Next generation of consoles in 2018
Post your expectations and predictions
Shit thermals: the movie based on the book.
All consoles run on high-volted APUs, they would cook alive in those fucking laptop cases.
M8 you shittalking boxes or something
Everybody will go ARM except for Valve because the ARM SOC market will be more competitive and offer better prices.
As a result the libraries of the Sony and Microsoft offerings will be pathetic. Valve's SteamOS library on the other hand will be closing in on half of the entire Steam library. Nintendo will maintain backwards compatibility with portable games back to the DS, and will re-release many WiiU games for their new handheld/console hybrid which will take off more thanks to the portable nature.
>new AMD APU, so x86 again
>full PS4/One backwards compatibility
>4TB hard drive
>8 core processor again, this time at much higher clock speed and based on newer AMD core design
>16GB of HBM
>BDXL / 4K Blu-ray support for 100GB discs
>no games for 3 years
>multitasking that doesn't lag like on the Xbox One
>the consoles have been out for 2 years
>still only one game of interest, and it performs poorly
What the actual fuck
How do you drop the ball THIS hard
It would have more games to call exclusive, but the recent trend of Japanese ports show that almost anything can do well on Steam.
PC weeaboos have stopped buying those games now that they feel there's a decent amount to choose from.
>Expecting a new console generation in less than 10 years of the last release
Kop Tek. If there's one thing console devs love doing, it's holding back gaming. They won't be releasing a new console for another 5 years. At least. 2018 my fucking ass.
>Next generation of consoles in 2018
Try 2020. The last one lasted for 7 years, up to 8 if you weren't a next gen early adopter, and no one wants to go back to the 5 year cycle.
>next gen of consoles in 2018
>doesn't post source
As others have said, there's no way that the next gen will be released that early. Both the Xbone and ps4 have made a killing.
It's the classic rice v. muscle. One is a rocket made out of fireworks and gossamer and the other is 3800 pounds of truck engine and air conditioning meant to drive across most of the us, save the twisty bits.
They know it' shit but they don't care. Fifa and cod is all they need. They're too cheap to buy anything more than 300/400 bux. Even if a high end pc had literally every game, they still wouldn't get it.
There is a way but it's complex.
1. You would need a steam box handled by valve since they own the biggest store. No one else will bother since they won't profit from it like valve would.
2.Secondly either valve finds out a way to get every game running on steam os or just put windows 10 on it.
3. You make a steam box that has decent dx 12 card and a decent cpu. Both should be upgradeable.
4. The most important step is advertising the fuck out of it and pointing out it's good features like free online, upgradability, has the casual games people want like cod and fifa etc.
5. Take a loss when you sell it. Make it 400 bux or some shit.
6. Actually make a few exclusives for it and entice devs to work on it's set hardware.
But like I said this is way too much work and valve makes 1 billion in profit each year so there's no reason to even bother considering the ecosystem won't be locked down.
The only other parties that would benefit is MS and they already have the xbox.
Who the actual fuck would want to get up from their seat just to go to the Image gallery?
Non-gimmicky Nintendo console
Gimmicky Nintendo console
I love my Wii U's games, but I'm starting to miss the simplicity of the GCN, not having to deal with motion controls and tablets.
Modular consoles that you can upgrade, you choose between Standard, Pro or Elite performance, at which point they'll be like PCs except slightly simpler
I predict the sony and microsoft ones will have approximately two to three okay exclusives and one actually good/great one, and the nintendo one will have a bunch of good games but have some bullshit gimmick that makes it shittier than if it was a regular-ass console ( Probably something to do with mobile )
>that blue light on the Xbox
>those analog "sticks" on the Dualshock
>the face buttons are literally hovering
Isn't one of the main selling/arguing points for consoles that they are " really simple to use "? I mean that's a bit less true today than it was back in the day, what with having to have a profile and stuff, and while setting up a PC is about three steps more difficult than using a console, the entire point is a grandma, a cellphone-generation child or anyone who understands the concept of the socket/plug relation and has a working knowledge of English should be able to use 'em.
sony will be banrupt at that time so no new consoles, ms will buy the "playstation" brand to keep the market almost entirely.
Nintendo will go software dev for ms after the complete failure of nx
miyamoto will commit seppukku in 2018
This is an excellent prediction. Each generation, consoles have copied more aspects from PC.
If consoles had two versions, say a PS5 basic and PS5 pro priced $150 more, it'd be fantastic for everyone. Console gamers would get to experience 1080p/60fps/max settings just like high end PCs, and it'd still be optimized since devs only have to worry about two builds.
Nah more likely they will come out with an external add on you can buy to give it more processing power and speed so that everyone has the same system just some have the add on and others dont kinda like with kinect nowadays
>literally a fucking pc for laymen
DO YOU THINK HE GETS IT
>tfw if the economy didnt shit itself in the late 2000s we would be in the 9th gen right now
Does it really matter ?
Consoles are now about marketing and who has the most slave minded shills out there.
Look at ps4 . Shit is garbage with no fucking games and because you have neogaffers out there infesting gaming journalism, they make the ps4 seem like the holy grail .
Sort of. The genesis wasn't originally modular. Sega of America just decided to develop stupid crap to tac onto it.
It'd be different if the console was designed from the begining to be upgradable. I'm not saying it's a good idea, but it's not exactly the same.
>Tfw if the Dark Ages didn't happen we would be in the 19th gen and colonizing Mars right now
No new games.
Same APU but clocked higher.
All PS4 games Remastered in 1080p60FPS.
That's it. That's even their strategy for the PS4.
Sony gens usually mean the competition fucked up and as a result we get no innovation or games.
This gen most of the third parties died last gen. We're literally left with only EA, UBI, and activision.
Because god knows sony first parties fucking blow
Well I guess you and I have different deffinitions of loud because my PS4 is not loud in any way whatsoever. I'm not trying to be a drone here, I still have my old PS2 and that is loud as fuck, I'm even afraid to turn it on at this point because I don't want it to break but every time I turn it on it sounds like it's falling apart from the inside, so I know what loud is.
Next console gen will happen within 2 years or even sooner than expected
1 of the 2 have to happen first
Microsoft buys AMD
The US gets fiber internet in most areas
They can both happen sooner than expected and you might say 2 years is too soon. It really isn't.
With Microsoft buying AMD it will put everyone at their toes. Sony has to either, continue giving MS money or make a new console using NVIDYA pyro technics. Nintendo will gladly keep using AMD because they're Nintendo.
This was already mentioned earlier in the thread. Early ps4s like mine are loud as balls. My roommate got one on black Friday and it's not nearly as bad.
If you got yours early then idk, maybe you got lucky.
They'll be under power at lunch and will only be able to do 1080p still behind lowend PCs. The controllers will now cost $125 each to get money from the PC gamers. Xbox is more like a PC. Sony doesn't care and makes another simple gaming console. PS5 does a single 4K game and the fan bois go crazy. Xbox fan bois say the human eye can't see above 40 frames which is what most games run at. Hopefully.
