So why is Yakuza's Fandom so awesome? Also Yakuza thread
Just started playing the first game, game is pretty cool so far. I can handle the graphics, the encounter system, the wonky english dub, what I can't handle is how obvious the looping is on the ambient tracks.
Anything and anywhere you are there is a background track that continually loops, it's meant to make the places sound more full and dynamic but it's grating and continually tears me away from the game.
Send halp pls, I want to into Yakuza.
Because we have these couple of threads every few years, then they die till a new one is released.
We love the games, and we love talking shit about the writing, but you can only do that for so long.
It's not the music it's the ambient noises, like not even the NPC noises but like the crowd tracks and background shop ambience. If it was music I might be able to get over it, like the battle themes don't bother me at all but the constant fucking crowd noises that loop every 5 seconds are rally annoying.
Anyway, is it me or is Kiryu slower in 5?
Might as well post this for everyone to read again
He is. There isn't a combo speed boost anymore for him plus his the first 3 hits of the square string got re animated to him not moving as far forward.
If you wanna get into 5 ASAP sure
>tfw 20 hours into Yakuza 2 and I'm not even half way through
Side stories are short and main story has recaps and info about characters. I made a huge pause while playing 4 and still got everything after I returned. Everything but combat skill, I started to suck after that.
I hope we get to see the new designs for everyone in Yakuza 6
I just finished 5. What a ride this was. Whats the /v/erdict?
It is the biggest one yet and I really enjoyed the side stories. Never have I spend so much time on side content.Gameplay was great and the game was funny. But the story is the weakest so far and Shinada wasn't a fun character to play.
Kiryu part is the best one of the game with the best substory and the best highs in the game.
So its kinda sad how everything is downhill after Kiryu.
I really like Shinada's part tho.
>tfw 60 hours into yakuza 5 and only have about 30% completion
granted I guarantee you at least 40% of that is optional stuff I'll never touch (I'm looking at you fishing) but still.
>Shinada's coliseum fights
>a character whose attacks are weak, doesn't have a huge amount of health, has a limited amount of unarmed heat moves and relies on grabs and weapons and has no tiger drop equivalent
>higher ranked enemies immediately break out of grabs and you're not allowed to use weapons
who the FUCK thought this was a good idea
Kiryu got the best part, Best cutscene in the game is Saejima destroying Kugihara's arm. Enjoyable dumb story like always.
>Nagoshi will turn into orange Kiryu in our lifetime
300k-400k to get to S rank without much hassle(I bought the gatcha drink all the time)
People who like it tend to be laid back, yet enjoy some silliness from time to time? Yakuza is just a series that's enjoyable all around. Nice and chill, works well even with others just watching.
>unfortunately for Europe, Sega has no plans of a release there.
This hasn't been set in stone yet. You can also add that the PS4 is region-free and you can just import it, since 75% of Europe know English well enough to play video games.
Shogi and Mahjong can go fuck themselves.
Also: This game has the easiest way of earning cash through black jack ever.
I have made over 200K chips in the game and have 99+ Platinum plates in my storage.
More cash than in Yakuza 0, baby.
I was going to say it was them, but I wasn't sure. They're doing "Receive You" as well, right?
Isn't he T-Set's Manager in Yakuza 5?
I found Toshihiro Nagoshi in the PV for Yakuza 0's theme, "Bubble" though
also I remember hearing this years ago when I was looking up hideki naganuma music and thinking "well that's rad."
I was expecting it to be at like a batting center or in convenience stores. Maybe some arcade game.
When I actually heard it in game I nearly died laughing since that wasn't what I expected at all.
I believe because it is still not well known. That is really it. The more people like something, the worse the fans get just due to sheer numbers. I believe this could be applied to just about anything, so I am grateful that the people in these threads are pretty cool.
Anyway, I just started Haruka's chapter. Really having a fun time so fair. Definitely an interesting break from the usual. All I've heard about the idol business is that it's apparently pretty fucked up, so it will be interesting to see this.
Always love that this series at random points waxes philosophical on topics, like when Haruka's boss starts talking about what it means to be loved, and how they introduced Nakajima. Really shows that the writers at least care about their story in my opinion, which is fun. These games are so fun.
