When the game first came out I kept hearing about all these other awesome weapons.

I kept getting disappointed and going back to the axe.
Some other weapons were fun but it just clicked with me, also people running around a corner into a spin2win only to try to go full defense with their gun after getting scared never got old.

Should I buy the dlc? I was thinking about getting it and making a fresh character.

The DLC is the best thing to ever happen to the game, definitely get it. You might even find a weapon that you like more than the axe, since there are a couple in the DLC that handle similarly to the tricked axe but with wildly different effects and patterns.
