I am a member of EVO organizing committee and I am here to leak the soon-to-be revealed line-up for this year's EVO.
Why would they get rid of Melee and put in casual trash like Rising Thunder and MKX
A lot of people play MKX and WB will give them money.
The canons are directly involved with making Rising Thunder ( I think, it might just be Skill)
MKX I can understand, but including Rising thunder is a bit masterbatory.
I hate money too, OP
WHEN WILL THESE MEMES END
If you actually went to any locals/regionals you would find that no one actually cares about whether or not Smash is a fighting game. Everyone just plays the games they like and has a great time.
You can think this all you want, but people will keep playing Memelee and Tr4sh at every supermajor. Maybe instead of arguing with anonymous people on the internet you could try to actually git gud at SF/GG/KoF/Tekken/etc.
It doesn't work like traditional fighting games like SF and VF.
Stop acting so smug with your "lelelelel Smash is about players using characters to fight each other lelelel where proof it's not a fighting game? kek U MAAAAD!!"
Smash is OUT of place in EVO. Use your brain, you can't possibly tell me it looks or plays the same as other common fighting games.
>it's not a traditional fighting game so it's not a fighting game at all
Oh wow. I guess F zero isn't a racing game since they don't have wheels and you can win by killing your opponents
Casual racers like Mario Kart and F-Zero aren't really racing games either.
Since you use items, get boosts and knock opponents off the track, they're cart racers and thus they cater to a completely different audience than proper racing games.
Racing games: You win by reaching the finish line first before your opponents, F-Zero falls into this category.
Fighting games: You win by draining your opponents health bar by attacking them
Smash: Knock them out of the ring once you deal enough damage to your opponent
Not a fighting game.
Your game is OUT of fucking place. Deal with it. You don't give a shit about fighting games or EVO. To you, EVO is just "that big Smash tourney" instead of fighting game tourney, you only want your babby game at EVO for the spotlight. Your community have no fucking respect to others games' community, hence why your kind filled in the venue so much last year some people had to watch a match through their fucking iPhone even though they're attending because you and your friends wouldn't move.
>Racing games: You win by reaching the finish line first before your opponents, F-Zero falls into this category.
You don't have to cross the finish line to win
>Smash: Knock them out of the ring once you deal enough damage to your opponent
Stamina mode. Ring fighters aren't fighters?
Crossing the finish line is still a viable way to win, same with traditional fighters that provide option to ring out your opponent. Smash only has ring out and nothing else, so it's not a fighting game
Oh, so it's not in the main gameplay design.
Not a fighting game confirmed.
>No Melee but MvC3, a game on death's front doorstep, staying around
>Blazblue ever getting the stage again
Too bad RF is likely.
>BBCF and KOFXIV releasing before mid-2016
>no Smash after both games managed to get into top 3 number entrants and earned Wiz all that McRib dosh
>Rising Thunder even remotely being on that list
Didn't put much effort into it, did you?
SFV and SFIV both being there this year are believable though, the Capcom bias is just that strong
>comparing it to Mario Kart
>no ST ever again
I'm so looking forward to super hitstun fighter five.
>implying melee isn't casual
>actualy, implying that melee is a fighting game at all.
>not in time for EVO
>Virtua Fighter 6
Those are the games.
>inb4 vf6 never ever
>inb4 no tekken 7 release date
>inb4 m-muh MKX
>inb4 arksys didn't pay to be in the line-up this year.
Nips still have their own full lobby when they're on, but it's all but dead for netplay in the west.
I don't know the last time a tourney was held for it though, I think it might have been SCR or CEOtaku.
>making things up
Stop grasping at straws. The general consensus of the community is that Smash is not a fighting game, it's out of place in tourneys. It looks and plays nothing like the common fighting games.
Not a fighting game.
>plays nothing like fighting games
Smash 64 has the most in common.
Why does it matter that reducing health isn't a kill condition when combos are still in and movement is extremely important? The conditions for KOs in Smash (by ringout) can make matches more volatile and huge comebacks more possible. If it were on a health system, it would not be as exciting, anyway.
Unfortunately not, but there was an article that said that Atlus was thinking of porting 2.0 to console.
>If it were on a health system, it would not be as exciting, anyway.
Because you're a casual. That's why you play Smash.
