Afraid Of Monsters: Director's Cut was spookier, if not technically less impressive. I do give CoF credit for demonstrating what's really possible with GoldSrc engine, and for its oldschool survival horror tribute feel.

Underhell:Chapter 1 (HL2 mod) was easily my 2013's GOTY. Came out from the woods for me, and offered a fancy mixture of FEAR, Penumbra, and even some MGS, in a neat, fun to play set. The gibbing reminded me of SoF2, and it has some of the most satisfying shotguns in history. Pretty long campaign too, and there's technically two of them!

If you played and liked STALKER: SoC, you should give the original AMK1.4 a spin. It restores cut content, unleashes AI restrictions, making the Zone less predictable and more dangerous, and also ups the difficulty with deadlier weapons and anomalies.

I loved AoF:DC. Still, Cry Of Fear held up graphically well. The amount of work Team Psykskallar put into it is impressive.

The good:
>old school inventory and puzzles
>nice graphics for GoldSrc
>pretty comfy for a horror game
>some neat enemy designs

The bad:
>main character is an insufferable self-insert
>story makes no fucking sense
>deliberately edgy is every respect, covers just about every point on the edgy spectrum
>boss fights are garbage, final boss being the worst offender
>enemies can be cheesed to hell and back, always getting stuck on geometry and forgetting where you are

The worst part is the hardest difficulty is limited to 5 saves. How is that "difficulty", that's just being a cunt

I've beaten the campaign mode and the wave based on the hardest difficulty. Just requires a lot of running around and using the axe. Verisons 2.0 and 2.5 of suicidal are impossible to beat.
