This fucking hack gets 6k a month already from patreon by doing shitty, unfunny and uninformative videos on youtube. Why are retards paying for youtube videos?
>People support someone out of their own free will
Oh no people enjoy something you don't like and are helping that thing exist and provide more entertainment for the people that like it! Better go fucking complain on /v/ and use obvious bait words!
If you wanted a discussion you would say that you find it absurd that he receives money on patreon.
But you had to insult him and the people that enjoy him.
>Why are retards paying for youtube videos?
They're paying for their entertainment so they can receive more. It's no different from people paying for cable television, or paying to go to the cinema. If you don't like it you're free to ignore it.
> No question mark
> No capitilisation of names
> Insinuating I even like E-Celebs
> Calling everybody a 'redditor'
> Getting this mad over words
You're legitimately the cancer that kills 4chan.
You need to kill youself.
If not for us, do it for your parents who are ashamed to have spawned such a little faggot from their loins.
Mark tries to be funny but fails miserably
His revies are uninformative, he likes every game
/v/ only likes him because he is old and they have daddy issues
>Mark repeatedly cites 1984 as his favourite Van Halen album
Shit taste tbqh familia
Classic Game Room is comfy as fuck, I marathon through them while playing slower paced RPGs. Out of all the Youtubers I'm glad he's making bank especially since I now don't feel the need to.
I like Mark because I actually find interesting shit through him. I never would have known about half of those weird import Dreamcast shooters or stuff from the Master System because I'm not a weeb.
Mark got me interested in buying a Dreamcast. After watching his videos I found out how great it was and how many hidden gems there were for the system.
I did get a Dreamcast in 2011, but I've only got the well known games for the system.
the guy literally has a real job offer and only put up the pateron because fans begged for it
he set the levels to be what he would need to get to ignore the offer and continue the show and he was straight up about all of that
Dunno, personally I do like his positive attitude to video games. Occasionally you just neeed something not filled with swear words and piss-poor analogies on how much a game sucks.
Not implying that Mark's 80's refrences are witty or funny, but sometimes a break from being cynical and jaded towards vidya gets exhausting.
Example; Battlefront 2015 review was bullshit due to him failing to acknowledge the poor design choices associated with that game, but watching him play while having fun and admit that he genuinely enjoys it still made the video enjoyable to watch.
He's not making enough money to continue doing this full time without it. He was initially just going to be lower his video output. But he was asked by fans to use Patreon.
Mark did nothing wrong. Stop being so presumptuous.
I see it as him not insulting the viewers intelligence
his footage shows the same maps over and over and anyone with a pulse already knew about the lack of content since it was announced
he basically said if you like star wars you might like battlefront and showed you some of his gameplay
Most of the games, yes.
Not the filming/editing equipment. For instance, his main camera just broke last month, so he needs a new one. Plus he has to pay for the studio space. Unlike the majority Youtube people, he's actually trying to do a professional job with his videos. He puts hours of work into every single video. That costs money.
And he's trying to make a living at this. If he were just trying to do it as a hobby (as he said he was going to do back in November), he wouldn't need to ask for money. But people literally begged him to start a Patreon so he could keep the show going on a regular basis.
$10K/mo. is reasonable if this is his full-time job. Remember, that's $120K/year GROSS, not net. I'd expect his expenses are probably at least $3K a month.
Again, remember that he's not some random basement-dweller with a webcam. Given his qualifications, he could probably be making at least that much doing something else, and it'd be stupid for him to keep doing this if it weren't going to pay him something like what he could be making elsewhere.
You too, foo'. If Spanked didn't have such a terrible chorus, it'd be neck and neck with the debut in my books.
5150 is really good too, but putting Inside at the end as kind of novelty song was a mistake. OU812 is half great shit that suffers from terrible production, half total garbage. Balance is 90% crap.