IN NEON LIGHTS OF KAMUROCHO MEN BECOME DEMONS
I kinda have a soft sport for those looping city sounds.
Also am I the only one that hears sotenbori in osakas ambient city sounds in Yakuza 2?
The one where Shinada gets referred to a mysterious job and you have to swear servitude to the guy hiring you. They're guys in fundoshis and Shinada says he's totally not into it, like the diaper quest in 2
It was good. But some parts have surprisingly bad design, like stupid level cap, grindy and shitty IF8, useless and annoying weapon skills, missable content, no clear save file in PA. I enjoyed the content though, hunting was one of the best expiriences in Yakuza games I ever had and Haruka's chapter was fun and refreshing
but sadly too easy, there's no challenge whatsoever.
>there's so much to do in 5 that I don't feel like playing it
>complete the game last night
>only 12% complete
Just enjoyed the game. I don't do things for completetion so this is just me playing normally. Also, sometimes I just walked slowly though cities just to enjoy the atmosphere.
/v/ shits on the stories as of late, but is really anything you can do at this point? There's so many fan favorite characters that can't be killed or have to to show up that it's bound to be a clusterfuck
Can you come up with a good compelling story for six, /v/?
>IF8 doctor destroys space-time continium
>There are several Kiryus in Kamurocho which is tearing itself apart with modent gangsters, medival samurai and ninjas fighting it on the streets and trying to understand what the fuck is happening
>Evil Kiryu from the timeline where Nishki went to prison is there too, does some not-so-good stuff (but he is a "grey" villian, with sympathetic motivations somewhat, but he is corrupted to the core)
>Three good Kiryus (Ishin, Kenzan, Mainline) are trying to sort things out before the whole universe collapses.
>Ends with the shirtless fight between Mainline Kiryu and Evil Kiryu (who has full tatoo that covers his arms) on millenium tower with some blackhole in the background
I think I've got this, better call Nagoshi.
Loved Kiryu and Shinada's chapters
the stuff inbetween drags a bit but there are some fun parts there too
Core story was weak, though it also has one of the strongest cast of side characters we've had in a Yakuza game for a while
Final boss' identity was disappointing but his moveset and the scenery involved with the fight was sufficiently cool atleast
Best soundtrack amongst the mainline games so far imo
>never got into the series
>want to start now, looks like my kinda jam
>don't own a PS2 any more
>try emulating, no matter what I try it results in people missing body parts everywhere
I don't know what to do anymore. The only thing I am hoping for right now is for Sony to put 1 and 2 on that new PS4 emulation thing.
You can try starting at 3 or 4. Both have the option to view summaries of earlier games (not sure why 5 doesn't have this feature)
4's story is a bit more self-contained than 3's so people often recommend it over 3 as a starting point.
I really, really don't want to view summaries.
I want to experience them fully for the first time.
It could have been a bad ISO i tried to emulate. I just don't have enough knowledge about emulation to know where to find good quality shit.
Zero's acheivements are easy compared to Ishin.
The only hard acheivements are getting the Telekura girls. And maybe the Mahjong acheivement.
Worser than the Smash and Nintendo fans?
I heard they have but it's less clunky.
Who here is anticipating the release of Kiwami? Judging from the trailers so far it looks like Y0 with Y1 story slapped on it.
Do you think Nishiki will be a playable character like Majima was in 0 or will we get an hour of backstory?
If Nishiki were playable they would've shown that off by now, I reckon.
I have no idea how they're gonna deliver it but yeah, seems like it'll just be backstory cutscenes. Majima and Yumi are supposed to be getting something similar too I think.
On that note, it seems that Kiwami has nothing new to offer except the Majima system and the cat fighting minigame.
At the very least it has the coolest level up screen.
>Majima system is the Extortionist system from 0 but much more annoying.
>Cafights were also in 0 along with pocket circuit.
>Level up system is a copy paste job from 0
Well shit, i just hope they deliver on the story department. I love 1's story to bits but i never understand why Nishiki went batshit after Kazuma took the fall for him.
Looks like we're getting 2 more styles on top of the existing 4 from 0
>5's premium adventure mode
>go to costumes
>Haruka doesn't have her dance lesson outfit selectable
well atleast Kiryu has his lewd noodle stand outfit I guess
some Chinese underwear model, she doesn't do porn or nudes I think
>>try emulating, no matter what I try it results in people missing body parts everywhere
Software mode if everything else faisl. Also, Yakuza 1 and 2 emulated have that annoying BLOOM effect on everything.
