>>322892742 Its Dark Souls but doesnt ever lose pacing/quality at any point and the combat is faster, that could be spun into a positive or negative but combat definately feels less methodical and is more aggressive.
>>322892964 I have trouble believing people can be this retarded. You're complaining about having too many options? How about you explore instead of being a 14 year old rushing through the games bosses? Play the game right.
Fixing it in your mind would be making that 50% part of the core game, instead of optional adventures? Why do you even play video games
>>322893317 EDF 4.1 is pretty fun in my opinion. Dont buy a PS4 if you own a PC, not yet anyway, there isnt really enough games that are actually out to warrant the price of a machine that plays multiplats and a few exclusives if you have a PC to play said multiplats already.
>>322893498 Not him but What if you accidently skip all those options? Like you coincidently took all the necessary paths to the final boss without knowing. Having options is fine but if it's 50% like he claimed then you could miss out on a ton of stuff.
>Enemies can still swivel 180 degrees mid swing like in DaS2 >Bosses can kill you instantly unless you pump VIT like a madman >Chalices are repetitive and boring, but necessary for grinding bloodgems, since bosses in NG+ and higher are massive health sponges >Apparel isn't as varied as previous games, mostly made up of grey and brown coats and rags
>>322893915 There isn't a point of no return. If the workshop is on fire and you go fight Gherman, not believing that to be the final boss, you're an idiot. You can even die to him and go off and do other shit.
>>322893498 No, I knew about the other areas but thought to myself "I'll explore those when I'm done with these other areas"
Trouble is, those areas led directly to the end of the game.
DaS 1/2 has you going around to the other areas as mandatory to reach the final boss. BB does away with that.
>>322893915 Exactly. I ended up beating the game without ever learning about beast transformation, caryll runes, and using Ludwig's Holy Blade +9. Never having found more than 3 weapons in the game world.
>>322894826 Well, then what do you want me to say? I found everything except for uppper cathedral ward on my first run. Why would you buy a "souls" game and only play through it once and expect the story to be thrown at you. Play FF13 or something
>>322892412 >awful camera >shit hitboxes (especially WatchDog) >broken lock-on that doesn't do its job during half the boss fights >have to go through hunter's dream every time you want to warp somewhere >awful loading times (bearable with the patch but still not great) >little diversity in area design (most of the game takes place in grey abandoned buildings or grey spooky forests) >hunter npc fights are unfairly op (their guns usually do at least 50% of your hp) >crappy framerate that tanks sometimes and makes certain sections annoying to play >chalice dungeons have absolutely atrocious level design and visual design (even in the non-rng ones), even reusing normal enemies with more hp from the main game as bosses >story is as bare-bones as you can get to the point where it doesn't even bother to setup the game's world properly >online multiplayer has awful netcode, the most limited ways of playing multiplayer since Demon's Souls >little to no build diversity >small amount of weapons without buying dlc
I've only just beaten Vicar Amelia and I'm gonna say this game was worth the price of the console itself. I got halfway thru Dark Souls and had fun and played a couple bosses of DS2 and thought it was alright. Bloodborne is so much better. The world, the graphics, the gameplay, the exploration, the execution of it all is just perfect. I'm already thinking of making another character just to play through what I've already done but with the cane instead of the axe.
If I could give a new BB player one piece of advice it would be to turn around at Yahar'gul. Turn the fuck around and go explore anything you put aside for the time being, anything you think you missed. Goddamn
If someone told me this, I might still want to play the game and not have a $500 paperweight on my computer desk
>>322895709 >>322895805 I already accidentally went there after blood starved beast because I got killed by one of those random sack carrying dudes. I nearly shit my pants at how hard and creepy that place is. I got all the scattered items and then died to the electric beast boss before quitting that area. Will I have to go back? I'm ready to go to that door I needed a password for next
You do go back there eventually, but it's one of the later areas in the game. The boss you are talking about is optional and can be killed whenever you want, but you do need to pass through that prison area briefly so you can go back and kill him when you do that.
>>322896331 >>322896120 Don't go to the Forbidden Woods first. Take the path to the left of the Cathedral into Hemwick. There's a very important item in that area that you'll be glad to have before continuing, especially on a first playthrough.