I don't really like Diver Down as a whole, but Full Bug and Little Guitars are two of the absolute best Roth-era songs.
i'd rather him get money then some memer youtuber
I actually like his reviews
He finds fun in practically anything, which is how i often roll, despite being a cynical ass about 99% of vidya. So listening to him reminds me to try and be less cynical
I hear the "uninformative" complaint a lot but Mark primarily reviews simplistic Arcade games. And really now any seasoned gamer should pick up quickly whether they'll enjoy a Shmup or an NES game just by watching gameplay.
I agree Mark only gives a general look at a game but that's why he rarely reviews RPGs which actually need a thoughtful review.
>you think people on YouTube put out quality content?
Mark is the exception, though.
And it's why he can't afford to continue on the ad-based model.
It's also why he's worth supporting, IMO.
Mark is the anti-pewdepie.
>hating on based Mark
He makes the world's comfiest video reviews.
I don't care that his reviews aren't even in-depth.
He provides a level of comfort that other reviewers can't.
If I wanted depth, I'd go to people like SuperBunnyHop or whatever.
He enjoys video games. Which is more then I can say about most people here, and on YouTube.
Still I think in the long run, if he has to do 3 to 6 reviews a week, he'll get burnt out.
>Still I think in the long run, if he has to do 3 to 6 reviews a week, he'll get burnt out.
I expect it will depend on how much he has to worry about money. He was fine in the past with that level of output, it was when the money started drying up and he had to start laying people off that you could see it getting to him.
How did he even get interested in their stuff? He doesn't know Japanese, so I doubt he played any of the Super Famicom Megaten games, but he also seems too old to have picked it up with Persona.
For one, he actually enjoys things and seems happy, rather than a massive self hating train wreck like a lot of reviewers /v/ seems to like. I just watch RockCock64 if I want to see some angry jaded weirdo complain about games not being the same as when he was 12, but then playing nothing but modern kusoge.
Look at this handsome hard working mother fucker. Drink a beer. Dont watch that cuck avgn or that ugly fat pewdiepie clone. Have some class.
>Thinking that is bad
This piece of shit gets money for doing absolutely nothing. When was the last video game review? Three years ago? The last good shit he did was the first videos in the Ultima series, and that's it.
At least Mark does something to earn that income.
>they haven't done a navgtr video in 7 years
What the fuck happened to Retsupurae? They used to actually dig up interesting stuff instead of just making random jabs at people for mediocre videos.
Seems like even his fans have given up on him if he used to have 5K a month and has now dropped to 2.4K.
they kinda just do their own thing. I think it's kinda funny how off the radar they are for being credited for kinda making video LP a thing.
Slowbeef is doing a series on the different snatcher games with Diabeetus on his own channel, so there's something to check out.
And I like Spoony (or did when he was still making actual videos that weren't just him rambling about wrestling or tabletop RPGs).
I'd be fucking pissed if I'd given him any money, though. He's done just four videos since the end of September, and one of those was just a convention announcement.
This guy has a warehouse full of arcade games he owns.
He really doesn't need 6000 a month and is just fleecing his fanbase into having them think he needs this to produce a youtube of him playing all his arcade games.
People are stupid as shit. Spend the $50 a month and give it to someone who needs it.
6K isn't a set amount, Its simply what people are giving to him and can go up or down. I don't care about "People who need it" I'm not a charity. Mark produces entertainment I enjoy and I would gladly pay him for said entertainment.
Go to an arcade with fifty dollars in your pocket and you'll have an actual, firsthand experience instead of watching a guys Youtube video of him playing a donated cabinet.
If he was for his audience he'd set this up as an arcade instead of making it his own personal mecca. Hell, just having something a month or two. He's pretty much just biding his time until he can sell all the free shit given to him for a quarter million most likely.
I wouldn't support his amateur videos knowing it's a guise.
Yeah, because the studio is free and Mark's time is worth nothing.
Besides, he's only doing the Patreon because people begged him to. He didn't ask for money: people asked to give him money.
Also, most people are giving him $5/mo. or less. That's $60/year: the price of one new game. It's really not that much. There's only 23 people out of 775 giving him $50+/mo.