>the majority of video game community
You are grasping at straw. You are trying so SO hard to make Smash being accepted as a fighting game when it isn't. It doesn't play like fighting games, therefore it's not one. Deal with it.
Smash gameplay is the sole proof that it is indeed NOT a fighting game.
Wizard here. Here's the actual line-up for this year's EVO.
>Tekken 7 FR
arcade cabs since it won't be getting a home release any time this decade
>King of Fighters XIV
>Guilty Gear Xrd R
>Mortal Kombat X
>You are grasping at straw. You are trying so SO hard to make Smash being accepted as a fighting game when it isn't. It doesn't play like fighting games, therefore it's not one. Deal with it.
Why can't you answer what i'm asking for instead of making up excuses? Is this what the "majority of video game community" does?
This just in: MKX isn't a fighting game because has fatalities and brutalities, making it look nothing like the common fighting game. MKX also doesn't have throw teching. MvC isn't a fighting game because it relies heavily upon very long combos in the air which is unlike common fighting games such as Street Fighter. Also Tekken isn't a fighting game because it has sidestepping instead of jumping, cheap ring out mechanics, and hundreds of special moves for each character, which makes it play nothing like the common fighting games.
Prove me wrong faggits!!!11!!!
>the majority of video game community
The majority of the video game community decided on something but it's not documented anywhere? All i'm seeing is you just voicing your opinion
>casual Smashers value excitement over competitive viability
Wrong. Brawl is incredibly fucking boring to watch yet still had a big competitive scene.
Also using stamina mode in Smash would make it broken as shit, the whole meta revolves around using small moves to get your opponent's percentage up and knowing when to use kill moves, instead of just throwing out the same combo every time you find an opening. How far do we have to pound this into your thick skull? Holy shit you're dense
I feel like they have difficulty in different aspects, MKX's being how stringing together combos is a fucking task, but if you can do it well then it grabs you a good percentage of health and you feel like a fucking pro.
>B-B-B-B-BUH MUH VIEEEEEEEEEWS
Leave it to Smashfags to use view counts as the reason for Smash being a fighting game.
Guess that makes LoL and Dota fighting games since they always have more views than every fighting game.
Holy fucking shit.
Smash DOES NOT play like how fighting games play. It's not a fighting game. Smash not being a fighting game is a general consensus.
Stop living under the fucking rock. Smash gameplay is proof by itself that it's not a fighting game.
>Everyone thinks Jews are cheap and greedy
>HURR WHERE IS THE PROOF THAT JEWS ARE CHEAP DURRRRR
That's how you sound.
It's the public's general conception. Deal with it and move along.
I don't think anyone would argue that Melee isn't a very technical game. The point is just that it's also a very different game, to the point where it could be considered it's own genre. It got it's own community and tournaments, and it's not part of the FGC. The only reason it's at EVO is for the money.
>IT ISN'T SLEEP FIGHTER
who cares? It obviously gets some sort of respect in the FGC, Miek Russ goes on the Scar & Toph show to talk melee, and Infiltration was thinking of picking up melee as well.
Nobody cares about useless pedantics, it has all the aspects of a fighting game (footsies, combos, baiting, reads, techs, etc.) but because it's not an exact replica of Street Fighter it doesn't count? Get over yourself
Smash babby: Whoa guys, those fighting game people use technical terms. Let's use those terms too to make us look smarter and more respectable!
Smash babbies: "TECH! READS! BAIT!, FOOTSIES! COMBOS! Man we totally fighting game now!"
Smash fags only believe their babby game has the same aspects of fighting games because that's what they want to believe.
Burden of proof has always been on Smashfags for actually trying to convince people that their game is a fighting game for fucking years.
It's not part of the genre, it doesn't fucking play like fighting games, the general consensus has always thought of Smash as NOT a fucking game, how fucking ignorant are you? That's how people always see Smash. It's the general conception the same way people think Jews are cheap fucks.
I said this before a hundred fucking times over, but you want proof? Smash and its gameplay itself is the fucking proof.
I think Killer Instinct will stick around. It's modern, it'll be updated shortly before EVO, and it's been pretty good for Microsoft so they're happy to support it in their bid to have a finger in
what they think isthe eSports pie.
Just you watch, this is finally it! Melee will be gone from EVO forever while Skullgirls and UNIEL will finally get the recognition they deserve!!