You can explore the entire game whenever you want, even right before the last boss. The game never denies you access to areas of the game, taking you to a point of no return. The only thing you might miss are side-quests, but that's the point of playing through the game multiple times.
>>322892412 >edgy minimalistic story >sickdark atmosphere >literally dark souls with blood instead of souls >directly plagiarizes lovecraft at times >casual and dumbed down >pvp is shit
all in all it's a solid 6/10 that caters to the edgy 14 year old sickdark crowd who love blood and werewolves and revenge fantasies of killing their high school bullies. the only reason it gets discussed on /v/ is because it's a nogames machine exclusive and sonyggers are so desperate for any game that they'll pretend sickdark simulator 2015 featuring dante from devil may cry is actually GOTY. you can see the same thing happen with demons souls, with sonyggers acting like it's not literally king's field 5 - edge edition HD.
it's still better than most games this year though. so there's that.
>>322892412 Linear and repetitive level design Boring grimsick art style Casual combat No challenges No difficulty setting Only one play style Reused enemies throughout the whole game NPCs have no facial animations Regenerate health Too many blood vials Too many blood echoes Too many bloodstone shreds Almost infinite qs bullets No consequences for keep leveling up Most boss fights are extremely easy Loot are all the same junk Low frame rate
>>322898908 It wasn't though. With chalice dungeons and all of the optional content you probably missed, it had more playable content than Das1. There was sort of a beast form with the beast claw, but only got visual effects in the DLC. I doubt they intentionally cut anything there, beasthood was just a mechanic.
>>322893916 I call bullshit on your third point Chalices are boring, but I had to grind NG+ (which seemed perfectly calibrated difficulty for me) to beat the cursed pthumerian one >tfw last floor of cursed and the last chalice remaining to get Yharnam queen trophy and platinum
>>322899339 Not liking chalice dungeons is subjective, they had plenty of content and bosses, and playing through non-roots offered plenty of content >I did everything By then you should realize that it had just about as much as DaS1
Is Amelia the casual filter for the fame? She seems to ramp up the difficulty of the bosses from Gascoigne to her. Obviously it's easier if you go to old Yharnam first, but she's the boss I see most people bitch about.
>>322899985 Fight fast, but fight smart. Learn attack patterns, then go in for the kill on basic enemies. For bosses, expect to die a few times while you learn when they have openings. Find a weapons style you like, and upgrade it. It's easy to miss some weapons, so looking up what's available never hurts.
>>322892412 Honestly the only people who dislike it are people who can't play it. I only had a PC for a while and I brushed off that game as overrated by fanboys. But I got a ps4 for Christmas this year, so naturally I went out and bought Bloodborne to see what all the fuss was about. And its definitely the best game in the series. The only lacking thing is build variety, other than that it beats all the souls games in every other way
>>322899951 BSB is the casual filter, for sure. If you haven't learned to parry or dodge by that point, you won't beat it. Gascoigne can be cheesed by accident and you can actually out damage Cleric a lot of the time.
>>322900126 I agree that most of non-root chalice dungeon level design was sub-par, because they were designed for random generation, but asserting that they're not content because you said so is asinine. They had unique and genuinely good bosses, which was good since you could pretty much rush through them if you didn't want to play through them.
- Go with the Hunter Axe or the Saw. Just focus on leveling up your health, stamina, and strength/skill if you want a simple playthrough.
- Don't be discouraged by dying. Just be patient and you will eventually adapt. Learn the boss patterns.
- Bloodborne is faster than Dark Souls but the tradeoff is that you get to carry 20 healing vials right off the bat. You can always kill a few enemies and buy some more if you're having trouble with a boss.
- The way levels work is that you unlock shortcuts from your checkpoint, so that getting to the boss becomes faster and faster each time. After you beat the boss, you get a new checkpoint.
- There is a mechanic called Rally where after you get hit, you can immediately attack enemies to regain that lost health. The game encourages you to be aggressive.
>>322900612 Seriously? I played Bloodborne for more than 100 hours and it seriously is one of the most boring game I've played because how easy it is. I'd stop playing if not for the buyer denial syndrome. And those dumb gooks can't even bother to put a difficulty setting in it.
>>322900946 Do casual really have trouble with this game? I mean if you're like my mother who only play mobile games then maybe you'd find this game hard. If you're the average COD/ Ass Creed kiddies I don't think this game would be hard for you.
