Unless they seriously get their shit together, it will be another disaster like the New N Tasty was. There was this 30min long in-depth analysis video on YT that described just about everything that was wrong with the remake.
Lorne has said he's not going through kickstarter because he probably wouldn't be able to raise the amount needed to do a brand new Oddworld game properly will all the RnD that goes into creating all the new mechanics that come with an "Oddysee" title. He also doesn't want a publisher because publishers are meddling cunts. Instead he's looking to raise the money himself.
He put the original games on Steam, then did HD ports of SW and MO. Now they're doing remakes of the Abe games. Each project is slightly bigger than the last one and is slowly working towards the scale of a brand new game.

Why hasent REmake set the standard for any remake? It was literally RE1 perfected. All we want is Oddworld with better resolution, textures, sound and quality of life changes to the gameplay.
The best thing i can say about New N Tasty is that you can talk to every mudoken at once like in Exoddus.

It looks just fine and the animation was fine. It was basically the first game. I played Odyssey and Exodus when they came out. Same games, same problems, except I guess with new and tasty you can easily save scum.
Well... I think you had to use the joystick, and that does leave a little bit of lag time in the controls, not much, it isn't that bad really, and it doesn't always matter, but there are instances where you need to stop on a dime and it can be annoying, but it isn't enough to hurt the game or keep it from being an extremely faithful remake.
True enough, the art direction changed some, some aspects lose their very grim and gritty nature, but the game looks so much better, I think New and Tasty is just fine. Then again, back on PS oddworld, while it was popular back then, was never really my thing. I thought some-- too many-- of the puzzles were just obnoxious try and die.

Finally, the New N Tasty is garbage. The gameplay is butchered with the following camera + the new, inaccurate movements. The visuals are 2nd grade and ruin the atmosphere. The cutscenes are a real downgrade, and VA is hard to hear. Plus they just had to jam in ads for their other games.
They really, really, really should have just kickstarted a new Oddworld game, rather than going this slow and convoluted route of remaking and porting the old games while pissing off a lot of old fans in the process.
What you are asking for is a remaster, New'n'Tasty was an actual remake.

I'm real tired of this guy's shit. He's had like 10 projects supposedly in the works for 10 years now and nothing has come of them because he just wants money. He threw a bitchfit back when Stranger's Wrath came out because it didn't make as much as he wanted, tried to sue EA for their cut of the profits since they published it, and then said he'd never make another game again. Then he tried to make movies and fell flat on his face, only to come crawling back to games with the promise that if New and Tasty sold 10 million he'd make a new game. Exoddus is by far the better one from a gameplay perspective because it's about twice as long, much more complex puzzles with more mechanics and fixed most of the annoyances with gameplay (you can talk to multiple Mudukons at once etc....).
But Oddysee has much better atmosphere and story.
On release the controls were actually terrible.
Run wasn't a toggle anymore but depended on how far you pushed the analogue stick, and jumping was way harder than it should be.
But both were given options to return to the original controls in an update later (by the time it released on PC/Xbone it was already in the game)
That is 100% false. EA was not the bad guy in that situation, Lorne got greedy and then tried to screw them after they gave him the money he needed to make the game. He expected it to sell 50 million copies (in 2005 that was unheard of) and when it didn't he filed a lawsuit against EA basically saying he was entitled to their share since it didn't make as much as he expected. He got BTFO because that held no water.
I played through all of New n' Tasty and didn't have a problem with it. It was fine. If they made Oddysee with New n' Tasty's engine, I'd be OK with that.

Munchs Oddysee and New N Tasty completly destroyed the dark humour and dark atmosphere of Abes Oddysee and Abes Exoddus. They had the balance between slapstick humour, dark humour, and gore just right in them.
you can't actually get enough money to make a game with decent production values like oddworld used to have through kickstarter. You basically have to lie, overproject and delay to get enough money to make something slightly below par because the public has unrealistic expectations of what games actually take to develop.
They gave the game absolutely no marketing budget which is the thing that actually makes games sell. I was a huge fan of Oddworld since the PS1 Demo Disc 1, I bought an Xbox so I could play Munch's Oddysee and I didn't even figure out Stranger's Wrath existed until I found it rummaging through the bargain shelf at a Kmart or something. Stranger's Wrath didn't sell because EA didn't want it to sell so they could buy out Oddworld Inhabitants and destroy it like they did to so many development studios in the decade between 1995-2005.
False. See Divnity: Original Sin, Wasteland 2, Pillars of Eternity, Shadowrun Returns. All great games, all great looking games (maybe not Wasteland 2 in that regard) all funded and produced successfully through kickstarter because they were handled by competent humans, not fucking hacks like Schafer.
haven't played divinity, but you're not seeing the difference between "great looking games" and "high production values". Lots of FMV cutscenes is one of them. Of course you can look back at Abe then and say that wouldn't cost much to produce now which is partially true, but he'd probably want to make a full 3D game with lots more high quality animation for a new oddworld game and you just aren't going to get the money to do that through kickstarter.

It's common knowledge that EA (and all the big publishers) deliberately push out games with no marketing budget, knowing full well they're going to flop because of it. They do this so it puts the developer in a place where they're pretty much forced to accept a buyout (at a price that's a fraction of what they're actually worth because this is done post-flop).
If Lorne hadn't had an independent audit of his company to prove that EA was up to some real shady shit, EA would own Oddworld right now.
Lorne is still somewhat at fault for the shit that's happened with the company though, what with betraying an entire consumer base and jumping ship to another, entirely new system without so much as a "sorry". He had to move to Xbox because at the time Sony did not give a single shit about smaller western developers. At the time Kutaragi was still in charge of Playstation and he was famously close-minded. PS2 dev kits were extremely difficult to develop for, specs were changing every month and all the technical support was in japanese. If you're a small western developer, that environment could sink you completely. Microsoft offered a brach and Lorne took it.

I had heard the AO remake was really good but it just felt like shit to me, a total waste of money. There wasn't even an option to change the controls back to the original ones, which are now baked into my brain.
