I think that a problem of Resident Evil that often gets overlooked is this kind of shit, the procedural fucking up of story and characters.

I fucking HATE these anime-tier characters and stories.

Fucking hell, marcus in re0, sergei and that fucking colombian in re chronicles 1&2, natalia in rev2, that guy with the red hair in rev1, fucking carla and simmons in re6, etc

I used to love the fact that the story in the older games was grounded in reality and that it was something that could happen, it was all biology, not fuckin virus magic

The story is so far gone Capcom just doesn't give a shit anymore. It broke at Code Veronica and just spiraled downward from there.

I personally love it. I wanted it to go in the direction of schlock. It was always an homage to Romero movies, which eventually also turned to generic retarded shit. It's like poetry.

I'm not an anime fan so I'm not sure what you mean by the characters/stories become too anime-like, but I will agree that Marcus in RE0 looks so fucking out of place it's ridiculous. He's designed like a Final Fantasy villain. I thought this game was about brilliant viral researchers unleashing hell, not a K-Pop star pretty boy made of leeches.

I played Leon and Chris's campaign in RE6 then dropped it for REMake