If you can play Monster Hunter, you'll be fine in BB.
They have similar combat systems. As someone who has sunk hundreds of hours into both games, I would argue that Monster Hunter is more difficult than Bloodborne. You can abuse invincibility frames in Bloodborne rather easily whereas they don't exist in MH unless you do the superman dive or have skills that give you invincibility during rolls.
>>322901498 Which ones do you have in mind? I agree that you tend to die faster against the likes of Ludwig, but there's so little hitlag that you don't have to plan your attacks and can focus on purely dodging.
I mean, if you're just running around in circles and taking potshots, MH is easy as hell.
>>322901404 >>322901209 >>322901160 >p-pretender! >ss-s-sour grape! >mah precious casual game! Seriously I hate myself for buying this game because how obnoxious the fanbase is. The game is casual, just admit. It's boring because there's zero challenges. Oh I can already guess what you'd do next, you're gonna ignore this post and pretend you didn't shit yourself in tears because you realized how retarded you are.
>>322903846 I just played it recently. Haven't beaten it yet. I felt close to the end so I decided to start the DLC. I think I'm just before Ludwig. I love the map design but the lore behind it is more confusing than DaS1's generally straightforward plot. But that's mostly because I'm still wrapping my head around how nightmares and dreams and beasthood work in this game.
>>322903863 Refuse might actually be bad for Gehrman if you haven't killed orphan, since the DLC expanded on the lore. It's commonly believed he made the dream to escape the nightmare from the orphan of kos, and if he goes back there he'll be tormented because he and his colleagues ransacked the place in the waking world.
>>322892412 I bought it recently and I'm having trouble finding the appeal >Basic combat consisting of a few attacks and a shitty roll >Load times >Combine load times plus the fact that you have to backtrack for your echoes on death, and you're stuck replaying the past 10 minutes every time you die >Your attacks can hit walls and fail, while enemies can clip through walls and hit you >That first boss fight on the bridge with the awful camera >Every level feels samey, including environment and combat >The only cool parts are the bosses, which I wouldn't consider challenging, but more just abnoxious with random attack patterns, some of which where if you fuck up and let them land, they can chain into an instakill before you recover >Then load for a minute and spend a few more getting back there
It just doesn't feel fun. I'm on the third level but I might just drop it. Someone help me see the appeal
>>322904581 I mean by this point I get the gist of it. Two dudes find an alien god thing in a cave. Turns out there's actually more of them and that it's possible for a human to maybe ascend to their level. So the two dudes start feuding about how to do that with one guy saying to increase their insight and the other guy saying use the alien blood that can heal anything. So they break up and Byrgenwerth pretty much stays by the lake away from everyone else while Laurence makes the Healing Church and finds way to manufacture more of the alien blood. Mostly by making their nuns carriers for it even though the blood you get from them isn't as good as the pure stuff. But the blood turns people into werewolves for some reason and the aliens can alter reality so it's kind of hard to determine at which point one reality stops and another reality begins. But something out there is the source of the beast scourge and certain nights the beasts come out en masse and you need a hunter to kill the source of them. Which I guess changes each night of the hunt since I'm definitely not the first hunter. I'm still not sure where Gehrman fits in other than he used to work at the Healing Church. And I no idea what the doll is supposed to be either. The Hunter's Dream in general is weird to me, the only thing I know about it is that it's a haven for Hunters.
But that's about the most I could pull. I admit I did do some outside research but I tried to keep it to a minimum.
>>322904581 A 90 page paper proven mostly wrong later that still missed a lot of points.
>>322905361 It's theorized the beast plague was caused either by the Orphan of Kos as punishment for the mistreatment of the people of the village, OR it's caused by the Moon Presence (werewolves, full moon, geddit?)
Anyway, you're basically correct. The Scholars try to study the aliens and ascend themselves, while the Church worships them and experiments on the unknowing populace in the guise of blood ministry.
The hunters were formed, originally, to hunt and kill the monsters that resulted from these blood experiments - first in secret, then later publicly. Old Yarhnham is the result of one particularly bad outbreak where they had to torch the entire city.
Gehrman was the first hunter and an agent of the healing church. The doll is in the image of his Waifu, Maria, his first and prized student. No one is sure if she was made by Gerhman or was put there to comfort/torment Gehrman by the Moon Presence.
