We usually have pretty good success in getting a group of 8 online for a few hours, never to talk to one another again.
WHO /FOW/ TONIGHT?
Bro, I know these feels. On the bright side, if we get 8 tonight we'll lube you up and ease you into this end game glory.
Embark beach, America district 1. I'm the faggot on the boat.
I'd join, but I haven't touched that game in 5 years. I can't even remember my log in details for it. Let alone how fucked by builds would be since they'd have changed and nerfed shit since
In saying that, what's a ranger barrage build look like nowadays. I think my ranger was the only one I had fully equipped and shit. And maybe the guy with the scythe. Dervish?
i'm sick as fuck so playing videogames right now sounds like a chore but ill stick around in the thread
post you're characters
Dervish has scythe, yeah
Also if you wanna ranger in FoW, best bet is to go R/RT. Then you use splinter weapon + barrage for max damage.
>tfw yak's bend is the most peaceful place ever
It was the biggest disappointment of my adult life, only made worse by the fact that I fell for the hype and spent 150$ on the ultimate collector's edition.
>playing dervish aka ezmodo warrior
Dude it was such a soul crushing experience. I should have seen it coming too, given how much I played the beta. But I wanted to believe.
Did you know that the lead director for guild wars 2 openly admitted to never playing GW1, via twitter?
kill me please, it hurts
I think I went R/E, or R/Mo. Fuck it, I'll reinstall it and hope I still have access to my account
I had one of everything. Except a Mesmer, never got around to making one. And maybe a Necro. I think I might have started one just before I stopped playing.
I used to pick it up once a year and play for a few weeks while I was at uni, so I always made a new guy to run through the campaign again
N-no homo, but if you wanna run through campaign I'll start a new character in a heart beat.
Oh for anyone who cares, there's also a /v/ guild but people are rarely on at the same time.
Probably. I think I ended up not finishing whatever the last character was cause I had to use heroes and henchmen for everything. Made completely most of the bonus parts of missions more difficult
I don't give a fuck about farming FoW, it's just fun to do.
That being said, I'd also love to play through the missions as well. I absolutely love the prophecies story line, the scenery, and the original classes.
God damn I loved that game. I just joined too damn late, and I feel like I missed out because by the time I was getting good enough to do the harder shit in the game, it was starting to get empty. But designing builds, creating your teams of heroes, hunting skills, doing dungeons and shit... god damn. So much fun. So good in so many ways. Solid music, pretty great graphics for its day, fun as fuck gameplay, amazing environment design (seriously, how fucking awesome is the Jade Sea? Walking on a beach with petrified sea spray, or across solidified waves, or down into a temple built in the center of a stone whirlpool).
I haven't been on in ages but I'm going to redownload it now because of this. I don't even care if everywhere is empty, that game is just too much fun and I've had some great times on it.
>large part of the game
Not really though it's interesting if you never did it because Quests and other shit need to be triggered by certain circumstances and it's also interesting to explore for the first time because it's actually hard since you can fuck it up very easily. Other than that? Not much different since people used it to grind for money and skins which they sell for money.
they are up but the games p much dead
however i recommend anybody who didnt play the bonus missions packs to buy it, they were quite fun
>tfw doing world record DoA attempts and always just shyly beating the Euros after weeks of attempts for them to just beat us again a few days later
Definitely the most fun I ever had. I had to have tanked DoA over 600 times.
Enjoy my Lightbringer title, among others
I only really did campaign at the time cause that's what my friends did. Although they dropped the game about a week in when we had made it to the one after the main city. Before the desert part. Then they picked up Factions and never bothered with Prophecies maps again. Three years after that I finally bothered to finish the Prophecies campaign by myself. Fuck having to use heroes
GW was my life back in the day. Just thinking about it brings tears to my eyes. I never loved a game so much. It physically hurts to be nostalgic over it.
post you're face when you bought GW2
post you're face when you bought HoT because you thought it would be different and your a reet
I'm not the type to just leave the client open AFK.
Well it's taking forever to patch a single map. I'll leave it on to download the image, then I guess I'll start a thread whenever that's done and hope someone sees it. Unless there's still a GW general on /vg/
>tfw event minigames are dead with only a small dedicated playerbase that can only get matches for a few hours a day
>the event is only on 3 times a year
It's unded too. and
those are hench tonics at the top.
I've been wanting to get back into it, what class is the most effective and fun to play Solo/AI? I remember seeing my friend play a warrior and solo this one hard looking mission with ease.
