Let's have an AoE thread without all the epic memes.
Just to start.
The one with the fortress/walls set in a dense forest
>best knights (fuck priests desu)
>invincible penguin men
>gunpowder just in case
honestly I really like unknown. Cuts down on the meta gaming and sometimes it dicks with build orders.
Nigger, you better fucking take that back. I've been playing since it dropped in 1999, and just a couple weeks ago I sat down for a 3 hour multiplayer game and loved every minute of it.
just rush every game. you actually need to rush against anyone that plays the game well because if your enemy doesn't rush, they just lose to a rush so the only way to defend is to rush as well.
We can't even have a good discussion about it these days
Was there any need to release new expansions? A sequel would have literally been better
Kings are still useless. You'd think they'd give us some form of kingly defense but no let's just not give a fuck about it and focus on the african kingdoms haha.
And don't even get me started on the memes.
Shit like random civs that no one cares about ruined these expansions, why couldn't we have gotten more and better balanced units?
Guess you're right senpai. I hardly hear anyone talk about any of the new civilizations at all. I'd buy a sequel day fucking one.
where can I find more like this?
Sorry senpai, I've always been intimidated by the competitive scene so I've never delved too deep into it. I play custom scenario maps only with strangers, and when I do any online multiplayer, it's only with friends.
soon my friend, we can crush the chinese as superior greeks and atlanteans
>starts with a meme picture
>grew up with this, but only really played against the ai
>needless to say I suck dicks at actually anything competitive
>anyways, browsing youtube, youtube recommends spirit of the law
>turn out he has good tutorials and shit and now I kinda suck only a little.
Uh, Joan of Arc is a decent campaign to pick up after the tutorial. Saladin and Barbarrosa are the best of Age of Kings. The battles of the conquerors are mostly good too. No clue about the recent shit. I have it too but it gets too laggy in my toaster.
Aztec spearchucker here. Come at me, brave warrior.
>you will never have E=MC2 troopers and photon men - the game
J U S T
F U C K I N G
E N D
AoE2 is always worth picking up
Of course it's a rts and thus nothing like civ
You can also get Endless Legend, which is similar to civ, or dominions, which is quite more complicated but goat
There is this guy membrillio that posts way more recorded games on youtube and a lot of them are live games with only 2k players from Voobly like viper, daut, chris. The twitch cancer with subs is less than zeroempires he has only like 100 subs. And his commentary is better, he has a funny spic accent and sometimes brings a slav cocaster and banter very nice about the game. But the dude posts hours of content evey day he has humdreds of pro games on his channel
>fuck priests desu
A smart man brings a group of priests along to make his Teutonic Knights even more powerful.
Out of all the Youtube faggots that focus on this game, he's the best. Giving you the raw facts so you can decide in the moment what's the best strategy, instead of just giving you a strict build order that will fall the moment your opponent changes to counter.
I only played it on lan parties with friends back in the day and am now shocked to see that the AI is constantly spamming low end units to attack me. Leaving me with no time to actually build a base. how does one deal with that? Are there mods that remove the zerg rushing?
Yeah, even the basic shit like that, how to build farms or when to rebuild lumber camps for max efficiency can shave minutes off age times for a new player. Build orders are more effective for a new player, but you're not learning what your doing, you're just imitating. Which causes players to build bad habits, be super predictable and hurt your game in the long run.
Pretty high. Its not a strong, be all end all choice. For example you could put crazy stress on Cavarly with your answers and it could give you a civ that doesn't even get Paladin. I definitely suggest trying out the civ it told you, because you really have nothing to lose. It's also kinda daunting because the game has so many civs to choose from now so it's a bit of a burden to try them all. It just makes a shortlist.
Yeah, go moderate difficulty or baby mode. Build walls and funnel the enemy units towards a castel, towers. Last time I checked the Ai will not attack you in any way if you wall up completely before he sends his first units and will let you to boom and make the first move. Make mangonels guarded by spears, best combo that counters every rush besides an eagle/other infantry rush
>watch out for castles
>knights losing to castles
Like with most every military conflict, the best way to defend yourself is by attacking the enemy. The easiest way to beat even hard AI is by going for a feudal aggression strategy. Putting towers next to their vital resources absolutely destroys them because they're shit at adapting and won't stop you from building them half the time, scout rushes can absolutely harrass the fuck out of their eco because they'll often run away with all their villagers, or run after you with all of them, giving you massive resource leads. Archers also work, though they like to spam skirmishers so you'll still neeed scouts as support
I pretty much never get to make a knight rush workj against them, but maybe that's just because I'm 2slow
I'm sad that it is almost impossible to have a balanced game against AI. I loved making a sport out of trying to destroy the wonders of my friends in 5 hours pizza and beer sessions. Such grand battles sadly don't seem possible with it.
Fuck that shit, my man.
