>justifying piracy

Why? Do you think people who pirate games have some kind of guilty conscience that needs to be soothed?
>>
>>322854619
>>
Don't need to. Pay when I want, don't when I don't.

A more interesting question would be how does /v/ justify purchasing products from companies known for fucking over the consumer.
>>
>>322854420
>>322854554
These two.
I often buy the games I pirate if I enjoy them.
>>
>pirate games

suck my cock
>>
>>322854226
I couldn't care less if someone is a piratefag but reading his reactions when someone tell them that they are doing something illegal is hillarious.
They often are a bunch if insecure brats trying to justify his actions.

I mean sometimes I also pirate some games only on PC but at least I know I'm doing illegal shit and don't try to make dumb excuses with muh corporation dicks and muh freedumsss

Why would I justify it? I can get video games, movies and TV shows for free without any repercussions.

Why don't you?

i only emulate games that are 20 years old, usually delete them once I'm done, and then leave it be. I've never really touched a modern release, because even if I hate the dev, I feel like it's sinking to their level to take their game without paying, and then play it. I dunno, it makes me feel like a hypocrite.

>I pirate the game
>play it all the way through
>"I didn't like it, no money lol".

However, i think it's justified if this happens.

>try it out
>game runs terrible, can't even get past the first stage
>uninstall

THANKFULLY, customers are getting their rights once more, and we're allowed to fully refund a game if we wrongly or accidentally bought it. So if I buy a game and end up hating it, it goes right back to the dev. Not too shabby.

I know it's bad, but who fucking cares. I just do it anyway. I'd stop coming to this shithole if I stopped doing bad things too.
>>
Primarily as a protest against the lack of consumer rights in the video game industry, especially in the digital sales space. Any EULA that tells me I'm just renting a game and that they can ban me at any time and that puts restrictions on my ability to resell it to whomever I choose can choke on my dick. Game developers are not entitled to special privileges.

this

>>
I just see it as, I don't have the money to be buying the games I want to play, so I think of it this way:

If I didn't pirate, I couldn't buy the game anyway, and if I didn't pirate, I'd miss out on a lot of what I love doing.

For me at least, I don't think I'm personally harming the industry, although pirating as a whole probably does. I still buy a lot of games I could easily pirate, if I have the money for them.

>>322854226
I justify my piracy by making games and not whining like a cheesy fuck when other people decide to steal them from me. In most cases, people who pirate a piece of content wouldn't have paid for it if no pirated option were available. In those cases, it's an extra distribution channel that generates new viewers and word-of-mouth for free.

Piracy is an inevitability that can be ignored, combated (unsuccessfully), or embraced. Compare Metallica (threatens lawsuits against fans) to Nine Inch Nails (shifts focus to making money through live shows and merch, which can't be downloaded).

Game piracy will work like music piracy eventually - it'll be so easy to steal games that too few will continue to pay for them, and then the prevailing model will have to switch to something like bulk subscriptions (like Netflix or Spotify), or maybe something else. The games industry will continue finding new ways to monetize itself.

The suits are just mad because they're comparing real earnings to hypothetical earnings.

If anyone uses their limited time on a game, the content creator wins, not loses. Had the piracy been impossible, most likely i'd rather read books, rather than buy every game i was mildly interested in.
Only greedy publishers and starving indies care about punishing pirates.
The first group will survive anyway, the second won't. So I pay for the indie games i really like.
>>
>>322876005
He wasn't talking about piracy, he was talking about intellectual property.
>>
When I have a legit copy of the game in my hands with the case and product key, but the games drm still kicks me in the balls is pretty good justification for me. Thanks EA
>>
morality is a social construct
following unenforceable laws that won't impact anyone you will ever know or meet for any other reason than "I don't want to" is pretty fucking silly desu senpai

By believing I'm a bad person
>>
if a guy in the street offered you a video game that he bought would you be a bad person if you accept?

same shit online, the first person to upload the game is the person that paid for it , they are offering you his game for free :^)
>>
Modern games don't deserve money except for popular indie games.

I only pirate Western games.

>>322854226
Piracy only takes away their ability to sell me something- and that was mine in the first place

It's like going past a busker in the street and not dropping money in his pot, except replace "busker" with "Electronic Arts/Bethesda"

I've only ever personally pirated 1 thing, and do not see the problem with it

It is against the law in most first world countries. I agree with you that it's not wrong and shouldn't be illegal tho. Imho even selling copies shouldn't be illegal, the whole concept of intelectual property seems flawed to me, you can copy ideas the same way you can copy games without stealing them.

I get thing for free

When was the last time you've been on steam? There is a metric fuckton of niche games on PC a great number of them are one steam.

Without it I wouldn't be able to play video games at all.

Sometimes if I end up really liking a game after pirating, I'll buy it.

>''Hey Tom check out this new tire I made!''
>Oh hey Brian that's real cool man
>''Yea I was thinking of selling them to people and then making more tires for cars, but with better ideas!''
>Tom sneaks into the back entrance of Brians place that only he knows about
>But pretty soon people start finding out about it and after a while nobody wants to buy Brians tires because they already have them for free thus Brian goes out of business

IT'S STEALING. FUCKING STEALING.
>>
>>322854226

I'm going to steal your shit, but don't worry, I'll tell other people that your shit is awesome, so they can also steal it from you.

I'm helping

So not only does the pirate judge a game without any bias, due to them getting it for free and not having to evaluate whether or not it was worth the money instead of it actually being fun, but they also spread the word of its quality?