Also is it worth it to drop money on the final expansion that wasn't a part of the trilogy? I don't think I've even gotten to play as the expansion classes yet but they look fun too.
Necro is a pretty good solo class. Even though the minion master build got nerfed, it's still decent. Spiteful spirit is also fantastic.
I really enjoyed EoTN, and would recommend it. The dungeons are fun.
Yeah I love the little bastard. Scammed it off some German kid that was trying to sell it for 1250 fucking euros, that was back in 2013.
I wouldn't know how helpful it is in regular pvp, but in DA it's pretty much mandatory to be a good dodger. Fuck I love DA. Here's the video that clip was from if you're interested in seeing more OP dodging
with all of the failures edited out
I swear I've tried Necro so many times and just couldn't get into it, maybe I should try it again. I hear a lot of fun stuff about Mesmer too but it sounded like it was all PVP mostly.
Also the expansion classes don't seem to get mentioned much, are they not that great? Assassins and Dervishes' look pretty neat.
Dude, I love my dervish. Not only do they make great runners (not a big deal anymore, but I can run anyone all over prophecies if we play that campaign), but they shit out AoE melee damage.
Enchantments all day err'day.
I didn't play assassin much, but ritualist is also really fun. Can be played kind of like a MM necro
>AoE Melee damage
Now that sounds like fun, I love cleaves and mass killing enemies. Wasn't there something dumb about expansion classes though? Like don't they start off in a different area and at like level 10?
I just love the vanilla campaign, I always have fun playing it
No class is outright flavorless but Paragons are less necessary in general, Rangers are somewhat niche and could usually be fulfilled better by a hero, and other physical damage dealers/Eles are hindered in hard mode by armor value increases. Mesmer shutdown is very powerful and it's damage, in addition to having some of the highest numbers, is also armor-ignoring. But you have to learn how to use the mesmer because many skills are contingent on a cursory effect to activate. A necro does less armor ignoring damage but with conditions sprinkled in. They're a very capable class due to their primary attribute being THE BEST (and completely passive) energy management in the game.
They do start off in a different area, yes. But they can be ran to prophecies at a low level, however they'll unfortunately lag behind in XP since they don't get bonuses from a lot of the main story quests.
If you want prophecies, I like necro and ranger best.
>log into my monk
>remember I'd have to relearn my build
>remember I'd have to relearn all my keybindings
remember my character's retarded name
A free private server like Nostalrius for Guild Wars 1 would bring in tons of people because the reason none of us play anymore is because nobody is playing, which can be fixed with a free private server.
Damn I miss this game.
>>remember my character's retarded name
Even worse than that to me is how utterly retarded my main at the time looked.
Could you imagine? All the skills getting proper balance and shitty ones being dropped.
Best login screen and theme ever:
>tfw Factions is the one I got the least far in
Got to the endgame of Prophesies and Nightfall (never beat em though), but I was still in the slums in Factions.
ITT: Remember how hyped you were for GW2 and then how betrayed you felt when you finally played it
I know these feels, bruh. I think we're trying to put a new steam group together for GW1, so pay attention to this thread.
My dumb ass paid 150$ for the collector's edition. I hate everything so much
God it was such a fucking disappointment carefully hidden under a lot of flashy shit.
Join this real nigga group then get your ass to Dragon's Throat cause we doin this shit son.
Get the fuck in here, real shit is happening.
Come relive the splendor, /v/
fucking what? git fucking gud, you can literally clear all content in the game with just the AI companions and play GW like a singleplayer game if you're good with builds or just use google.
>tfw rich because of Droknar and Crystal desert ascension pack runs
I loved Faction but damn, those story-gated areas killed a whole side of GW's economy
Also best theme forever
>tfw used to run people from LA back to ascalon
>15k a person
We're thinking of trying to find a night where everyone is available, once a week. Make this some routine gay shit
We're still fucking around.
>everyone mad jealous of swords
>anywhere as decent as a real healer
Where does this meme comes from holy shit
AI healers are godlike, they have always been, most healers were clinically retarded in this game, fucking Alesia spamming area of healing was more contributive than your average monk just make them Mo/Me with those energy resupplying interupts
>party expects me to bring a healer along
fuck you i'm not micromanaging ANOTHER healer why can't people understand this shit
I thought so too, thought it would be "fun" to play this again after all these years
Seeing all the dead outposts that once brimmed with life legit brought a tear to my eyes
>go to a really obscure shiverpeaks outpost
>two dudes with russian names are there
>they both leave as soon as they realize I'm there
>GW is so dead mafias from all around the world hold meetings there to be absolutely sure nobody will monitor them
>yfw CIA and FBI agents kept running into eachother in WoW
>yfw they probably existed back on GW when it was popular
What I did was give my Tahlkora UA, a few good heals and party heals, and then mesmer interrupts for energy management. Did better with her than most other player monks with very little micro managing.
