IT'S OVER, HALF-LIFE IS FINISHED
Half-Life 3 is never coming out!
Just let it die already.
At this point they certainly dont need to, with all the money from hats and steam itself.
The only reason why they would start working on a new half life that i could think of would be simple boredom. People over at valve getting tired of dota, maintaining steam and porting community mods so the company decides to make another half life to keep everyone happy, give the employees something to do, and prevent burnout.
i dont think their writers do anything but flavor text for cs and dota at this point
they probably spend most days as glorified secretaries filling out webpages and bullshit other people cant be assed to fully write out
>HALF-LIFE IS FINISHED
It's probably not coming anyway, but if it was then it wouldn't be delayed by this. It's not like the hold up is because of the story. That's probably already been worked out ages ago.
SHIT whos gonna write gordon freemans dialogue now?
In this case their biggest enemy is their infamous corporate structure.
No one can really sit down and go "We start working on Ep3, now." People just have to sort of get in the mood for it and everyone in the office sort of gets swept up in the hubbub.
HL3 is never happening, ever. There is no desire within the company to make it happen. Microtransactions for their existing games are far more profitable in terms of cost/benefit, and Valve's flat management structure makes them much simpler to churn out.
Why make a full, traditional game that would cost millions of dollars, take years of development, make a marginal profit and which will never live up to the expectations people have for it, when they could spend a week making a hat or gun skin which will probably make millions?
>"We have brought on a new writer to replace the one we have lost"
>Barney gets a sex change
>one of the cutscenes is Alyx asking you to prep the bull as she brings a burly black man into the room
>game never ported to the Wii U
Probably left cause nothing was being done
Marc probably wanted to make games but couldn't rally anyone
He's only 2 years older than gabe. Gabe wouldn't sack someone that instrumental and would prefer keeping them around.
i smile like that at everybody on the street, god damn i hate niggers so much
There is nothing they could bring to the half life series that hasnt been done to death by the already oversaturated fps genre across all platforms. The real reason they never did half life 3? Because it would have been generic shit. So now that it's dead you can all shut the fuck up.
No, the pretend half-life was the greatest thing of all time because it was a pc exclusive meme is still going. you pcucks cling to your dead franchises like wiggas cling to tupac and biggie holy shit. that orange box shit on xbox does not count.
it hurts but its true, what were they ever going to do with half life 3 that we hadnt seen? there was nowhere to take the series. i expect that even if it had have been more of the same you would all love it anyway i suppose.
>"terrible" companies like Sony and Microsoft nickel and dime consumers with over-priced hardware and shitty always-online services
>they use some of that money to help develop games
>hated for wanting exclusivity deals despite them being more forgiving than publishers when it comes to individual vision
>an "amazing" company like Valve nickel and dimes consumers with over-priced hardware and shitty always-online services
>they spend all the money on Gaben's knife collection and answer to no-one because they have a complete effective monopoly on a supposedly "open" platform, if your game isn't on Steam you'll sell one one-hundredth of the copies you would have otherwise
>all actual content creators start jumping ship if they have any kind of self-respect, the rest stay because they just want a paycheck for sitting around at the snack bar all day and then shitting out some more cards for the marketplace
>Valve is considered the best company in the industry, that "saved" PC gaming from the overwhelming hassle of entering CD keys and installing patches
Most people don't know this, but Gabe used to work for Microsoft. He's a fat Jew who only cares about money. Making video games was never a priority to him. It was always about the money.
You fags spent years of your life worshiping someone who didn't even deserve it.
Not a big surprise.
Antonov (the guy who worked on HL2 art style) left years ago, and he spilled the beans, saying they weren't making big projects anymore.
>"Valve is a great place, but I'm interested in projects, not in companies. I went to Valve specifically for Half-Life 2. I went and I collaborated with Arkane to do The Crossing and Dishonored. I put the project above everything else.
>"Valve has grown into a much bigger company," he went on, "and what I really enjoy about the philosophy of Arkane is that it's a small, core team that does risky creative projects. And when I went to Valve, they were a small company. They've grown now, they're much bigger, and I'm interested in a certain level of creative risk taking and a certain energy that can be compared to jazz, jamming or rock n' roll, where it's small, it's intense and it's about making revolutions in the media."
you know, most of laidlaw's work was done on the Original Half-Life. They didn't even consult him for Half-Life 2 until they wanted him to review what they had already wrote.
"Old Man Laidlaw" is right. He hasn't done serious one-man writing since half life 1 in 199-fucking-8.
I'd just like to say that there's a chance this wouldn't have fucking happened if people hadn't been giant retards and paid VALVe more for hats than they had for the actual game.
