>"DON'T GIVE TERRY FOR YOUR ITEMS!"
>"HE'S ONE THE MOST POWERFUL PARTY MEMBERS!"
>"btw he gets good at lvl 25 so that's near the end of the game where you don't get to use any of your party members unless you grinded at the EWC :^)"
Fuck that, Terry is only good if you give him at the beggining of the game and kill him later for some extra XP.
Also, LISA thread.
He's the first and one of the only party members that can inflict pissed off status, which stops enemies from using their instant kill bullshit against your party, so he's alright in my book. Nern does too but he gets it later than Terry.
Gentle reminder that this is an RPG Maker game.
Gentle reminder that RPG Maker games are ruining Steam.
Gentle reminder that by playing this stupid shit you are supporting a community that is more cancerous than Undershits.
RPG Maker games are cancer of Steam. Lisa might be an exception, but by supporting it you are feeding the cancer. Edgy teenagers will see its success and keep filling Steam with more RMshits.
Both Undertale and LISA are good games.
/v/ is full of entitled manchildren who can't accept people like things they have a prejudice against, that's also why this board is popular with conservacucks, stormfags and other awful people. Gamergate ruined this place harder than years of newfags and reddits influxes ever could.
There, I said it.
Fuck this board, I'm so fucking tired of coming here every day dealing with literal retards and children and praying to get a good thread out of the big pile of shit this place has become over the years, I hate all of you and I wish I could leave.
Undertale is a 6/10.
5/10 because there's areas (badlands) you just drudge through, boring as fuck, that the OST makes bearable. Seriously, the OST saves the game.
6/10 because both neutral (novkills ) and true pacifist routes had endings which made weep.
That said, game was a linear as shit corridor where everything you did was predetermined, with only one direction at all times : forward.
Puzzles were also easy as shit, making for a constant ego stroke (along side constant memes and e-culture references) which justifies the amount of tumblr teens who cling to the good feels this game brings them .
TL/DR: more often than not, Undertale is mediocre. Entire sections salvaged by a godlike OST alone, with peaks off entertainment in between (which were awesome BTW).
Game without the soundtrack would be a 4/10.
In what sense is it bait?
It had one or two stellar moments which were very good. But unfortunately the writing/plot and the game itself were not consistently good.
Taking into account how boring it was to drudge through certain bullshit areas like the Firelands , the game becomes a 6/10 . would be a 4 without the OST. But I'm just repeating myself. What do you feel is wrong? Should the score be higher ? Lower?
While I agree that the game has tons of repetition and the soundtrack carries it I think that it's characterization while based on cliche's and has little depth was done well, and the whole "Enemies are people to" thing I thought was well done. Like how in a normal RPG some people grind to make the game easier while grinding in undertale you're slaughtering it's inhabitants for really no good reason and the game lets you know that.
The game has flaws, despite people arguing how progressive and deep it is it's really not and the creator even said he had no agenda or thought if it has progressive. Even the message the game is trying to tell you is a childish look on morality. I thought it was at least a 7-8/10
Hey, Talos principle made me weep on both the tower ascension and messenger endings.
But contrary to memetale, Talos had a consistent writting and buildup so that when all of humanity is gone and you emerge out of the neumetronics institute as a robot perfected by the trials presented inside the testing chambers of virtual reality , you both get a potent message on the continuity of humanity as a species ans collective culture , and also a sense of duty towards sacrificing yourself for the greater good. Like the scientist that slowly wastes away from the global disease bringing about the apocalypse talking to you through time capsules - in the hopes that the program generates a randon personality good enough to pass off as human.
The game further deals with what prefaces conscience and identity .
Talos is a 10/10 writting, 9/10 music, 9/10 gameplay that ends up being an 8 because it drags on too long and has shy replaying value (which forces you through puzzles which lose novelty and appeal on the first run).
Talos is a more refined and polished experience than memetale.
>The choice between terry or your stuff comes incredibly early
>Implying you have ANY good stuff or even a large sum of money that early
If you give up Terry you're just being an asshole.
Fuck you OP, Terry, Birdie and Shocklord are the only true bros.
Man who gives a fuck about that?
If a game is good it's good.
End of line.
I don't give a fuck if it was made with RPGmaker, cryengine or whatever tool they use to make games.
A game is good when you remember every single bit of it, and boy, i remember (and love) every single party member.
From Terry, Nern and Olan, to Buffalo Garth and Crisp.
>Undertale is an 8/10
Read a book you cuck. There's plenty of critically floored books which have exactly what Undertale has , with a consistent writting , but still aren't considered stellar by any means.
Just because you're uncultured and illiterate , doesnt mean whatever shit nugget of philosophy you find is perfect.