Both were equally shit and brought some form of cancer that made the very concept of the game completely meaningless. Both heroes and PVE skills need to die a painful death. I was fine with Faction PVE skills because you could only equip one and they were per character class, EotN standardized PVE skills builds were fucking cancer
>tfw loved Prophecies
>tfw I always wanted an event where Prophecies characters could go back into the Pre-searing for a little while, kind of like how WoW let you visit famous events in the Caverns of Time
>tfw it never happened
I just wanted to take my old Elementalist and reflect on everything for a little while.
>all that effort they put into the pre searing area
>just for it to get nuked by pissed off furries
i remember being pissed off as fuck when i first got guild wars because i thought pre-searing was the whole game and then i had to play a bunch of missions in old ascalon which was greyer and less colorful than an FPS from 2007
i almost quit because old ascalon was so ugly
>mfw thats close to my normal download speed
Fuck, this is why I buy CD's for games
>tfw bought the whole franchise and only got to finish Factions and half of Prophecies. I did spend quite a bit of time in pre-searing.
The only reason I didn't stick more to it was because I didn't have any
friends. Do you guys think it's worth going back just to get all campaigns done?
>seeing adult gwen for the first time
and then fapping to her
she was pretty hot
>so excited to play the game that I read the booklet really really fast, skipping forward whole passages
>suddenly out of pre-searing, old ascalon ruins
>difficulty skyrockets, can't kill whole groups on my own, forced to pick up isolated enemies one by one
>remember reading something about henchmen and how you could hire them for money
>was poor as fuck
>didn't try to hire one until I reached Piken Square
>it just meant you'd get a bit less gold per monster killed
I never felt so fucking retarded, wasted hours there
>this guy thought you had to pay for henchmen
thanks for the lel anon
>guild wars thread
>it's right before I go to bed
I used to be leader of nostalgia wars like 2 months back
You guys gonna be on later? Like 3-4:30 ESTish?
I still haven't got the ectos for my first obsidian set, like 20 more to farm
kek, playing on hardmode.
Okay faggots, OP here. I'm going to bed, but I'm going to shill this shit in the coming weeks. 1 because dragon arena is coming up, and 2 because this game is fantastic.
JOIN THE FUCKING STEAM GROUP FAGGOT
I know how you feel. Pre-Searing is legitimately one of the most comfy areas I've ever visited in any games. I loved that little place just next to the mountains where you could find ice elementals. The green scenery next to the snow was just so relaxing.
When are you next online senpai
I'd be down to play
yeah I just waited for these threads to pop up; I'm always down for weekend games
Nah, lord pieman, the guy who got made leader afterwards
>NW guild leader
>anybody but kianna or turtles
I gotta have the struggle though senpai
I just logged in one day as the leader, idk
I'll probably post in the steam group, maybe make a thread when I'm up later
i have no good screenshots since i reformatted my comp and forgot to back up my hard drive
>Factions 2 will never happen because its too problematic
Atleast they can't ruin it. Also reminder that Jeremy did such a good job with the gook music of Factions he got hired to do a shit load of WoW Music for Pandaria that also turned out well. Links related:
Of course not. All the developers are gone and talentless hacks stole their intellectual property to make this abortion.
The Developers have not included anything but a minor mention of Cantha in GW2 because the game is infested (and run by) SJWs and they think the portrayal of the Canthan people in GW1 was problematic.
I can't even begin to tell how you fucking depressing it is that liberals and SJWs took over this IP. Did you know the cunt that directed GW2 tweeted (proudly) that she didn't even play Guild Wars.
JUST FUCK MY SHIT UP
>Sell Base game for 10-40 Dollars for almost 4 Years
>Decide it is F2P
>Everyone starts quitting because they feel betrayed, more than they did at launch
>Heart of Thorns is 50 Dollars for basically a Season of Story Mode
>Reuse shitloads of Assests
>Do nothing original
I never played it, but god damn I have not even heard my shill friends talk about it, it must have been horrible.
>Game is still just about the fucking salad people.
Holy fucking shit Literally the worst race I've ever seen in a fantasy setting and they just wont stop fucking suing them.
Could of had fucking cantha could have had the fucking norn expansion but no. Endless fucking salad people.
I fucking hate whoever came up with those fucking ranch dressing mother fuckers.