So many people say "well I can do what I want with my money" but show some fucking responsibility for it, alright? If you give VALVe 500 dollars for hats but 20 bucks for games, for all intents and purposes you're telling them "stop making those shitty fucking games I love these pixels I can put on my man's head"
Of course I'm not saying that you're not allowed to pay for hats, I'm just saying you have no right to be surprised or even upset when stuff like this happens when you do.
The VALVe fanbase has nobody to blame but themselves.
It's basic human psychology. There are basically dozens of major issues with gaming.
With F2P mechanics, it's all about making your game either incredibly easy, or P2W. Both of those attract whales.
With hats, they added whales and kikes to an existing game, with dramatic results. They turned the game into a complete joke. Long gone were the days where you could co-ordinate your team on any level.
But hey, more people play it now that it's free, and it makes more money than ever! It's a win/win for Valve and retards.
Just throw in more cool science tools and engines. Anyway, you're basically saying that the entire FPS genre is done, I'm sure there are plenty things to improve on, especially since half life has had fucking everything(normal fps gameplay, big assaults, vehicles, puzzles, platforming, horror). It's not limited in any way, they could have done pretty much anything.
Didn't it get leaked from a reputable source that Half Life 3 is basically in development hell like 6 months ago? That they have a skeleton crew experimenting with ideas and thats about it?
This would be pretty in line with that.
Way too many irresponsible consumers who don't think how their purchasing choices affects things. "It's my money, it's the price of a coffee and a sandwich, what are you poor". Gay ben said it himself during the paid mod fiasco, money is how the community steers work. There's far more money in creating worthless content in F2P video games than making a good single player game.
It's a shame how maximising profit is the inevitable goal of all reasonably large companies. It'd be nice if companies, especially private companies like Valve, would use money as a means of enabling creation rather than the end itself. But it's how it is. A lot of fanboys probably assumed that they would because they were fooled by obvious propaganda. Stuff like "oh you can work on whatever you want at Valve, and the guys at Valve will want to make HL3" as if there isn't a massive incentive there to work on profitable projects, just like anywhere else.
The moral is to stop buying fucking TF2 hats, CSGO knives and other completely worthless shit if you want Valve to actually make games and not vehicles for microtransactions.
Oh they only try it on their turf. If say a black person is on white turf they get stared at by whites with a what are you doing here look. Blacks stare at others like they're looking for a fight on their turf. No one gets along here.
Mate, there is almost no story in Half-Life, lets be real, this is no 700+ page long book trilogy, its a basic story about aliens invading the place and a resistance trying to stop them with mary sue like silent protagonist that keeps the mostly incompetent idiots in line with his amazingness.
Anybody can write this shit, lets hope its not anthony or anybody like it, but other than that, its hard to fuck it up.
black people in america are truly cancerous.
i'm just so happy other countries have it normal, with normal black people and african-descent culture instead of wanna-be-hip-hop-gangsta-im-african-american shit black people in america think is legitimate.
That's it, then. If Marc is gone, then, well, that's it. It's over, and we're done. There will be no Half Life 3.
I've delayed my suicide for years so I could play Half Life 3. I'm done though. It's time for me to go, /v/. Seeya
I hope you feel bad for being this autistic
Comics, flavor text, "funny" blog posts, making coffee for the legal department. They have at least 3 other writers AFAIK. But thinking about it, what do most of the people at Valve do now? They surely have a lot of game development staff whose particular skills are never needed because they don't even make the assets for their games anymore.
>Mass Effect 3 turned out fine with the change in writers
Yep, same shit with other games/series. The people who love them and would like to see a sequel didn't simply vanish, it's just that a new, way bigger market share showed up, so it's better to make games or cosmetics for them instead of the now niche market.
Sure anon. But he didn't.
>how do you know this
Search your feelings, you know it to be true.
It's better to be a pessimist in these situations anon.
Fuck Half-Life 3, I want a sequel to THIS already.
Fuck, this is some great news to wake up to.
I sincerely hope so.
Because the writing in Half-Lifes have been so fucking good and essential to begin with.
>I have been feeling a need for a break from the collaborate chaos of game production
But Valve hasn't made a game in years. What is he really saying here?
How many of the people who were originally involved with HL are still at Valve? At a certain point once the key talent is gone, it's gone. Whatever product they produce will essentially be made by a different studio.
In other words, Valve is done making games.
HAIL GABEN, am i right?
>implying 9gag is still relevant
Still, all three websites are tightly connected in our culture and userbases. It really shouldn't be surprising that people who frequent niche discussion websites happen to use our favorite niche website too.
Reddit helped me learn about book piracy, so I can't hate them anymore.
I loved Valve for a time when they actually made games, but they are pretty much dead atm, just like Nintendo and Konami.. Fuck this world.
never meet your heroes and never love a video game company.
>downvoted to record levels for stating the obvious truth
Reddit, ladies and gentlemen.
>posting this image in effort to make us hate the guy speaking simple truths
Reddit, ladies and gentlemen.