Mark is not a LPer.
Hopefully he can get to the $10K level at least so he doesn't have to lose the set.
>vinesauce at bottom
>dsp at the top
>lol its not b8 i swear
I'm just not going to support a guy who keeps a whole arcade to himself funded by his fans. And then he puts out a youtube for even more cash and that's expected to be some cultural or entertainment treasure.
So he makes a youtube video of a donated arcade machine he plays and it sits in his warehouse and the fans pay for said space to have it sit in his warehouse.
Hey if want to you finance this go ahead.
1. Many of us don't have ready access to many arcades these days. They aren't as common as they used to be. And arcades don't have console games or imports.
2. A lot of the stuff he reviews is hard-to-find and/or expensive.
3. Setting up an arcade would only benefit the handful of people who are local to him in Pennsylvania or who could afford to travel there.
You're a moron. It took six weeks of people repeatedly asking about Patreon before he finally broke down and did it.
I did. The point is that that whole conversation had gone off-topic for the thread. This not a thread about random LPers.
>it sits in his warehouse
Have you even watched any of his recent videos? They haven't been shooting out of the storage unit for a couple of years now. They have a regular studio.
Because he's not Spoony.
The guy is trying to make professional-quality videos, and that's what his fanbase wants.
No, frankly, he couldn't. For one thing, if he were that savvy, he'd have ordered more merch before pulling the plug on the store.
His fans made it possible because they wanted to see his videos. That's why people sent him games and systems over the years, and why they are backing the Patreon now: so they could see him make videos.
I understand. I just believe output could be so much more given that he was donated all these ultra rare arcade machines and money to have said space. A night every month for his fans to enjoy these seems like something his fans think is some ultimately impossible task however.
I'm not a fan or donate so my say must be worth shit but I just think it's all being severely underutilized all sitting in some guy's studio or warehouse for all being funded by public fanbase. This is just coming from an outsiders perspective.
>I just believe output could be so much more
He's been posting between three and six videos a week. How much more do you want?
>A night every month for his fans to enjoy these seems like something his fans think is some ultimately impossible task however.
How many of his fans are even local enough to enjoy it, though? And the ones who can afford to travel for something that frivolous could probably afford to assemble a decent arcade of their own.
>I just think it's all being severely underutilized
Honestly, you're just coming off as envious. Like you said, you're not even a fan, so why do you care? But whatever.
James and Mike also aren't trying to make a living solely off of AVGN. Besides, the basement fits the AVGN is a way it doesn't fit CGR. Hell, if AVGN were shot on a sound stage rather than in an actual basement, I'd expect them to utilize a basement set because it fits the show's milieu.
I would also dispute whether AVGN represents "great" videos, but that's a matter of taste. Personally, I find them amateurish, but that's more a matter of the crass humor than the production values per se.
Can anyone explain to me why he's needing that studio so badly?
His videos never been popular enough to justify renting it in the first place. And now, his patreon tiers are ridiculous just because he insists on keeping it.
Does it serve any purpose? I think if he just had a small space in his house dedicated to CGR it'd be just as good.... and fraction of the price.
10K a month just to shit out ~5 short videos a month about random games is fucking ridiculous if you ask me.
Mark is a conman. He played the long con. I guess it took 16 years but in the end it was worth it. He came up with a lovely character and now he's going to make thousands of dollars by just spewing his non opinions on games that get sent to him.
Envy and opinion are two different things.
I just believe arcade machines are meant to be played and enjoyed by groups of people, not stagnating in a random person's studio.
I'm glad museums don't work this way. They're pubic funded and rely on donations too. The difference is they don't lock their paintings in a room, and throw a youtube video out in the belief that is going above and beyond. I just don't believe in funding someone's personal showcase if that's mainly what it will end up as, youtube videos and all.
Look at the thread OP, there's quite a few people who believe this one way or the other. I'm just giving a basis as to why.