>the cunt that directed GW2 tweeted (proudly) that she didn't even play Guild Wars.
Everytime I'm reminded of this it never fails to upset me
>The excitement of capturing a new elite skill for the first time
>Wondering just how many elite skills were out there
>I fucking hate whoever came up with those fucking ranch dressing mother fuckers.
Angela McCoy, lead storywriter. She developed the salads as a race before she worked for Arena.net, then just forced them into the story and made them the most special race.
She's also the reason for all the unnecessary steampunk bullshit everywhere.
One is an innovative, weird environment
The other is a kung fu panda
I remember when it was all about GW vs WoW and the answer was always pretty clear in my eyes. WoW was for retards, Guild Wars for slightly less retarded people. If for no other reason, then aesthetics alone.
What I am mostly disappointed in is the fact that GW2's expansion was basically nothing. They worked for more than a year on it and I'm still baffled at how little of anything there was.
>Four maps. Four nice maps, but only four. EXP gated in an insane way to artificially make you feel like you are doing meaningful content while in reality you have to just keep repeating the meta over and over again.
>Like 4 new armors
>Everything that came out in the gemstore in the last weerks was higher quality. The timekeeper weapons are better than most legendaries.
>Not a single new fractal, raids are not completed and will be implemented "later".
>Colin already talking in guild chat about the NEW expansion
Meanwhile in gw1...
>Periodical release with entire new map, two new professions, hundreds of new skills
No wonder they are so mary fucking sueish.
She literally took the equivalent of he own character, turned it into an entire race, and started making them the best at everything while shitting on the other races.
If you take the amount of content from heart of thorns and compare it to the amount of content from any fucking GW1 expansion it make heart of thorns look like a fucking joke.
this game was alright, still flawed but much better then what you get today, especially compared to gw2...
they could have build upon what they had and improve but everything went to shit for some reason
>Heart of Thorns released ~3 years after GW2 was released
>Eye of the North released ~2 years after GW1 was released
Don't forget that balance patches won't be done until February, even though the meta is so hilariously broken that there's only about four viable builds.
In the meantime, please buy the three brand new items we just added to the gemstore. :^)
Considering how fractals went, I think the future looks quite bad.
I believe we'll slowly get all the wings of this raid in the course of, like, a year. And then we'll never hear anything from the "raid team" again. I can already smell the PR bullshit from Colin.
>"We in the team believe Raids found a nice place in the overall Guild Wars 2 community and don't feel the need to add more in order to avoid dividing the community. Stay tuned for our next episode of Guild Chat where we'll talk about our plans for the next WvsW redesign!"
>those long adventures to middle of nowhere
>just to kill that one boss for some elite skill
Even that has gone to shit because of the changes they implemented. Only the top two tiers are active now. There is no WvW outside of them.
Would you like me to show you the other members of the writing team? :^)
>NCSOFT KILLED CoX
Nigga they didnt just kill it. They are trying to fucking erase it from existence.
>Wont let anyone buy IP
>Wont let anyone use IP
>Wont do anything with IP
Ncsoft is a fucking cancer
>A team with a zerg runs around the map, following or being followed by another zerg.
>The two unform masses of people clash together in an explosion where individual skills means nothing.
>Repeat for hours and hours.
The only people having fun in WvW are the commanders. And even then enjoy having absolutely no rewards nor progression of any kind.
Everything in gw2 is shit.
>there's only about four viable builds.
Theres a whole 4 viable builds? Thats like 2 more than before the expansion!
>Wont let anyone buy IP
>Wont let anyone use IP
>Wont do anything with IP
Just like Auto Assault and Tabula Rasa, they also train their lawyers on anyone who makes private servers.
>those spreadsheets with the lists of all the elite skills and shit you could unlock
>tfw ticking them off over a long lazy weekend
I no longer remember what the hell Obsidian armor was, but Fissure of Woe and Balthazar are names that ring a bell. Unfortunately the only thing I remember about Balth is there was a aura skill, and FoW being apparently hard for casuals.
GW1 had the best grindan, it was actually satisfying
>completing areas in hardmode when it just came out
>all that assrape
Hardmode in general was such a great addition, and it was completely free
best elite in the game coming through, all other skills need not apply thx
Boogeymen are supposed to be invisible to everyone but their victims m8
How are these even remotely invisible
>tfw want to quit GW2
>tfw I can't because my mum plays it and needs help all of the time
>tfw I have to do all of the hard shit for her
>tfw she's only good at grinding because excessive patience/free time
>tfw she gets all of this attention from her guidmates just because she's a woman
>tfw she's never been exposed to the whole internet friends thing before this
>tfw I typed /age to see how many hours she's accumulated
>tfw 9,800 hours
>tfw the game I have the most hours on ever is 2,025
I want this ride to end. I'm sick of this shit game and I wish she'd see how awful it is too.
