>not getting an Oculus just to watch films
OP do you happen to know the certain specs a file should have to be viewed in the Cinema? Does the file need to be a certain resolution?
And it can play 3D SBS movies too right? Not just 2D? So a 3840x1080p movie would work?
This is both funny (in a pathetic way) and great at the same time.
>spend $600 on "virtual reality" face mounted television
>pretend to virtually watch movies in a theater alone
>from the shitty seats
Does oculus cinema have a No singles policy
>not already having the minimum GPU for PC games
I think it's more that devs need to pump out gimmicks as quickly as possible so people have something to do with their new units.
Side thought: I wonder if they made these things with drainage for tears?
They should release a paid version where tall people would always sit in front of you.
Then, for just $9,98 a month + Tax you could get the Deluxe Edition Premium Private Theater Deluxe.
>>I think it's more that devs need to pump out gimmicks as quickly as possible so people have something to do with their new units.
That specific program in op has been available since at least the DK2 came out
Anyone blind in one eye have any experience with the oculus? I've read things about how it can be a pain to set up or that it can get hard reading text and I was wondering if anyone else could share their experiences.
>in VR theater alone
>take a few minutes to find comfiest spot
>immerse yourself in comfiness
>see figure move out of the corner of your eye
>look but no one is there
VR has too much potential to scare the living shit out of me.
>room goes pitch black in dark scenes
Imagine watching a horror with this
>watching horror movie on the rift
>screen goes black into a scene transition and consequently the emulated cinema room is also dark
>another scene comes back up
>there's a monster right in your face, not just in the movie
>die of a heart attack with this jump scare of a whole new level
They are just asking for this to happen.
What's the fucking point? You're not gonna get the true cinema experience in the rift (acoustics, sound quality in general, and vibe) and you'd just be better off spreading out on the couch watching it on your tv with a decent sound system. You vr fags really are grasping at straws trying to justify why you're spending $600 on a one trick pony.
>not actually having your own home theater
>you could fill the cinema seats with all of your waifus
>spending $600 on some meme goggles
Kek. You could just spend 700 and have a 100-150 inch projector screen with 3D capability
Projectors are for fucking poorfags. Shitty quality and every owner boasts that it's "J-just like owning a big screen TV!" No it isn't. You're just a faggot who can't afford a decently sized TV.
Yeah 3D. Have you never been to a 3D movie theater or imax?
You can buy the same tech (DLP projector/ LCD 3d glasses) for around $700 USD and torrent 3D movies or play 3D games. Avatar and Trine 2 looked amazing on my 110 inch screen in 3D with some 20 dollar chinese brand glasses that work great.
>occulus meme -600usd
>1080p 3D DLP projector - 700-750usd
Kek. We know who the real poorfags are.
OP is a dangerous faggot and should be put down to protect the children
I'll be getting VR assuming Vive ships to Japan, I'm prepared to spend 800 dollars plus shipping/tax because I have the money and think VR is pretty cool
But even I can agree with everyone that this VR cinema concept is the stupidest fucking idea ever. What fucking autist would sit in some virtual space of empty seats? How the fuck is this an exciting way to watch a movie?
VR is cool and I'll be getting it but this is nothing but trash
>muh bug screen tv
Input lag is horrible on big screen TVs. I have a 42 inch led and a 47inch LCD, my Benq projector has better response time, on par with my monitor.
After playing on projector, a tv or monitor juat looks like a tiny piece of shit.
>washed out image
I have to have every lamp/light on in my house for it to look washed out at all. It looks good with a lamp on or other small light source but why would I not play on the dark? Contrast and brightness is on par with or better than that of TVs. Maybe ancient projectors looked shitty or maybe youve only seen shit ones.
have to sit in front of it and stay there
takes up room in your house
can't play games on it without disgusting input lag
can lay in bed, facing the wall
can play virtual reality games
can make your viewing environment be anything you want
takes up no room and can be set up anywhere with a pc
I didn't say anything about Occulus Rift. I'm not buying that garbage until it either gets some decent games or all of the bugs get fixed.
>Paying 700-750 USD for shitty projection.
>Projection owners, everybody. Fucking retards.
Why is /v/ trying so hard to dislike oculus rift? Is it because it's popular? Come on guys, you don't have to be special ALL the time.
Nobody even can make a good argument for why they hate it.
>"it's not holodeck so it's not real vr"
Well it's a lot more immersive than a normal screen and your expectations are unrealistic
>"i-it's just a screen taped to your face"
You've never used one
actually, tons of people on the internet have recorded themselves using VR, being immersed to the point of even losing their balance, and having lots of fun.
