When you've played games for 26 years, and know how they work inside and out. When you've played every genre extensively or even played one genre into the ground, you can tell how a game controls, functions, and works just by looking at it. only the younger generations are inept at this because games and modern gamers now are so casual they never look beneath a games surface or whats advertised to them. This is most of the reason why publishers/developers get away with producing GARBAGE now that gets praised as GOTY.

I dont need to play a game to judge it, that's a damage control from marketers and ignorant fanboys.

i judge the games based on developers and corporation that runs the show.

i.e all EA / ubisoft / activison games are basically shit and i will not buy unless their games are *actually* good. Which they usually aren't.

I haven't played Fallout 4 or any Assassin's Creed game past 2, but I'm familiar with the previous games in those series, and I'm familiar with the developers and the fact that they churn out nothing but fucking garbage. It's easy to figure out those games aren't going to be any fun, even if I can't concretely pin down the exact details on why they're terrible.

I doubt if I spent every waking hour playing videogames, and only those made to date, nothing new, for the rest of my life I'd be able to play them all. So you've got to filter them out somehow. There's so much choice it's entirely justifiable to not play something because it's got a shitty name, or an ugly cover or the gameplay trailer has a typo you see in a menu for a tenth of a second.

That doesn't mean you should then spend an hour on the internet telling people that game is shitty though.

Looks RTS/TBS. Not and never has been my cup of tea outside of a couple games, being HOMM3:ROE and FFT.

Art style/direction Looks very generic medieval. Looks to have the usual team/unit/hotbar spamming control mechanics. If this was open world it might be neat in some regard I guess, looks that way from the video. Environment interactions look kinda cool (soaking the flaming ship with rain spell).

I might play it for like 30 mins out of curiousity and forget about it. It would probably be a game I'd catch on steam sale for $5.

Yes, mostly by the people who are excited by playing it. I despise the people who got excited over Xbox exclusives (like Halo) over the years and thus harshly judge the console and games. I might have enjoyed Halo but the people who played it turned me off to buying any Xbox console.

if a game seems staged or gameplay seems shitty it most likely is
also i base my impressions on experience of similar games

If I never played I'll judge the game based on the developer, the looks and the reception.
For eg. I hate Last of Us even tough I never played it, cause I disliked all Uncharted, people seem to like the games mostly for it's story, and because it's a console shooter.