It's not a mmorpg, for starters, they called it a c(competitive or cooperative) rpg. Towns and cities were hubs wher you'd assemble your parties, but the actual areas were instanced. There was a dual-class system, allowing for a gazillion differnt builds and party compositions. You'd reach the level and item cap very quickly, and the endgame was basically cosmetics and getting rich
It was the opposite for me. I introduced my mum to Guild Wars 1. She loved the game and always played by herself with heroes/henchmen.
Then GW2 happened and then all this bullshit started.
Shit I'm getting old, I had at least 4 characters in that tier set. But all I remember from PvE is vague moments of being in a dark place and leading friends and getting caught up in over aggro.
Hell I think the most memorable PvE part for me (based on memory not on what I like) is that one mission at night, where you can kinda go covert ops, you run left along the mountain walls, then uh, you do something something, then kill some faggot knight or paladin or whatever, and then run away.
Know what I'm talking about? Anyway, it scares me I can no longer remember these things despite being reasonably hardcore in that game. Literally all that remains clear is Halls. Lots, and lots, of Halls waiting for challengers.
Yeah I know what you're talking about. The bonus was to kill the watchtowers and the main mission was to get the scepter of orr back.
I only know this because I did it all twice back in May/June.
Yes, yes that's it. Kryta. Holy fuck another word I remember. All those damn jungles, and the medieval KKK. And that stupidly big scepter.
I don't even remember why I grinded that mission so much, I just remember I did for a good reason. No maybe it was a pathetic reason, but at the time it felt worth doing despite being tediously boring as fuck once you got it down.
My most fondly remembered part of the game is fighting Rotscale, an undead necro dragon in Kryta, because he wiped us hard lots of times
Then hardmode hit, we went back to beat him up again, and he raped us even harder
Yes goyim, bring me the Ssscepter of Orr, we mussst keep it out of the handsss of the evil mantle.
Woah, things are slowly coming back to me whenever you guys bring up names. Wait was Rotscale hard? I never remembered that. I just remember everyone on vent yelling how cool it was the first time. Did he even have a good signet skill for necros? Shit it's all blurry.
I have no recollection of what this hardmode is, and this scares me. Was I missing out? I stopped playing in the first year of launch.
Hardmode was something they added much later. Every single part of the map was updated for level 20 characters. Regions for level 20 characters were updated to be even harder. It was hard as fuck (as you might suspect), but the rewards were pretty great and you got the title of vanquisher for clearing all of the regions on a map.
He was hard to us, maybe we just sucked. He was accompanied by like 4 other dragons and some mooks, and he'd cast skills that punished you for attacking, that lifeleech one iirc
Hardmode was introduced somewhen later, and it was fucking amazing. Every single map and enemy got vamped up to be lvl20+, with new skillsets, drops and everything. Even the starter areas like old ascalon were lvl20+ versions now. Droprates were increased, too. You could vanquish areas as in killing every enemy in them, which gave you gold and exp iirc, and counted towards a vanquisher title. Ass the missions also got hardmode versions
>Rotscale in HM
Oh shit it's all flooding back.
>all those enemies surrounding him
>all that health
>tfw vanquishing your way through the map in 12-hour-sessions, by starting somewhere with 8 man groups and working your way to the 6 and 4-man areas
Old ascalon HM with 4 people was fucking bullshit tough
It amazes me that the character designs from GW1, with their infinitely inferior graphical potential, still look leagues better than any character in GW2.
Also, Jora a best. Close second is Cynn with her hidden panties.
>mini pigs were literally the most worthless mini in the game and sold for like 1k if not less
>then the canthan new year comes and it turns out you need 3 mini pigs to get the new badass celestial minifigures
>the price of pork went up to like 75k per pig
i never knew this was a thing
i had to google it
I remember farming undeads next to Lion's Arch with my ranger. There was an invincible npc pig that you could trigger, and he'd aggro and tank all the undeads while my Ranger rained down holy hell upon them.
>all those golden drops
>chain stunning 3 assassins at the same time with this and yeti smash
>used to play in pugs for FoW groups
>checking for a group one day on my monk
>see a group looking for an illusion mesmer for FoW
>have a mesmer that I've dumped 300 hours into, figure why not and see why they want such a non-traditional class for PvE
>end up in their guild and clearing FoW/UW on the regular with my mesmer
>has a reptilian face
>phases in and out like a ghost
I mean, who fucking didn't saw it coming?