Literally less than a phone, tablet, or high end pc hardware. New technology is expensive. Get used to it.
Even if that were true, which it isn't, being able to use it for POV porn, waifus, and movies alone makes it worth it for some people
>"i don't like it"
Then fuck off back to your undertale thread kiddo
now all you need is your VR girlfriend to sit next to you in that theater you fucking faggot =^)
>if you won't buy a useless pos then you're poor haha
it's time, this is your sign
Yeah, its taken from my shitty phone so thats not surprising. Do your own research and testing if you want to know what its really like. I bought it with the understanding that it probably wouldnt look that good, would have too high of input lag to be playable, and that id promptly return it.
I was wrong though.
>le shitty projectors xD meme
Surprise, /v/ was a bunch of ill-informed children in the topic.
should i even bother with VR?
Im thinking ill wait til everythings a bit more developed
Go buy one and try it yourself, you can always return it. If you can get your mommy to let you use her credit card that is :^)
>can make your viewing environment be anything you want
You mean I could watch horror movies while also being surrounded by a dark forest?
I may kill myself via heart attack this year.
maybe it has something to do with the fact that it's going to cost double the price of the dev kits because of the $200 built in headphones, shitty bundled software, and other extra shit like carrying case and controllers.
How much would a VR headset cost with equal screen specs but without any of the extra bullshit like motion control that I give absolutely no fucks about?
Like, I just want two OLED 1080p screens glued inside a pair of goggles. That's fucking it.
I'm more interested in the potential of filmmakers actually designed movies around VR, specifically documentaries. Basically I want the VR Goggles Lisa imagined in The Simpsons.
It's has WAY more sophisticated shit than the DK2 you idiot, every component is custom made in the CV1
>pay 2k for shitty 65 inch screen because MUH TV
>pay 600 dollarydoos for a 150 inch projector with the same contrast ratio/resolution
Its like talking to iSheep.
>NO ID RATHER PAY MORE FOR LESS
>same contrast ratio
Well I didn't say that. My TV is better there but projectors have come a long way. You can get a lot for $600-$800 now and having a 150" screen just beats using a TV easy even with a better picture. Until 150" OLED screens that I can just mount on my wall become a thing and not for $100,000 then projectors are what I'm going to use.
>tfw vizio master race
65" 2160p only 8 ms more delay than my monitors. Maybe you should research products before shopping?
>all this projector hate
a year ago, i would have laughed if anyone mentioned a projector. But the recent advancements are impressive.
1080p short-throw 3d for $700?
I can throw it in my backyard and hook my laptop to it and play whatever i want while projecting on the house and sitting by a fire?
Its the lenses and a high enough quality screen to really make it work that is the problem. People manage it but end up spending roughly the same for what is probably a somewhat inferior product. If you still want to though just check around the VR forums, there is a pretty big community.
It's Apples and Oranges. I also have a DK2 and tried some of the latest prototypes.
Watching movies in VR is going to be pretty shit for a while, you're basically watching movies in sub-SD resolution. I'm totally into VR for games but for movies, it's just a gimmick. I'd never use a VR headset over my projector until they get to at least 4k per eye.
i always wait until movies are about to leave theaters and then go. Being around a bunch of smelly, noisy shits is annoying.
>even the occasional outlaw who can't unglue their phone from their hand
Who cares about those? I'm talking about friends or even significant others, if you're lucky.
Why the fuck don't they offer this as a package too?
I have great headphones. Probably better than the shit they'll stuff in the Oculus.
>fill the theature with other peoples avatars
>feel like a real movie theature
fuck thats awesome. It'd be like being able to see the original star wars movies in person.
This nigga knows what's up. I have, on occasion, watched a movie in a room with 2 or three other people. I actually watched the first Silent Hill movie in the theater by myself. Way better than being in a room packed with loudmouth morons who aren't my friends (when I'm with friends, there's a good chance we will be loud on occasion).
That's fucking retarded. It doesn't have the rumbling of the massive theater speakers, or the popcorn and icee that you place in the cupholder of your recliner. No one in their right mind would choose this over going to an actual theater unless you live in bumfuck nowhere where it takes longer than 10 minutes to walk to your local theater.
Depends on the projector. Many are in the 4000-6000 hour range if you keep it in Eco mode which is plenty bright if you have a light controlled room, which you should if you're even considering a projector. They can be as low as 2000 hours or even 150,000 hours if you get a laser hybrid or a LED one.
>Hideo and Kojima might make Not-Silent Hills and put it in Playstation VR
I'm not sure I could handle it. PT still freaks me out.
Going to make some popcorn, put this on, and watch all of Fist of the North Star.
