Square Enix's Shinra Technologies Dissolved in 2.2 Billion Yen Loss
Square Enix's cloud-based gaming service Shinra Technologies is being shut down, with the company suffering an "extraordinary loss" of 2.2 billion yen.
According Square's announcement, Shinra Technologies Japan and its New York branch are being dissolved. Liquidation of the New York and Tokyo divisions are estimated to be complete by March 31, 2019 and June 30, 2016, respectively.
All the usual suspects have a google-able article about it, including the site itself(though the site seems to be unreachable right now. Can still see the cache copy though.)
I never heard of it before now either. An earlier article about it though:
>chris roberts thinks it's a good idea
>tarn adams says the fuck is this shit yawn
Some things in this world really are just constants, I guess.
Square is synonymous with mismanagement. They're letting 14 die after it saved the whole company by refusing to increase the dev team and funneling its sub money into FF15, FF7 remake and the latest KH.

So you want them to funnel all their resources onto one game when they can limit the resources being used on said game to use the leftover resources to reach wider and difference audiences with 3 other games?
Realize what you're saying.
SE should've been releasing those games years ago. i mean did they want to wait until they were broke as fuck and on the verge of collapse to finally give the fans the games they want? apparently so
Well if it makes you feel better, they are also cancelling Triad Wars, that got announced in the last two weeks.
Literally only games they are releasing in the near future all having Final Fantasy in the title.
It was pretty much NVIDIA GRID, i.e. rendering the content on a server farm somewhere and then sending it to the user's system. This works okay for stuff like CAD where you can wait a few milliseconds for it to update with your changes, but this doesn't work okay for video games.
FFXIV is a cash cow currently, but it won't remain that way if they keep rehashing old content that the community hates. They've received enough backlash they publicly recognized how fucked end game is & promised to fix it.
