So what are you naming your Shovel Knight amiibo?
You... you ARE getting one... right?
>>323167249
I'm not into toys for about 11 years ty
>>323167419
>>323167249
Is shovel knight worth playing?
Or is it another meme game like Undertale
>>323167249
Nah, I only buy amiibo if the character is from a good game.
>>323167249
>need to buy amiibo for coop
Nah fuck you guys.
I know fuck-all about amiibos.
What can they do? Can you get the Shovel Knight in some game when you buy it?
>>323167249
Every time I see this fucker, I'm reminded of how terminally cancerous Shovelfags were during the whole Smash Ballot hullabaloo. Then I remember how much they got BTFO in the end and I smile.
>>323167556
If it is not Western AAA then it is meme.
That includes Jap games and Indies.
>>323167249
I'd buy a Plague Knight oneI may try to get one.
>>323167637
It lets you play co-op mode. That's it. It's a physical paywall for what ought to be a standard feature.
>>323167556
Just got it for 3ds. worth picking up. Fun, but very difficult as the game progresses.
>>323167798
Well that fucking sucks.
This console gen is disappointing as hell.
>>323167637
The Smash Bros amiibos can be used to train up a "figure player": basically, a computer-controlled fighter that learns as it fights.
Many of the Smash Bros amiibos can also be used to unlock cosmetics in other games, such as Mii outfits in Mario Kart, or paintjobs for planes in Ace Combat.
There's a line of Mario character amiibos separate from the Smash Bros versions (though they're cross-compatible) that can be used with Mario Party, and a line of Animal Crossing amiibo figures and cards that can apparently be used with Happy Home Designer and the new board game spinoff.
Nearly every amiibo except Shovel Knight and the Mii Fighter trio can also unlock Mystery Mushroom skins in Super Mario Maker, but you can also unlock them by playing the 100-Mario challenge mode (though since some skins are exclusive to the hard mode which is A LOAD OF BULLSHIT) you might be tempted to shell out money for the corresponding amiibo.
The Shovel Knight amiibo will apparently be compatible with future Yacht Club games.
>>323167798
>>323168180
No, that's not just it. You can unlock challenge stages with it, as well as customizing Shovel Knight with new relics and stuff.
David Spade
>>323168219
>No, that's not just it. You can unlock challenge stages with it, as well as customizing Shovel Knight with new relics and stuff.
So it's like physical DLC?
>>323167556
Its a 8/10 platformer
>>323168219
Sounds pretty shitty in all honesty. I recently picked up a Wii u and have had my 3ds for a while. Was considering getting some amiibo's but if that's all they do then fuck it, not worth it.
>Willingly buying amiibos.
I already have a fuckton of video games, no way I'm getting near they /toy/ swamp.
At least with video games I can justify it as an experience that might make me feel enriched afterwards.
>>323168329
Yep. So instead of 10 dollars and data it's 12, a figure and data instead.
Also possible uses with other games as well.
>>323168329
Pretty much, yeah.
Though most amiibo work with at least a few games so one amiibo gets you DLC for multiple games. Also, you still have a neat little figurine.
>>323168496
It's kind of a catch-22. If Nintendo limits amiibo functionality to cosmetics, people will complain that they're not worth buying. But if they make a game too amiibo-dependent, people will complain about having to shell out tons of money on amiibos.
>>323167249
Knovel Shight
does it include horse armor dlc?
will co-op come to pc at some point?
>>323167249
I already got it
Paint application is not nearly as good as I was hoping
Also it's $24 at a time when places are selling all the other ones at $4.
>>323167249
I dont name Amiibos if I dont have to. Not autistic : ^ )
>>323168969
>novel shite
ayyyy
>>323168878
Seems to me like the main selling point is that they're "collectible". People buy them to collect and display rather than over the dlc the amiibos give.
>>323169418
You have to enter a name when you register it.
No, reddit, I'm not getting your fucking Meme Knight shit.
>>323169548
BOY IS IT SWEET TO LINE 'EM UP LIKE THIS
>>323169548
Indeed. The irony is that Nintendo's new CEO thinks people are buying amiibo for the wrong reason. He wants the primary reason for purchase to be because they enhance the consumer's experience, but the majority of customers are buying them as collectibles.
>>323167637
They're shit dlc with the equivalence of a micro transactions in f2p game. Except now you have to buy a dumb plastic toy.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C3c_JDDp99k
Can you watch the whole thing?
on one hand, I like SK
on the other locking shit behind an amiibo that costs almost the same price as the game itself and acting like they're doing us a favor is fucking stupid
>>323170220
Still, it's a fuckin' Shovel Knight figurine.
