If TR-8R is any indication, lightsabers don't always cut through everything, you can stop them with normal weapons.

Maybe it's a force thing? The better you are at the Force, the more easily you can cut.

just came here to say that regular metal can deflect lightsabers, or at least block them somewhat

this is based off movies when lightsabers hit the wall/railing/etc. and leave a burn mark and sparks but only cut through a little bit