TL/DR: anyone giving UT a score higher than 7
and that's stretching itis an illiterate who should have enough self cobsciousness to feel too embarassed to post his stupid opinion.
Wow, got some hot opinions there. Did I strike a nerve? Its mechanics are fun, the OST is god tier, boss fights are creative as hell with some great moments, and it's funny and replayable. When did I say it was fucking Dostoyevsky?
>no retort so he deluges into shitposting
Good job making a fool of yourself.
>poison does % based damage
>only a few bosses are immune to it
>poison does laughable percentage damage
>bosses are immune to it
>normal enemies die too fast for it to be worth it
Nah, just kidding , Bio was fucking broken in some parts in final fantasy 7.
It's true tho. Memetale is being praised by illiterati who never read anything gold, so their first taste of philosophy is that of the sweetest honey to them.
They dont have any actual significance but I held on to the flower all the way to the end too
>tfw Buddy has the same flower in Joyful
Absolutely no. using these engines means that you dont give a rats ass about gameplay or the quality of the assets and just want everyone to read that story you wrote for creati writting at high school. Im not paying to read about some nerds fantasies while struggling with shit gameplay. Learn how to do things properly or go home.
Anon we get it
We understand that you tried to make an RPG maker game and gave up. It's okay. Not everyone can be creative.
There's no reason to be jealous of people who got popular because they put in the effort.
What the dickens are you talking about, he has like 5 of them and a combo system with most skills doing bleed, motherfucker is great, almost Geese levels of solid when not in withdrawl, and atleast Joyed Carp when ya give in.
>Shit because of his attacks
More like he needs Joy every 4 turns
I'm surprised no one made Tiger Man or Big Lincoln lewds
I'm retarded. What was the deal with this place exactly? Where they meant to be dead or paralyzed or what?
>Rolled with Terry, Rage, and nern early
>Dumped Nern when I got Beastborn
>Dumped Terry despite what people said when I got Birdie
>Dumped Beastborn when I got RC the Duffel-Hobo
>Killed Satan in 6 turns with one Gas spit and no party deaths
Then I got to the finale...
I didn't want to do it. :(
I played the entire game normally and never ever saw even once a permakill move, even against Satan, Johnathan and the Joy mutant in the bath.
Probably it's because I learned to abuse Pissed Off with Nern towards the endgame, but still I never had any party member killed except Rooster when I decided to give him to Buzzo instead of my arm. I guess I was pretty lucky with the forced russian roulette too.
his hit chance is absolute shit, at least from my experience and pretty much anyone with an aoe skill is straight up better
used Birdie, Ajeet and Olan myself
When he did hit he did fuck tons of damage and he could gain SP very easily, sliding headbutt and truck slam would rape everyone.
I thought about keeping olan instead because of his poison and high luck but I decided against it.
Man. I've typed up like three tl;dr posts about why I think this game is fantastic, but ultimately I realized that I don't need to justify it. It's not like it's anything more than my opinion.
LISA is one of my favorite games ever. Is it one of the best games I've ever played? Maybe, maybe not, but it matters more whether or not it's one I really like. And I do. LISA is amazing, and it was my favorite gaming experience in 2015.
So, who kidnapped Buddy? Now, of course, the immediate answer is 'the Rando Army, duh'. But in that case... why is Cheeks dead? The Rando Army wouldn't have come for Buddy if Rick and Sticky didn't clue them in, and it's really hard to imagine Rick and Sticky condemning Cheeks to death just like that.
Speaking of Brad's friends, what happens to Rick if you don't blast his head off with Sticky's?
Why? Dingaling seems like a pretty rad dude to me
Cheeks was probably the only guy who wanted Buddy to stay with Brad so he paid the price for it
If you let Rick live, he doesnt show up anymore. Sticky does though
In the game you can see that while Rando himself is a very nice guy for being a almost all powerful warlord with karate magic and a personal army, its ranks are full of selfish assholes that are probably in for the free power that comes by associating with him and his army, like when he gifts you his rations for breaking your bike and his men try to kill you after he leaves. Rando probably didn't take part in the kidnapping and just sent some men to do it and Cheeks was killed by those pricks before he could learn anything about the situation. It's also implied there was a lot of infighting between them and other gangs who wanted buddy too.
Rick and Sticky had to have known that Cheeks would have gotten killed though. Why didn't they do -anything- to help him?
Overall the dynamics of the Brad/Rick/Sticky/Cheeks was one of the most interesting parts of the game, and I feel some of the screentime devoted to Brad's past at home could have used more time developing the relationships of the four. The flashback with Rick where Brad visits for dinner is one of the most interesting backstory-moments in the game.