Shinada doesn't know anyone who can fight well which is why he's shit. Kiryu knew Kazama, Saejima knew Sasai and Majima, and Akiyama knew Arai.
Also he probably hasn't eaten in days by the time you use him
Anyone else think PC and all its sub-fanbases are just the absolute worst?
I mean, all fanbases are by definition horrible, but people who play on PC have this condecending elitist attitude that is just annoying as fuck. Don't get me wrong, PC is the best place to play video games, but also, who the fuck cares? It's fucking video games.
No where is this more apparent then in when Souls came to PC to me. Those NEVER EVER shitposting kids are annoying as fuck but PC gamers are just as bad for taking the bait and acting even more annoying about it.
I'd buy yakuza on PCs
but yeah those sorta posts don't add much actual discussion to threads (since it's mostly people complaining that they 'can't'/won't play the games and all) and they belong in the port begging threads and not these threads where people are actually talking about the games instead
As an idort I'd agree that mustards are the absolute worst.
I have someone on my Steam friends list who's a mustard and he's a complete douche.
There's no date, and 2017 is just a placeholder. It shouldn't take longer than 5 to localize.
>finish yakuza 3 after 30 hours of gameplay
>thought i did heaps of substories and walked around looking for shit longer than i should've
>mfw the end screen says i only completed 29% of the game
Does Yakuza series emulate well? I'm thinking about using PCSX2 to play the PS2 ones and then buying the PS3 ones.
I emulated both 1/2, European versions
They ran fine for me without changing many settings. 1 has a tiny bloom effect i could've get rid of and the USA version of 2 has this weird effect like there's vaseline on the screen
A clone approved by Dojima himself which is why he is always fucking things up. So that Not Kiryu would take over the Tojo Clan.
all according to keikaku
I find the dumb stuff funny, like notWesker, or rubber bullets, but i wish the game went back to 2 level's of story telling. I don't even know if we can go back to that now, Kazuma being pretty much a saint taking care of an orphanage, all the retarded shit Daigo does, it's too soapy.
Man i wish i could find a video of Kazuma getting stabbed in 2, has to be one of my favorite sequences in video games if all time, but there are only faggy let's play videos
>can't fight amon in Y2 because I missed a single heat action in a location you go to only once at the beginning of the game
First half of the game you play as the clone, second half as real Kiryu. In the final fight you decide who to control. It ends with one face down in the dirt and the other with his back to the camera. Both shirtless, same tattoo.
They're making a very cool Yakuza 6 Arg in Japan, some people may even get killed!
3 should have starred someone else. It was the perfect opportunity. New writer, new console, 2 was a nice conclusion, and scaling thingd up from there would be hard. But then they stuck with Kazuma and now they have no idea what to do with him. Just give him an orphanage and give him an excuse to go back every new game.
I liked the story in 3 up until the Barack Monday stuff came out. It was a new town with new families to deal with and stuff.
It was only in 4 where I felt that Kiryu felt shoehorned in. 5 was a massive return to form for the character in my opinion.
To truly appreciate water, you must first think of all its ingredients, the hydrogen and the oxygen, and how they interact
>So why is Yakuza's Fandom so awesome?
It's niche in the west, and not counting 1 and 2 HD on WiiU in Japan, they're only on PlayStation, meaning there's not much room for console/system warring.
If Sega starts porting them to PC then there could be some system warring depending on how much popular they become with the Steam audience, but I think they won't get too popular, most people will see them as "japanese GTA" and ignore, like most people in the west have been doing since the beginning.
Anyway Yakuza is a relatively young series, although it has a lot of installments already. Eventually there will be wars between the fandom, like fans of 2 against fans of 4, and so on, every fanbase goes to shit eventually, I can only think of one or two fanbases that remained niche enough (as in actual niche, not "niche IRL but popular as fuck on the internet") to not become poisonous.
>So why is Yakuza's Fandom so awesome?
Because it's an exclusive series in the west. There was never any room for platform bitching, so every topic for it never descended into constant shitflinging.
It also being a great series helps too.