>>323170086
I've probably watched it at least 8 times.
>>323169391
Here's a close up pic, I tried to pick one of the better painted ones but I noticed all of them were a little sloppier than I'm usually comfortable with. Mostly in the visor which on some of them seem painted off-centre.
>>323169548
Guilty as charged, I don't own a WiiU or a N3DS/adapter, I just like video game figures and for many amiibo this is the first/first widely available figure for that character. I imagine most amiibo collectors are that way since they do jack shit in most games and not even my nintendork friend cares much about training smash amiibo.
Whens the next wave of amiibos due anyways?
>>323169548
Meh. I have fun with it so I'm not complaining.
>>323167637
Right now the Shovel Knight amiibo works only in Shovel Knight, but Yacht Club has said he'll be compatible with future Yacht Club games and even some Nintendo games.
>>323170523
I remember playing Super Smash 64 as a kid and wishing I could have toys like that, the amiibos pretty much made that wish come true. It'd be so much better if the dlc was worth a damn but I still think they're cool.
>>323170725
>It'd be so much better if the dlc was worth a damn but I still think they're cool.
Again that's the problem, if the DLC is worth a damn people will complain that they have to buy them now.
>>323169548
Oh I just remembered, my anecdotal evidence of this: lining up outside a Target to get the exclusive Gold Mario amiibo: pretty much does nothing and is only a collector's item but the massive line of people consisted of neckbeards, nerdy teens, confused parents and even normal-looking schoolkids ditching school to get one. I bet approximately zero of these people will ever actually use that gold mario in the one game it does anything for.
>>323170725
I did too, and in fact at the time it came out I remember Red Rooster had Mario-themed happy meal toys. Because the characters included Mario, Yoshi and Donkey Kong many of us assumed these were Smash Bros tie-in figures and played with them as such.
>>323170220
The price does upset me, especially when all the other amiibo were on sale for $4. Like, fuck man, it's almopst double the price of every other amiibo. But I'm okay with buying it cuz Ipirated the game
>>323170725
>Smash 64
You remember wrong. The trophie/figures were melee. They were plush dolls in a toychest in 64.
>>323168878
There doesn't have to be a Catch-22 though. Why not just focus on making a line of high quality figures of Nintendo characters? They don't have to do shit for games but people would still buy them anyways since there's clearly demand for it. Square has its Play Arts figures, I don't see why Nintendo can't focus on making something good since most amiibos look like garbage.
>>323167556
It's fun. Get it, especially if you like Megaman.
>>323171116
Them working with video games is actually very important to their success. No matter if you use them in games or not amiibo would have never gotten as popular as they would have without the functionality. Nintendo is already putting out a World of Nintendo line of toys and they aren't nearly as popular.
Besides, the Smash support is great.
>>323167556
It's a meme game. It features all the current memes very prominently.
>>323167556
Well I think it's fantastic, but I also really enjoyed Undertale so hell if I know.
>console exclusive DLC mulitplayer
>paying $15 for multiplayer
And I thought EA was bad
>want to leave them in the box
>they started putting foil under the amiibos so you can't scan them without removing the foil
Yeah naw ninty knows exactly what they are doing.
>>323171961
The Xbone and PS4 for exclusive content too.
The PS4 got a boss battle with Kratos, and the Xbone got a boss battle with the fucking Battletoads.
>>323170723
>and even some Nintendo games.
No, nerd
>>323171116
>>323168878
See, the best of both worlds would be if Nintendo bites the bullet and just full-frontal rips-off Skylanders with just one amiibo-based game. Like, pay Sakurai to use the Smash 4 assets to make a singleplayer/co-op focused Smash with a Subspace Emissary campaign using amiibos as characters, including a few new characters based on non-smash amiibos (I'd be okay with simplifying characters to have smaller movesets if it means adding more characters).
The problem with >>323171116 is that while you're right that we want high quality figures, Nintendo already make (or rather license) those figures and they're usually expensive. I recently got SH Figuarts Lucario, shit is a million times better than an amiibo but it retails for ~$50 versus the $14 or so an amiibo goes for (and on that note, there is a Bayonetta Play Arts line so we can compare that to what the amiibo will eventually look like). There are high quality Nintendo figures from Figuarts and Figma but these are outside of the range of the kind of collector Nintendo wants to aim for, the casuals and semi-normies like in >>323171026
It still to this day baffles me that they did the crossover with Skylanders and they didn't just pay Activision a gorillion dollars to get one of the Skylander teams (there's two so they can make games annually) to make the amiibo game for them or just make one themselves. If they were really lazy they could just reskin New Super Mario bros to be New Super Nintendo Bros and it's just the same game but with crossover-themed levels and characters.