I'm willing to concede it's not of the traditional sort, but I don't see how the WHOLE genre should be dependent on how much its basic mechanics are based off of SF format. If anything Melee takes more technical skill than something like MK or BB.
>m2k is autistic so that makes the whole playerbase autistic.
I really hate this meme.
>The general consensus has agreed that DMC2 is a shit game
>The general consensus has agreed that niggers are violents
Whoa, guess those are just me making shit up. Because according to you, general consensus has never existed. Maybe you should stop living under the rock and go out more, then maybe you'll understand that there are a lot of things that majority/society has decided upon even without written document.
>some people had to watch a game on an iPhone
Supposedly smash players brought in TVs and set up casual setups all over the floors near where Xrd semifinals were being held, no one could get past them to watch. The problem was made worse because the staff forgot to change one of the projectors to Xrd and all three of them were just displaying smash. It was a big moment that was being missed because the last american players remaining were going up against japan.
someone got the stream on their phone and set it up on a wall to watch instead. There was a crowd of about 50 people watching Zidane's Leo on a tiny phone stream and cheering and stuff, it was actually pretty cool. People kept wandering over and asking what game we were watching
I do think smash players have a fundamental lack of respect for anything that isn't smash, but if the staff wasn't retarded it wouldn't be a problem
>General consensus agreed Bush is a shitty president
>NOOOOOOOOO WHERE IS THE PROOF THAT HE'S A SHITTY PRESIDENT? I WANT A WRITTEN OFFICIAL LEGIT PROOF THAT LITERALLY SAYS "Bush is a shit president" WAAAA WAAAA
MK is still alive somehow.
RT was never alive, people only showed any interest in it because of Skill, and quality aside, everyone realized it had even less of a future then Skullgirls.
RT could be the most technical and amazing fighting game in the last 20 years, but no one will play it because it is a small indie game, and it just kinda boring to look at, it has no real cool gimmicks. Combos are bland, characters are bland, graphics are bland.
Its got that VF problem.
>The general consensus has agreed that niggers are violents
this is some redneck tier racism m8
>Maybe you should stop living under the rock and go out more
whoa, maybe you should read what you write yourself
I've been to EVO since 2011 and I'll tell you what. The Smash community there before sm4sh came out and Evo 2014 was very laid back and docile. They had their little spot like the indie folks and things were chill. Very little major incidents of theft and whatnot. The Smashfags have accepted this until the Esports posers started flooding in and that's the beef the FGC has with Smashkids. Smash caters to the lowest common denominator of people and because it has NINTENDO branding all over it, the posers; the League esports kiddies all flocked to it. I've seen how different the smash people were this year. It's not like the time we had Brawl and they got all buttmad over a kid and items, no. But one thing I can say is that the venue was literally PACKED with posers and "gamers" who had no clue what was going on and was just there because it was "in". Literally smash itself is going through something worse than the 09er boom because unlike 09ers, these pieces of shit won't go away because esports and because it's "in" to be "nerdy".
That said I fear the worse this year with SFV. Also Smash has never been a part of the FGC. We've been drilling this in your fucking heads since Brawl was announced, you fucks.
>Supposedly smash players brought in TVs and set up casual setups all over the floors near where Xrd semifinals were being held, no one could get past them to watch.
Smashfags, not even once.
There are a lot of things that majority/society has decided upon even without written document. That's how society works and you kept denying it.
So, yeah. Stop living under the rock.
At my local college we hosted a Fighting Game night with Sm4sh, Melee, Blazblue and Killer Instinct.
We had four different stations set up for each game, each station had a different TV, three of which were big LCDs and one was a CRT for Melee.
Two of the LCDs were 50" and one was 55". When the Blazblue players showed up and saw that they didn't have the 55" they banded together like fat martyrs and refused to play until they got the 55" because QUOTE "Our game requires us to observe every minute detail of the match and we cannot do so on a TV smaller than [the 55"]"
We decided to give it to them so as not to cause them to erupt into a weeaboo rage and get us banned from doing another FG night.
Next week we replaced BB with
Anarchy Reignsand never looked back.
>Not just giving them the 55'' in the first place
Sounds like you guys were just being jerks 2bh fampai
It's an anime fighter so I guess they're right?