That guy only worked on HL2 and what kind of plot does HL2 even have?
>Gordon is back
>Stormtroopers from outta space are everywhere
>also old enemies
>generic Empire vs Rebel plot
>''Come to the Dark Side Freeman!''
The strong points of HL2 were the world design and the new direction approach with Source. If they made a direct sequel to that it would disappoint.
I met Schwarzenegger once, he was a pretty cool guy. But you are probably right.
>The hype for HL3 has grown too big.
Hype? Maybe there once was but it's dwindled to the point that all we have now is a few people sperging over potential ARGs or conspiracies. It's basically just become a curiosity.
They have though. At least once a year for about five or six years after Episode 2, Valve/Gabe would get asked about the next game in the series and their answer was always "we have nothing new to say." Couple that with the fact that they haven't been to E3 in years and you can connect the dots.
They were supposed to be working on a new engine too. What happened with that?
It's not true, no. We're still going to get Half-Life 3, it'll be just as good as I hoped it would be.
My girlfriend just suddenly sent me an email today saying that she wants to cut all ties with me and never talk to me again, and that she isn't going to explain why.
Stop inadvertently hitting home way to hard with your posts, anon. I can't take it.
Things were going great, we'd never even fought or argued. And then suddenly, "My life has had changes and is still changing, this is part of it. It's a long story, but I'm cutting all contact with you and moving."
Mine cut and run 2 years ago, found out today she's back with her ex somewhere across fucking california, oh and she was cheating on both of us at the same time. Probably cheating on him right now
What a great person that was
No they definitely did. They didn't make nearly as much money on Portal 2 as they have on CSGO, TF2, or Dota 2.
Singleplayer games aren't worth it for Valve anymore, the passion is dead and it's all about making more money now.
Maybe. I find it hard to believe because she was super Conservative, appreciated Christian values, anti-social, and pretty clingy.
But I don't know anymore. Last I talked to her we were completely normal. Then she disappeared on me for a week, disconnected phone, no replies to emails. And this morning at 3AM I got an email saying she moved to another state and never wants to see me ever again but "It's nothing against you, it's just the way things are."
I don't know what to think.
Hey I know that feel, I got dumped the day after christmas and she told me she wanted to find herself and that I did nothing wrong, I was sad for a day but I now feel even stronger from my sadness and I don't care too much about her now.
Yeah It's a pain but hey what can I do about it, it's her choice. I took care of her and helped her with a lot of her problems. I just hope that if she realizes she wants to come back I might not be wanting to be with her anymore. I can always find someone better and if not i'll just keep on having fun with my hobbies/passions.
>I was sad for a day but I now feel even stronger from my sadness and I don't care too much about her now.
I hope the same goes for me, anon. I really thought she was the one, I'd never met a human being that I clicked with so perfectly. She was uncompromisingly everything I wanted from a woman.
The best thing you can do is talk to your friends about it senpai, you can always move on and become stronger. If you feel like you did nothing wrong than that's good, take it as a learning experience for the next girl even if it takes a while for love to come you can always work on improving yourself and having fun with your friends since you're single now you can do whatever whenever.
Are you implying that it was impossible for Duke Nukem Forever to meet the expectations? Because it really wasn't, all they had to do was make a good fps with dirty jokes, instead they made an fps with regenerating health, two weapon carry limit, forced driving sections and poop jokes.
Douk was bad because they stopped development, retook development, stopped it again, scrapped it all and started from scratch, then they repeated that process five or so times and then Gearbox had their team rush out the latest unfinished version out to grab some cash.
I honestly can't say if Episode 3 / HL3 is going to be shit or great, from all the information that's been 'leaked', I still can't imagine how it could turn out.
>The best thing you can do is talk to your friends about it
But she was the only friend I still have.
>avatar fagging and blogging with lain
hang yourself right nao
>worshiping the corpse of a once great hero, expecting their praise would resurrect it.
Freeman confirmed as God Emperor.
So basically a guy who has been sitting behind a desk not really doing anything for the past 15 years has retired from Valve?
Half-Life 3 obviously wasn't going to happen, anyway. it SURPASSED the Duke Nukem line and left it in the dust. If Valve ever gets the gumption to actually do anything it'll be another Left4Dead (lazy braindead shootan), Team Fortress 3 (now on Source 2, a new game with new hats to buy!) or dota3 (autistic fanbase won't quite dota2 and it'll flop, flop like a modern Blizzard game)
You do realize DNF was only really in development for one or two years at most, right? When it actually entered serious development (after literally being shuffled around between companies for a decade), it was by a team that didn't realize how miserable a state it was in, and before they could get out of it they were stuck in a contract to produce a piece of shit. Don't act like DNF was a labor of love that the original team spent over a decade producing and just couldn't "live up to the hype", because that couldn't be more wrong.