>>322906348 So one thought that came to me after finding the note that said something about when the pale moon descends the line between man and beast is blurred and something about a child. Since Great Ones want children they can't produce themselves, which is why they use humans, perhaps the nights of the hunt are basically mating nights for the Great Ones. The red moon descends, people start going crazy, women randomly end up with alien babies. The Great Ones don't particularly care because they're Great Ones why should they care about humans other than to impregnate our women. I can understand why this makes everyone crazy since Beasthood and Insight seem to be on opposite ends of the scale, Insight seems to be linked to the Great Ones, and the more Insight you have the more attractive you probably appear to the Great Ones (at least I'm judging that by Iosefka since she apparently was making aliens and I sent like half the cast to their deaths).
But that's just my take. As said I haven't really completed the game so their probably something later that'll completely mess this up.
>been playing BB for a few months on and off, really enjoying the PVP >keep hearing memers say DaS2 has the best PVP >remember enjoying it but not as much as DaS1's >decide to go back on and try DaS2's PVP out after over a year >literally nothing but havelmonsters with 6 buffs and magic shittery every single match >the odd hex/jesterfag thrown in between >90% of the players are absolute retards, combat feels like slow motion even in 60fps compared to Bloodborne >roll + R1 while locked on doesn't direct your attack at the target you're locked onto, but instead sends you way off target >rolling in general, and movement feel sluggish and spongy for lack of a better word
Variety is good and all, but when you see the exact same 2 - 3 builds every fucking game it's pretty aids. God the controls in DaS2 are awful, I don't remember thinking they fucked up THIS bad when going from DaS1 to 2.
>>322895676 >>awful camera only an issue on, like, two bosses >>shit hitboxes (especially WatchDog) in what way? the hitboxes in bloodborne make perfect sense. sorry you can't just swing at the air and do damage. >>broken lock-on that doesn't do its job during half the boss fights you have to pick and choose when to use the lock on. the fact that you depend on it tells me you're bad at games. >>have to go through hunter's dream every time you want to warp somewhere fair enough. you could always run through the world, though, since almost everything is connected aside from DLC >>awful loading times (bearable with the patch but still not great) fair enough, but not as big of an issue as people make it out to be after the patch >>little diversity in area design (most of the game takes place in grey abandoned buildings or grey spooky forests) the game takes place in a city and you're mad that the environment looks like a city. >>hunter npc fights are unfairly op (their guns usually do at least 50% of your hp) how about you commit a couple of stat points to your vitality? or, alternately, you could git gud >>crappy framerate that tanks sometimes and makes certain sections annoying to play fair enough >>chalice dungeons have absolutely atrocious level design and visual design (even in the non-rng ones), even reusing normal enemies with more hp from the main game as bosses chalice dungeons aren't essential to the story. they're just for grinding. again, git gud. >>story is as bare-bones as you can get to the point where it doesn't even bother to setup the game's world properly sorry you were too stupid to understand the story without /v/'s help >>online multiplayer has awful netcode, the most limited ways of playing multiplayer since Demon's Souls co-op is a feature, not a game mechanic >>little to no build diversity i can tell you've only played through once (and probably didn't even beat it) >>small amount of weapons without buying dlc see above.
>>322906893 I always start with figuring out what exactly I'm supposed to do and then start figuring out the details later. Like for Dark Souls I run into Oscar who asks me to finish some prophecy. And then I run into Frampt who tells me I'm supposed to succeed Gwyn. And then I get the Lordvessel from Gwynevere. Where the lore stories come in, once again just for myself, is figuring out what the item stories have in relation to what I'm actually doing. For example in Bloodborne I run into the little girl who asks me to find her parents. That the father is a Hunter and the mother wears a red brooch. Useless information to me initially until I get to the Gascoigne fight and run into Viola's corpse. She has a red brooch. Oh so that makes her the mother? But then is Gascoigne the father? Initially it didn't occur to me to try the music box, that came later but I was able to put pieces together that way. And then later when you tell her to go to Oedon Chapel but then when you walk back there and run into the pig you find a small sash that belonged to a little girl. You could theorize that it was the little girl you told to go to the Chapel or you can just wait until you meet her sister in her former home who will blatantly tell you that the sash belonged to her now dead sister.