Anet could have tried to give him at least a nicer-looking model for our first encounter
>that feel when ripping people off.
I remember when I wanted to buy Kanaxais Axe for my Warrior but had not enough money so I bargained with a dude to give him some dyes and other mats that I had for the axe plus 90k.
I honestly wanted to buy that Axe but it was in that moment when I realized that the other guy clicked on "accept" and I forgot to put in the 90k (It was around 100k at most).
I turned into a fucking Mordecai Shekelgruber and accepted and logged out right away and logged back in and put the dude on ignore.
What's the most jewish thing you did /v/?
What happened to him in GW2? Nigger is probably older than the actual gods.
>see that shit in RA/TA
>just ignore them as they whack me with their shit noodle, yelling at me to stop murdering their monks
Every time a warrior used glad stance in pvp, I laughed. Always better to just go frenzy/shock for pressure. Otherwise you're useless.
>those cunts who ran shadow form in fort aspenwood
>tfw I would bring pic related and fuck their shit up
this was the only skill that could remove shadow form from somebody
How much later? Because I gave my account to my grand dad and he beat everything solo with henchmen for years. I even bought Factions and Nightfall for him and only during the first 4 months did he ask me to show him how to beat missions. By the time Nightfall came out I couldn't even help him. He was better at PvE than I was. And his main problem was he fails at reading quest dialogue so he always gets lost. Can you imagine a 70+ year old guy always going "Where the hell am I supposed to go?" and keep cycling through maps going around in circles for hours? Then again he probably never even knew hard mode existed.
I remember other dragons, no idea if it was 4, trash mobs yes. Leech life and the punishing for attacking yes. I wouldn't say you guys sucked, cause plenty of my friends couldn't handle PvE either and I remember running them through the whole game many times. I just meant once you learned the encounter it didn't seem mechanically demanding.
That's like when you play counter mesmer in halls and not getting baited by one of the other two teams.
>tfw blowing him the fuck out in the bonus mission pack
You reminded me of pic fucking related
I'm still mad
>How much later?
Wiki tells me this:
>Hard mode was introduced in the April 19, 2007 update for Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall and in the October 12, 2007 update for Eye of the North.
Ah, doubt my gramps ever had to hardmode it then. He went back to D2 after getting stuck in Nightfall PvE for too long.
I feel like I missed out on something fun though. Shame I never had friends to go back and wipe with at the time.
>tfw used to own House zu Heltzer

Not phyiscally, perhaps, but I have digital media. Whatever you need to further your own ego there cutie pie. This is the kind of response I would expect in a GW thread.
This hurts so much. And it doesn't even include that lead designer girl who never played GW1. Which completely baffles me as to how she got put in charge beyond office politics/vagina.
How about you just go fuck yourselves?
I think I'm one of the uncommon types that genuinely enjoyed GW1 and WoW for what they were in their heyday. And I was pretty accomplished in both as well, so it wasn't just because it was a brand new experience.
As far as PvP goes, I think GW1 was more akin to playing MTG card games, except multiplayer. The mechanical skill was there, but it was a trivial amount until you reach the top 30 in GvG, and even then I'd argue (at least the emerging meta at the time) that there were only 2-3 guilds with a clear overall mechanical skill gap from the average non-casual. It was just a matter of knowing the right people and learning what to do then trying to out Yugioh the other team.
Unless you're Last of Master.
But WoW PvP is more flexible in categorization. BG was like a soccer match, whereas arenas were like street hoop. You can argue that the mechanical skill wasn't much compared to FPS, but even a rogue has far more buttons and status icons than any character in GW1 ever had to manage. What differed was that because of how the game was nowhere near as flexible with your character, the strategies (aka none) and tactics (what people actually meant by strategy) were all very simple and anyone could learn it. It's just a matter of being quicker than the opponent, and having better concentration as well as being able to shift gears when RNG swings towards or away from you (mace stun lol).
The closest to compare would be WoW WSG to GW1 GvG, because well GvG still had a bit of soccer match in it. But again one is more about cards, the other about twitch, even if slightly.
4th excuse, yes my point is that you are a poorfag ironically calling others poorfags, who "grew out" of collecting games but "buys" games and actually has none. You got caught hard and rekt pretty bad when you can't show any games.
