Meredith could've been reined with the Divine's intervention [who was a very reasonable woman] were it not for Anders blowing her up along with the rest of the Chantry administration. I have no love whatsoever for the Chantry, but Anders is the greatest of all idiots, and is to blame not only for his own actions but partly for Meredith's as well [although she is far from sane and would have gone on a rampage too eventually].

Anders is constant hypocrite throughout the game; he condemns Merrill's blood magic even though he is possessed demonically.

Meredith blames all mages for blowing up the church even though she saw first hand the person who committed the act ho had no relation to the circle.
