I've only played a single game of Dota to be honest, and I got disconnected immediately and spent ten minutes trying to reconnect while listening to my friend (who invited me to play) convinced the other players not to rage at me. He was pretty good at the game so the lobby MMR was probably way too high for a new player. He kicked ass and was the best player in the lobby, but I fed as Dark Seer about 12 times because I was laning against a Brood Mother (I had no clue what any of this meant at the time, I watch Dota a fair bit though so I'm thinking about taking another shot at playing the game). The single defining mechanic of Counterstrike is corners. Someone holds still around a corner and shoots when someone tries to peek the corner. You repeat this forever for as long as you play the game. This is not an interesting mechanic.

Competitive Pokemon is non-existent among friends because it doesn't take long for the alpha autist to show their dominance. There's quite a few people in the thread, but I've mentioned that the Source engine in general is shit and I hate it. It isn't conducive to enabling good gaming experiences, people have fun in spite of the engine's flaws. I hope Source 2 is completely different.