Sticky and Rick told Rando's army to meet them at Brad's house to take Buddy. Word got out though and random men came. That's why you see both random corpses and rando's army's corpses in the start. Rick and Sticky presumably killed Cheeks because Cheeks was loyal to Brad, and ran off with Buddy to presumably give Buddy to rando in a safer area.
Rick and Sticky ran off with Buddy because a bunch of perverts were raiding Brad's house because the word got out after Sticky and RIck told Rando's army to pick her up, have you not paid attention to the dialogue?
I wish there were more pre-Flash flashbacks too, the few scenes that were in held a ton of significance to the story
I barely remembered who Columbo was until I looked him up and the Gents were just another mediocre battle as well
Painful is the best by far and a logical one to start with, Joyful after that
The First doesnt have a lot to offer to the big picture but its interesting to play through, doesnt really matter when you play it
The fight against your gang is so cool. Almost every party member is already pretty memorable despite how little screentime most get, and it's just awesome seeing them on Rando's island.
It's common knowledge that they all behave differently in battle (the ones most people know are Terry or Birdie crying) but some of the characters kinda go above that.
At first I was really, really shocked Rage Ironhead said that 'I've wanted her from the beginning. What did you expect, Brad?"
I'd previously saved him not only from Buzzo and then from the Pretty Boys in area 2, and he seemed genuinely grateful both times. I felt mega betrayed that a companion I'd had since day 1 and given up a limb for would be so incredibly underhanded...
But during the battle, he wasted just as many turns crying as Shocklord did. I like to think it was his way of trying to make things easier on Brad, knowing that they were going to clash either way.
A lot of RPGs, I have a really hard time imagining the characters doing much of anything offscreen. For how little development the party members of LISA get, they're written in such a way that I can honestly picture how they react to the world around them. Aaaaagh, I wish there could be more games like this.
His mullet game is unkillable.
>Comparing obvious photoshoot to a random picture of him where he's clearly engaged with something else and unaware he's being photographed.
Dingus is still on point.
>Olan and Birdie crying and regretting their actions
>Ajeet telling me how it is and wastes no time trying to destroy me
godspeed you magnificent bastard
I decked Ajeet out in like 100 mags worth of gear then the very first fight he got one shot killed by some monster. I was mad but I'm not a save scumming fag and dealt with it. Still wonder if he is any good.
RPG Maker is not that bad.
>Terry never had any fans
>He can't go home as he'll be killed if he does
>When Brad finds him he was standing next to a cliff
I FUCKING KNEW THERE WAS A GAME I FORGOT TO BUY IN THE SALE
Spotted the newfag tumblr transplant. I'd say go suck a dick, but I know no one would ever touch your legbeard ass.
And you're right, gamergate did ruin /v/. Pursuing ethical reform in videogame journalism rustled jimmies and got faggots like you here.
ill never understand this more games that are shit means all games get worse meme.
>it makes browsing in the steam store harder / take longer
who gives a fuck faggot, you only buy /v/ approved games anyway.
Because moot got cucked by a gawker chick and drove away the oldfags, whilst sjw fags brigaded because they can't stand anyone having a different opinion. Then they spun GG into some evil misogynist plan when the whole point is that gaming journalism has been fucked for some time. How dare we hold anyone who isnt a man accountable for their actions? Fuck me, right?
>it was like them fighting for ethics in journalism then one day everyone just hated them
that's why it turned though. it was fun when it was just about making nobodies mad on twitter by telling them to suck a dick then people started trying to legitimize a movement that actually was about harassing people on the internet for being retarded. shit was fun for a few days.
As someone who was there, simply not true. It was always about accountability to a degree. Plenty of counter trolling when game jounalists started saying "gamers are dead" to damage control, sure. But theres always going to be trolling.
And I meant damage control by the jounalists.
>Gamer's discovered we're corrupt liars who are buddy buddy with sjws from our liberal arts college
>Gamer's are dead! Even though its a billion dollar industry!
I wish this guy would actually be non-retarded, play the game on normal mode and finish it at least once.
instead he goes blind pain mode and ragequits when he can't find anymore save points
Buddy "If He's On The List, I Make Him A Fine Red Mist" Armstrong did nothing wrong
why is Buddy such garbage compared to Brad? even Brad wouldn't kill people unless they were getting in his way, buddy literally kills every NPC I've encountered so far, and she can't stay alive in any fight
You can buy a shitton of recovery items and should be high leveled enough
after Rando leavesto kill everything relatively easily yourself, just hit the perfect slashes and utilize Flash vs single foes and Sleep Bomb vs lots of foes
>First game you focus on getting gameplay and story down, use a shitty engine
>Use funds from sales to hire competent programmers to create a nice engine for future titles
Literally nothing wrong with this as long as the devs don't continue to use the easiest way out
When i saw that rage was crying i kind of figured out that he was playing the badass to help himself with not feeling bad.