>>322905310 >>Basic combat consisting of a few attacks and a shitty roll Did you play DaS? Did you like DaS? If not, you probably won't like BB, even though each weapon has 3x the available combos and 2 extra attack buttons, it's still very basic compared to, say, DMC.
>>Load times They're better than they were, but still pretty shitty,
>plus the fact that you have to backtrack for your echoes on death, and you're stuck replaying the past 10 minutes every time you die The game punishes fuck ups and generally being bad. Progress slowly and carefully, be patient and scout areas for possible traps and enemy ambushes.
You're not meant to bomb in willy nilly then bitch when you get rekt for being impatient.
>>That first boss fight on the bridge with the awful camera It's best to unlock and control the camera manually with Cleric Beast.
>>Every level feels samey, including environment and combat You'd need to elaborate, Bloodborne while always remaining generally dark and morbid, has lots of varying enviroments. If you mean Central Yharnham feels samey then yes, it's all one city afterall. Forbidden Woods, Yahar'Ghul, Mensis, Mergo's Loft etc are all very distinct. You're only in the very first area of the game.
>>The only cool parts are the bosses Personally my favourite part of Souls games is the level design, the way the areas weave and connect, and how smart shortcuts are placed and that struggle to unlock a shortcut.
>but more just abnoxious with random attack patterns, some of which where if you fuck up and let them land, they can chain into an instakill before you recover You're given the most generous dodge in video game history basically, the amount of i-frames you have is insane and dodging takes literally fuck all stamina, so of course the enemies have to be more aggressive to kill you. You can parry those ridiculous flurry attacks very easily, even on most bosses.
>>322908124 He probably did. I mean yeah he was with the Healing Church but he was also a foreigner. And Yharnamites fucking HATE foreigners. Which makes me wonder how he got the Hunter position in the first place.
>>322905310 >>Basic combat consisting of a few attacks and a shitty roll A shitty roll that completely nullifies damage if timed right. >>Load times Video games >>Combine load times plus the fact that you have to backtrack for your echoes on death, and you're stuck replaying the past 10 minutes every time you die You are playing the wrong game if you hate dying. >>Your attacks can hit walls and fail, while enemies can clip through walls and hit you Your fault for hitting walls. Your attacks can also clip through walls. >>That first boss fight on the bridge with the awful camera >>Every level feels samey, including environment and combat Every major area is completely different. >>The only cool parts are the bosses, which I wouldn't consider challenging, but more just abnoxious with random attack patterns, some of which where if you fuck up and let them land, they can chain into an instakill before you recover Bosses kill people, its a thing. git gud.
>>322908125 >less weapons (no, l1ing weapons does not make it a new weapon) Kek it literally does though because it changes form and has an entirely new moveset.
Bloodborne's combat/gameplay is far better than DaS', every weapons has like triple the amount of possible attack combos thanks to trick mode, and being able to attack into and out of both weapon modes seamlessly mid combo.
In DaS you can't even chain into and out of 2H and 1H mode.
Just finished the game and the DLC last week, definitely one of my games of the year tied with Splatoon.
Honestly the only criticisms I have were a lot of the environments were pretty similar, but it didn't really bother me a lot. Also having to farm Blood vials when stuck on a boss was pretty lame.
I however found out near the end of the game that if you have vials in storage they refill your inventory when you spawn at a lamp. I still think DaS 1's estus system is the best but it's better then farming after every death like I did all the way until Kos.
>>322908237 That was mainly meant for the combat. So far it's been the same combat mechanics with barely anything in terms of changing it up. There's not much to it aside from timing, and I'm not autistic enough to get an edge-boner every time I land a visceral attack
>>322909049 Except 2H a weapon in DaS doesn't magically give it an extra 2 attack buttons, you're still confined to R1 + R2, which you can't even combo between without a break.
In BB you can literally go
R1 > R2 > L2 > L1 > L2 > L2 > R1 > R2 without taking a single break, and every single one of those attacks will have a different animation, while also switching between 2 completely different forms of a weapon.
>>322908125 >less weapons How many weapons have unique movesets in DaS1? It's less than 20 for sure. There are 26 in Bloodborne and strangely enough they actually put effort into making each of them different. Dipshits like you who buy into quantity over quality are the reason why DaS2 was so terrible.
