The funny thing is, while Dragon Quest basically cemented this mechanic, you also have tons of examples of people getting mad at you. I was playing Dragon Quest VI today and two NPCs gave me shit for walking into their house.

To be fair, some people do lock their doors. And you use Magic/Ultimate keys to legitimately break int their house.
But you're a hero off the to save the world from evil. The least they can do is donate their gold and bunny ears to help you.
No, I'm 26 and my father had an Atari and NES. First console I could call MINE was the SNES, then a gameboy.
Don't go in thinking the two seasons are always that funny. They're pretty dull with recycled jokes and the few screencaps you've probably seen are the only good scenes.
Pretty much like most live action Japanese TV. Never seen such a contrast between live action and animation as Japan. Their animated works are more serious and better acted than the live action shows...