Almost trying to convince himself to kill Brad since he was too attached to him.
I know it's basically headcanon at that point, but imagining Rage crying and choking as he's saying that line makes it my favorite companion line.
Following the canon, Terry remains the best.
Carp hit me really hard though, as simple as it is.
Yeah, I'm 100% with you on pretty much everything you said.
Fighting your party members isn't really that uncommon a thing in RPGs, but it's very very rarely well done on either a story or gameplay level; the fact that LISA manages to make it really emotional (with the right party setup, but more than half of the quotes I've seen get to me) with only a few lines per member of the really large cast is plain impressive IMO.
Something about Carp talking hits me a lot.
He's just supposed to be a dumb guy with a fish head and then he not only becomes my favorite party memeber he also has a really good backstory and fucking hurts me inside in the end when i realize he's just a man.
I don't know, i really like it.
>gave him up instead of my items beecause he was weak
>later he comes back again for revenge
>"I...I liked you, Brad sempai"
>still weak as fuck
>beat the shit outta him
I guess he did become a bit stronger in the end, but was still a faggot.
Carp is fucking incredibly strong.
He's an addict but he's the best addict since his abilities aren't effected by withdrawl.
He gets a super combo that hits like a truck, a poison attack, and an attack to lower enemy attack or agility permanently.
Carp is the best chracter
I was playing blind and already liked my set up. I figured that I was pretty lucky to even find harvey so he must be good and birdie and mad dog wrecked cunts like no one else.
I would argue birdie is the best since he can heal your whole party, cover an enemy with oil which raises fire damage to them by I think 250% and can recover all his HP while being untargetable
aesthetically/character wise Olan, Buckets, Carp, Bo, terry and geese are all top tier. Olan being my personal Favorite
That sounds like a very solid setup, even though I only used Birdie. Then again, I decided to stick with Terry throughout the game because I felt for the guy and until he got his dmg abilities he was good for keeping people pissed or fallen.
I believe you're told to throw the solo championship and if you do not, people will abandon the arena, locking you out of the 4v4 and 2v2 fights, the former which you can repeat indefinitely for XP while the latter can be completed safely (for 2 pretty good belts and Shocklord party member).
I'm curious btw, can you still do the tag championship?
>Anon, they all were into some kind of weird mutilation fetish.
The last two points are solid, but I don't recall any info that would support this theory. Come to think of it, outside of wearing those masks and carrying out Buzzo's orders, his gang members haven't done anything particularly reprehensible (outside of said orders, which I suppose includes distribution of Joy). They even seem quite polite when talking with Buddy.
You weren't the only one. I assumed it was like what happens in the Yakuza. You piss off the boss and pay with a finger, only with an entire limb since Buzzo is a crazy bastard.
Still didn't keep me from pitying the fuck out of him at the end of Joyful, however.
He's not giving Undertale a proper review. He did a bullshit 'flash' review in his last video just so he could put it on his top 10 for last year. Reason being he feels it's best to experience it completely blind.
>Mutilates buster and lisa
>Torturers brad because he needed someone to blame besides himself
>Lets yado continue with his plans
>Spreads joy around despite knowing what it does
I'm glad that fucker turned into a monstrosity before getting killed
So did pretty much everyone else in lisa, brad went through way more shit than him and he was still a decent human being.
Fuck him for what he did to buster, he was to good for the world and didn't deserve any of the shit that happened to him.
I hate how Dusty's got some of the worst fucking luck out of the entire cast. This guy is the epitome of NOTHING WRONG, yet he ends up getting the shortest stick of them all. Everybody had been through hardcore shit, and they're all broken people. But Dusty? His only sin was associating with Brad, who he thought of as a father. Poor guy got his fucking face carved off and he still managed to keep just an inkling of optimism, even after the fucking apocalypse. He never turned into a miserable, angry son of a bitch like Buzzo or a washed up deadbeat like Brad.
Why do bad things keep happening to good people?
>Not keeping the best example of endgame growth explosions in recent memory.
I bet you discarded the Onion knights as well.
Literally the best party. Birdie's agi is so high he always goes first, followed by any of the three who all have fire attacks
They also all fit thematically because Brad lost his daughter, Terry is Brad's ride or die,
Birdie's sons are dead and Mad Dog killed his son right before meeting Brad. The guy who's skull you pull the mace out of is Mad Dog's kid.