I don't play anime fighters but I do watch them and it seems like you REALLY need to carefully observe and pay attention to even the smallest shit.
Actual member of the EVO organizing commitee here.
>Them's Fightin' Herds
Guilty Gear and Blazblue are at AnimeEVO with all the other weebshit. UMvC3 is a dead game that nobody watches anymore and will be a side event.
>"Our game requires us to observe every minute detail of the match and we cannot do so on a TV smaller than [the 55"]"
>Next week we replaced BB with Anarchy Reigns and never looked back
Good on ya m8
Actually literally the whole fgc hates smash because they don't give a shit about other games and only show up on smelly droves to watch their gay baby game.
If anything smash is less hated on /v/ than in the fgc because a bunch of autists here play it.
Why should we have given them the bigger TV and not Sm4sh or KI? We weren't picking and choosing which game got which TV, we just set up all the games at the same time. I didn't even notice it was a bigger size until the Melee players got there.
The Smash community running over their timeslot and wrecking the entire schedule sure is fun
yep no one at the venue was complaining about them hogging unnecessary amounts of space and monitors to themselves to the detriments of other tournaments during pools
it's definitely just /v/ and /vg/ who dislikes that Smash is at EVO
how is it a "maymay" when the Smash community always kept to themselves before getting into EVO, and continues to keep to themselves during EVO itself?
Nobody put restraining orders on them or anything, they've always seen themselves as a seperate community. It wasn't until the prospect of big money being made did anyone even make a fuss over Smash being at these tournaments.
>It has been confirmed by this unsourceable statement that this game is not what it is because I specifically don't like it and I will shitpost until it is banned from muh events
"real" fighting game players on /v/ are the true autists
So, to translate your analogy would be
>Hi here is a party game I made. I know it may look like a fighting game but since I created it it is a party game
But that doesn't make sense since Smash does NOT look nor does it play like a fighting game.
IM GUNNA END THIS ALL FOR YOU SCRUBS SINCE APPARENTLY YOU ACTUALLY STILL ARGUE ABOUT THIS
At Evo 2015 I made it out of pools in USFIV and got 4th in my pool in Melee (I also got like 8th in my pool or something in GGXrd but we don't talk about that). It's not super amazing but they're decent placings, and sure as hell better than any of you could ever do. Basically I know more about fighting games than every single one of you. Smash is just as much a fighting game as Street Fighter is, if anything Smash takes a good chunk more skill to play at a high level. And since I came from Street Fighter to Smash, I can say that actually Street Fighter tournament players think competitive Smash is cool. None of them hate Smash blindly for no reason. And most Smash players think Street Fighter is cool, since it's actually treated like a competitive game by it's devs. A lot of Smash players and SF players are good friends because they're all going to the same tournaments.
tl;dr everyone loves both Smash and FGC and there's no debate
seconding. I play Xrd but I also enjoy smash. We have a couple smash players that come to our Xrd meetups, Sethlon comes and plays I-No sometimes. Smash drama isn't as common as people on /v/ make it out to be
>Ultra's already deconfirmed nigger
except no a lot of top players are saying to bring it back for one last year and capcom is a big sponsor of course they are going to include there two most important fighters they will probably hype it up and call it something stupid like the end of one generation and the beginning of the next.
I can retort that. At my local scene while many of our Smash players do like fighting games and some fighting game players do play smash, they still force themselves and shit and take up the whole venue. We had a night dedicated entirely to fighting games. Then smash slowly creeped in and turned our weekly tournies into biweekly tournies. Not just that but when we do have our tournament the Smash kids can't learn to respect our own tournament and take up 75% of the venue and push and shove through an already crowded venue. Our TOs literally get close to beating the shit out of certain smash people. But all in all, it's flabbergasting that we no longer have a day where it's all fighting games thanks to Smash kids being all entitled and whiny that they can't go a day without their fucking party game.I'm waiting for the day one of them finally causes a scene with their bullshit.
And I thought this was a fighting game thread.
Capcom isn't letting Ultra be played after all the effort they put at Capcom Cup forcing the commentators to remind the audience that 2015 was the last hurrah for SF4 after every 2 sets.
you really think mr wizard won't want the free money saying he will host the last major usf4 tournament in north america ever? don't be silly it might be the last capcom required tournament but he will include it. Capcom won't force him to do it though.
