I got Destiny for Christmas! Just starting to play it now, looks

I thought guns might wind up doing cool shit, like a pistol that fires ass seeking rounds or bounces off walls.

Instead it might make your melee charge faster or leave a DoT.

Not GOTY material, but probably worth a play for a while.

If you like team based PvE then the raid will be keeping you busy enough. The story doesn't really exist in the vanilla content, but The Taken King's content is decent enough.

With all of the DLC it's probably a solid 7/10, if we're actually using the 10 point scale correctly.

It's not a very good game but its good enough to keep the average person playing

do story until you hit 40
do strikes then heroic strikes until you hit the proper light level to do kingsfall

don't do kingsfall until you're light level 290~ and make sure you have a high impact sniper

and the number 1 golden rule: DO YOUR FUCKING RESEARCH, nobody likes do raid with somebody who doesn't know what the fuck is going on

you can do PVP whenever you get bored of doing story or strikes since gear scales with your light level

I don't think I've ever been part of a public raid group that actually had a problem with this. Unless you hop into a lobby full of tryhards, it's really not that big of a deal. Most roles in normal Kingsfall fall down to a single person, rather than the group, and outside of some roles that switch around at the beginning, you don't really need to worry about that if you're a beginner. Plenty of people volunteer to show newcomers around.

So to be frank OP, you really don't have to do much research. Just enjoy the game, and let the guys you're with know (or better, just say you're new in whatever post you're making for the public group,) that you're new to it. Again, unless you surround yourself with the toxic crowd, most people in-game are pretty nice and laid back. So much so that I don't think I've been in a single raid group without someone using a bong.
