Not what KyoAni fans wanted so BDs sold poorly. The rest of the anime community already had stuff like Crayon Shin Chan, Dororon Enma-kun, Cromartie High School or FLCL to fill their 'random humor' quota.

It just wasn't what the majority of the market wanted. Mitsudomoe also failed in the same year. Though I would claim Mitsudomoe had more than just random humor in its favor.
