo should go full blown retarded and simply port existing games with freemium purchases but there are franchises like Warioware that would be perfect in a smartphone game format yet the Big N wants to stay hush hush like they always do.
The whole "media expansion" thing seems sketchy but I think it could be really awesome if handled well and Nintendo loosens their titanium grip on their IPs while ensuring that they're handled well by third parties. I would welcome shit like Mario or other Nintendo characters being in Wreck-it Ralph 2 or stuff like a Saturday-morning Splatoon cartoon. Movies and TV shows have potential with Nintendo brands, but they need to be executed well.
I feel neutral about the whole theme park thing because I don't really travel that often.
I don't think 2016 will be "le big epic win" year for Nintendo, but they do have new waters to tread and there are a few interesting games coming out. Don't really feel comfortable giving them the benefit of the doubt since they have clearly demonstrated their stubborn attitude with a history of bad business decisions.
If Nintendo really wanted to win my heart, they wouldn't delay Zelda anymore and release the fucking game, announce Animal Crossing on WiiU THAT ISN'T DUMB SPINOFF SHIT, put a Mario Paint-esque game on WiiU that isn't a VC port of SNES Mario Paint, and either cool it with the amiibo or shit or add more interesting features to either the figures themselves or the games.