Golly, they actually do us non-pirate folks a service by testing the waters for us! Thanks pirates!
>>
>>322882309
>Tom can produce tires for free and without infrastructure
>Brian has overhead and expenses holding him back from designing new tires when this shit is the norm
Nice, let's cut out half the equation and then "solve" it!
>>
>>322854226
I used to try games before buying them
But now I can get Steam refunds if its shit or buy a super cheap Steam key so I rarely bother
>>
>buy
>>
>>322882309
No no no, you've got it all wrong
It's more like this
>Brian is a sandwich artist at subway
>he invents a hot new sandwich
>Tom learns the recipe and replicates the sandwich exactly
>Tom give sandwiches away for free, thus solving world hunger
How could you NOT pirate, you're literally killing off starving children

Say I was eating a pizza, and some wizard fuck comes along and uses magic to clone it. He eats his magic pizza and tells me it's really good.

Now, thanks to him, I know my pizza is going to be good and I might tell my friends to eat there too. Not only did that wizard assure me of my pizza's quality but he essential sold more pizzas by doing so.

That's piracy, nobody loses.
>>
>>322854226
how do you justify people making shitty games only for profit and not as a form of art or entertainment?
>>
>>322882779

But your friends aren't going to purchase pizza, your friends are going to get it from the wizard too.

Wow anon, thanks a lot, you saved pizzas
>>
>>322876021
that's our only benefit, i reckon.
>>
>>322882543
Steam harasses you for refunding and tells you off.
>>
>>322882309
Except when you pirate you don't actually touch anyone's property without permission.

>I write 101110 on a paper
>I start selling papers with 101110 on them
>someone lets someone else rewrite it on his own paper with his own pen
>FUCKING THEFT
>>
>>322882858
The wizard is greedy, who won't just share his pizzas with any fuck who comes along.
>>
1. It's convenient.
2. Some modern companies just don't deserve your money. I'd never buy a Ubisoft or EA game, for example.
3. Games generally aren't worth the money that's being asked for them.
4. Money can be MUCH better spent (like, almost on anything else, since you can get games for free)

I do buy some games from some companies though. Those that deserve my money. Overall though, I pirate about 95% of games.
>>
>>322882957

No, the "wizard" makes it available to anyone in public.

Saving pizzas there.

Pirate games because fuck you, thats why
>>
You people really don't have much to complain about. They are making games for profit, but at least you get a game out of it.

Ever googled: how to make money online or a similar search to look for opportunities?

I'll explain you how to make money online.

You make up bullshit ways of making money online.
And you present this guide as a fact.
So people keep visiting you to learn how to make money online.
And they will fail, but you will earn money online.

Given the actual market, videogames are a relatively clean and honest medium.
>>
>>322883043
You also can't copy food.
>>
>>322854336
Perfect
>>
I will take the bait and justify it for you.
Take a look at my situation. Do you know why I buy a lot of original games now? Because I want to support the industry I love.

How did I come to love this industry? Of course, by playing video games, and as a kid video games were really, REALLY expensive here in the Philippines. Taxes and shit really made them unattaiable for a kid like me, with no income.

So I played pirated games, for a lot of consoles and for the PC, since I can buy them really cheap, like for 2 bucks a game. Over the years all the games I've played were mostly because of piracy.

Now, when a game is so good, I regret pirating it and to show my support, I buy the game when it gets a little cheaper. Little by little, as I grew older with more disposable income, I bought more and more original games.

Now, I mostly buy original. If it weren't for piracy, I would have never loved video games in the first place because I had no money.
>>
>>322883008
>companies just don't deserve your money
See, I have a problem with these sort of arguments. And I pirate stuff.

Imagine if you work overtime, but your boss won't pay you extra. He says "you don't deserve it"; are you just going to just accept that? Would that be ethical?

You might say, "well, I'm legally guaranteed overtime if I work extra"; in which case, aren't companies also legally guaranteed to be compensated for their work? You can't pick and choose which law you want to apply to yourself.
>>
>>322883102
You can't just say what my wizard does. Even if the wizard did give out instructions on how to clone pizzas, most people won't be able to read them due to laziness, incompetence, or beliefs.

He still sold pizzas for that store.
>>
>>322883286
make games as a form of art , not just to bring in money. This is whats wrong with the industry.

If people like your games they will give you money , now we have people trying to sell the last remains of shit for as much as possible.
>>
>>322854226
in the era of paid reviews and no demos, it's the only way to test-drive a product before purchase. I buy the product if its good and the devs continue supporting it after release.
>>
>>322854226
i thought deneuvo reckt people's hdds

is that true still?
>>
Demos.

I download a game, test it out a bit. If it's shit. I stop playing. If it's good I buy a copy. I buy it because I want to support good games and hope the people who made the game I enjoy, make more.
>>
>>322883404
It was confirmed by LotF devs + it gives shitty performance
>>
>>322882779
Game of Thrones is a perfect example.

It's the most pirated TV show ever, yet it's extremely profitable and successful.

Pretty sure there's a link between the two.
>>
downloading shit is legal here.
uploading isnt.

I dont even have to justify myself when im legal to download cracked shit LOL
>>
>>322883384
>make games as a form of art

And fuck people and their families who are trying to make a living, amirite? My enjoyment obviously comes first.
>>
>>322883632
I work for a company that makes shitty browsergames. I hate my job and have given up on a lot of things cuz my boss is a people abusing asshole.

In my freetime however i use my abilitys to come up with my own ideas , concepts and when i find the time i make those into games and demos that are available on my website for free.

I also post on a blog game ideas and concepts without filing copyrights or any bullshit. Its about fun and art , if you do it only for money you are selling your soul.
>>
Piracy is still piracy no matter how you to try to justify it
people who try to justify it are just faggots acting like they are somewhat in the right of it
just like niggers who "didindo nuffin"

stop acting like niggers trying to play the victim you fags