>>323172082
Did you have to pay for those?
>>323172039
People were using the boxes in store on their 3DS without paying. So of course they put foil under.
Shantae and Lilac amiibos fucking when
>>323172096
>We plan to continue support of the Shovel Knight amiibo in future Yacht Club Games and Nintendo products!
>>323172363
>>323172459
>Nintendo products
>Not Nintendo games
They mean the 3DS and Wii U that reads the amibo
>>323172363japan only
>>323172540
Nintendo products include Nintendo games. If they just meant systems they would have phrased it like this
>We plan to continue support of the Shovel Knight amiibo in future Yacht Club Games on Nintendo products!
>>323172696
Keep being delusional. I'm sure he's going to be in smash bros soon too, right?
>>323172696
At best that probably just means shit like Hyrule Warriors giving you a random item/rupee for scanning any amiibo.
>>323172213
I think they only care because they know their integration is shit. Skylanders 3DS lets you keep characters once scanned and the handheld portal is small and runs on batteries, but all Skylanders can be used out of the box because they've gone on record and acknowledged the die-hard collectors. They created "chase variants" to pander/exploit that audience, really rare skylanders that are painted differently but the difference is only on the figure, the chip is the same chip as in any common figure. That's beneficial to normal consumers since it's not like Golden and Silver Mario amiibos that unlock unique content yet are just rare repaints.
>>323167556
Undertale is about "le narrative experience" and dialogue while Shovel Knight is just an NES-styled platformer. I think it's pretty fun because I like platformers.
>>323167798
>>323168329
This is probably an unpopular opinion, but I like the idea of physical DLC. Because
A) The physical object is usually nice by itself
B) The physical DLC can be resold and shared with your friends
C) Being an object, it is not tied to online accounts or internet connections or anything (I've had bad experiences with early 360 DLC license shit)
>>323167913
It isn't really that hard. I suck at these types of games and I beat it.
>>323167556
It's a generic 8 bit indie platformer that combines Zelda 2 and Megaman.
No.
>>323173670
It's not even 8bit because their artists aren't talented enough to work with that limitation
>>323173775
Oh yeah. I forgot to put it in quotes.
I wish Amiibo didn't exist.
>>323167556
Is your pic related worth playing? i got it on steam sale but have not try it yet.
Bold and Brash
>>323173670
> generic
> a combination of Zelda 2 and Megaman
I don't think you know what the word generic means.
>>323167249
>mfw got the last one from Target at opening without a pre-order
>>323173906
What game do you think his is a picture of? For Honor isn't out yet.
>>323167249
Dick Showez
So wait, i dont get it, is he out yet or not?
>>323173670
>Zelda 2
Oh good so you haven't played it. Its Mega man, Castlevania and Ducktales.
Is the update live yet for NA? Picked one up this morning but it doesn't seem to give me an amiibo option.
>>323167249
I ordered one two months ago.
Never got one. Which I find weird since we've never had amiibo shortages here before.
I guess it's because it's not a Nintendo made one.
>>323174581
oh i tought it was Chivalry.
>>323174581
>Shovel Knight amiibo came out today
>the update that lets you use it with the game didn't
>>323175583
Chiv is fun, but it got updated into oblivion. It's also full of try-hards.
One of the most OP weapons in the game is a stick; process that.
>>323167556
Just get in on pc. There are lots of trainers everywhere.
>>323176019
wait.
WAIT.
its today?
>>323167249
got 2 named one omg and havent touched the other yet
>see this thread
>remember amiibos exist
>all online retailers are fucked
>local gamestop has stock
>get last one with no fuss
cool
i mean, i'm not going to re-buy shovel knight for the wii u, but the trinket is nice
>>323167249
>>323176019
>>323175436
What stores have it in NA? It's out right now or won't realistically be out til this weekend or something?
>>323177293
I woke up at 10 (when it opened) and best buy had 4 left. good luck. the usual retailers should have had them. maybe not walmart because their stock is usually shit
>>323176886
>>323177293
I'm looking at mine right now. There should still be time to get one today.
