Just started playing the first game, game is pretty cool so far. I can handle the graphics, the encounter system, the wonky english dub, what I can't handle is how obvious the looping is on the ambient tracks.

Anything and anywhere you are there is a background track that continually loops, it's meant to make the places sound more full and dynamic but it's grating and continually tears me away from the game.

It's not the music it's the ambient noises, like not even the NPC noises but like the crowd tracks and background shop ambience. If it was music I might be able to get over it, like the battle themes don't bother me at all but the constant fucking crowd noises that loop every 5 seconds are rally annoying.

Side stories are short and main story has recaps and info about characters. I made a huge pause while playing 4 and still got everything after I returned. Everything but combat skill, I started to suck after that.

I just finished 5. What a ride this was. Whats the /v/erdict?

It is the biggest one yet and I really enjoyed the side stories. Never have I spend so much time on side content.Gameplay was great and the game was funny. But the story is the weakest so far and Shinada wasn't a fun character to play.

I believe because it is still not well known. That is really it. The more people like something, the worse the fans get just due to sheer numbers. I believe this could be applied to just about anything, so I am grateful that the people in these threads are pretty cool.

Anyway, I just started Haruka's chapter. Really having a fun time so fair. Definitely an interesting break from the usual. All I've heard about the idol business is that it's apparently pretty fucked up, so it will be interesting to see this.

Always love that this series at random points waxes philosophical on topics, like when Haruka's boss starts talking about what it means to be loved, and how they introduced Nakajima. Really shows that the writers at least care about their story in my opinion, which is fun. These games are so fun.

It was good. But some parts have surprisingly bad design, like stupid level cap, grindy and shitty IF8, useless and annoying weapon skills, missable content, no clear save file in PA. I enjoyed the content though, hunting was one of the best expiriences in Yakuza games I ever had and Haruka's chapter was fun and refreshing but sadly too easy, there's no challenge whatsoever.

3 should have starred someone else. It was the perfect opportunity. New writer, new console, 2 was a nice conclusion, and scaling thingd up from there would be hard. But then they stuck with Kazuma and now they have no idea what to do with him. Just give him an orphanage and give him an excuse to go back every new game.

I liked the story in 3 up until the Barack Monday stuff came out. It was a new town with new families to deal with and stuff.

It was only in 4 where I felt that Kiryu felt shoehorned in. 5 was a massive return to form for the character in my opinion.

It's niche in the west, and not counting 1 and 2 HD on WiiU in Japan, they're only on PlayStation, meaning there's not much room for console/system warring.

If Sega starts porting them to PC then there could be some system warring depending on how much popular they become with the Steam audience, but I think they won't get too popular, most people will see them as "japanese GTA" and ignore, like most people in the west have been doing since the beginning.

Anyway Yakuza is a relatively young series, although it has a lot of installments already. Eventually there will be wars between the fandom, like fans of 2 against fans of 4, and so on, every fanbase goes to shit eventually, I can only think of one or two fanbases that remained niche enough (as in actual niche, not "niche IRL but popular as fuck on the internet") to not become poisonous.

Like Stalker, good Indie games and most games with a small following, the fandom is fantastic

Because it's an exclusive series in the west. There was never any room for platform bitching, so every topic for it never descended into constant shitflinging.