He's not even that big in comparison to the mountain range above or to how big the ancient dragons are supposed to be lore-wise, but he's still an impressive appearance
Not really because your opinion doesn't matter and you're objectively wrong. I like your amount of games = wealth analogy though. That's what I thought as well when I was in high school.
> I like your amount of games = wealth analogy though.
You mean playing subscription=wealth analogy
You age is showing more with you every post, and you still have 0 games. I unironically pity you, games are fun anon.
I'm so bored of you. Do you have anything interesting to add to the thread?
Neat how you can kinda see him on the minimap
Still no point, huh? Dust off those cheetoh fingers and go for a run anon. Your teen angst is starting to build up and if you don't exert yourself you might throw another aspergers fit.
>they kept Izzy
>he's still in charge of balance
>got my gw2 account hacked by gook fucks
>anet costumer support is so bad they can't do shit, but lock my account
>now my GW1 account is also locked, because i thought HoM was going to give cool shit
>tfw gw2 has the potential to still be the best gw
>sjw cuck developers that don't understand the mechanics of their own game keep shitting all over it with broken promises and a lack of permanent, quality content.
HoT was their last chance to dig it out of the cesspool that NCsoft / the developers steadily let it slide into. It's obviously clear that the game is now in a totally new model of payment with it going F2P.
Thankfully at least some of the blind masses seem to actually start reacting to and calling out the devs on their bullshit and leaving due to HoT's horrible launch.
You know, I hated GW2 as a whole, but saw some potential at least in the WvW mode. And yet neo-Anet has basically ignored the gamemode entirely, coming out with two shittily designed maps that incorporate more PvE and funneling than actual WvW. Zerging is also not only still the preferred method of playing, but has in fact become even more effective while hurting small man squads. I am convinced they either actively hate their own players, or have never actually played a fun videogame before, and so have no idea how to make one (which is possible considering most of the staff has seemingly never played the original).
WvW was the thing for me also. Kept me playing for a good while solo as a pug and in a guild. I didn't even bother redownloading the client after I read the feedback the new map got. Not to mention other changes like moving Reset night to saturday.
Izzy was the laughing stock/whipping boy of the original Guild Wars community for years for his various stupid and nonsensical balance passes. The fact that he was in fact promoted and now apparently is a lead developer should tell you all you need to know.
>Cantha will never be real again
I'm almost glad they won't ruin it with their fanfiction tier sjw writing and their shit gameplay
It's definitely for the best. They'd probably make the emperor evil and the entire game about dismantling the "evil and racist" human empire in favor of multiculturalism, salads, and barbed dicks.
>Being a mesmer makes it easier
Is this some meta joke about how mesmers were op at the time they made that character? Or did they dumb down mesmer skills so that even a landwhale wouldn't fatfinger herself to failure?
It's kind of funny when you think about it. It's basically admitting they're not really a woman. That it's all just a pathetic illusion and declaring that transfaggots are just caught up in a make believe world.
But that's how the real world works to an extent as well. So long as the ones who hold power manage it well, history is written however they like. I mean we have much more secure verification in our modern era, but if somehow laws get passed where trannies and shit get exempted cause they identify as whatever the fuck, maybe even aliens, then those technological strides made are totally useless.
There are some parts of the GW2 world that really make you want to explore it.
The world itself really is fucking well done and immersive. The combat, classes and story, and the fact that this was supposed to be a SEQUEL TO GUILD WARS reverses all that though.
I liked the human city, whatever the fuck it's name was. I liked the fact that there were multiple assorted buildings I could enter, and they were relatively fleshed out even if they didn't really have any memorable npcs hanging around doing their thing, though that might just be because there was a shit ton of rpers blocking my screen from exploring the buildings properly.
The architecture was fun for it's time. Also liked how it contrasted with that shit hole city you later quest in with the riots and crap. I don't even remember WoW having something like that up to Cata, a genuine city that functions like a city instead of another nigger settlement to pillage and raze for fetch quests.
But it's still pretty trivial in the grand scheme of things.
She had Mhenlo on a fucking chain the entire series. She was just also a total tsundere who got furious over the fact that he may have known some people of the opposite sex when he was younger.
I also like the "That's brave of you".
Somehow putting up a disguise, lying to yourself, lying to the others around you, cutting ties with your former relatives is "brave", but facing reality, endorsing the responsibilities that have been put upon you as a male and dealing with the fact you'll never be able to become a real woman to escape these responsibilities isn't.
I don't understand desu
I do. At a certain point, keeping up the lies is way more stressful than just coming out in the open. But sometimes either the payoff is worth it for whatever reason, or you are just fucked if you do spill your spaghetti.
At least, that's how it is in business. This is /v/ so you should at least acknowledge what I'm saying given the years gone by. Conning your fanbase over decades is definitely praiseworthy in a sense.
Arena.net is still footing the bills for the original game, and you get to experience the whole thing with no online subscriptions. Just grab a complete pack and jump in.
Make sure you find someone to play with though. Outposts are very empty these days.
GW2 isn't just really boring, it is literally the complete opposite of GW1. Challenge was replaced with grind. Objective based missions were replaced with event trains. A well-written story in a mature world was replaced with LOL DRAGONS. A very competitive PvP scene was replaced with a zerg fest. Decision making was replaced with walking around and mashing buttons. Beautifully styled yet realistic graphics were replaced with a cartoony art style.
Sadly nothing else could be expected though. All the original developers but one left Arenanet. The studio is filled with new blood that wanted to make just another WoW competitor instead of a true sequel for GW which was without a doubt one of the most unique and compelling MMORPGs in the market.
>A well-written story in a mature world
Now pal I hate GW2 as much as your anon next door, but come on, GW story was incredibly cheesy, generic and kinda retarded at some point. Take off these nostalgia goggles m8
>just another WoW competitor
They failed horribly as well. To begin with their engine doesn't even complement the more twitchy-based PvP of WoW. Hell it's the one thing WoW is objectively acclaimed for. It's really fucking smooth when it comes to pressing a button and seeing your character do an action without making you feel like a statue or winding up for ages. Granted in return it looks like absolute dogshit, but hey that's how it is.
I was in that alliance for awhile
They sucked all they did was run IWAY
Then Bad Boy "iway to r9" ortiz thought he was tough shit when he ran ritualist spike to r11 with better guilds.
I used to play with french fags who would do an insane condition build that consisted of everyone giving themselves conditions, the monk (usually me) running Martyr, and 2 necromancers draw conditioning back and forth with that skill that causes AOE damage when getting a condition.
That bittersweet feel when you close in on the last elite you don't have after ages of methodically hunting down hundreds of bosses, and you realize that this part of the adventure will soon be over
I don't know what it was about GW2 that makes people suspend reason, I also played the beta, hated it,then bought it anyway because for some reason I hoped it might be better.
You sure as hell couldn't jump up to Nightfall. Did they change that? I remember sliding around while my character pulled off casting animations clearly intended for standing still all day.
I remember spending hours hunting specific bosses down for their unique weapons. Some of them had pretty cool skins/great upgrades, and dressing up my heroes with them was a lot of fun.
Earn shaker is legit. I fucking loved going hammer warrior. Also
>stunlocking the everloving fuck out of a healer with dwarven battle stance
>nailing someone with backbreaker and killing them before they can even get up
Also best expansion in terms of world building / visual design. I have really never seen something like this ever again:
Begin on a small island with a Buddhist monastery.
Have an entire city modelled after Kowloon Walled City.
Travel to an entire sea made out of jade where people travel on giant turtles instead of ships.
Explore a giant forest entirely hand crafted with a gothic design.
Finally go through the richer parts of Kaineng city modelled after Chinese palaces.
All brought together with a mature story that had PvP completely intertwined in it's single player and story elements ( i.e. all the Kurzick vs Luxon PvP missions and mode ). The player is forced to pick sides and everything is not as black and white as in other MMOs.
Are you triggered yet?
How does it feel to be countered by a 5 energy / 4s CD spell?
>He doesn't know how to jump
>tfw got hyped for W*
The ride never ends
Because gw1 was memorable and you remember many things about it while gw2 is blunder no one remember
it still hurts
Who else fapped to their GW1 character at some point? Don't be afraid to admit.
Was GW as buggy as GW2 is? It's like every time we get a patch, I wonder what else they broke and what still hasn't been fixed.
If there will be, the community won't be the same. GW was from the golden era of other popular online community games like Warcraft 3, Counter-Strike and Unreal Tournament. This was before things like Facebook making the internet extremely main stream, games were still only for the nerds. I don't think there will be games with such close knit communities ever again.
I didnt fap to anything in game but I did fap to the Dervish lady on the cover of Nightfall. And to Varesh, because I love brown female villains.
My cock. Also best cape emblem.
GW was way more simple, so outside of clipping into certain buildings or what have you, I don't remember any huge bugs. Balancing was always a bitch with that many skills though. Absolutely not as bad as GW2 though. I'm hearing only now GW2 is getting around to fixing how tiers work lmao.
Are you doing the --image command line thing?
>Elite Druid armor
Good fucking shit.
