>>322792830 >Oldfag >Born when the game came out '89 here, game is fine for what it is, a first foray into 3d FF with a very strong first cd, a boring second cd and a barely there third cd.
Remaking it but changing the combat is not like a remake, more like a revisit of the story and setting and putting an entire new game under it.
It can be good or bad, but judging by FF15-13 I'm going with "bad".
maybe some of the newer fans enjoy this utter travesty that is modern final fantasy combat, more power to them, they will have yet another copy cat game using the same system. But it's not good enough for me, and I'm quite easy to please.
>>322794396 i used to think that >wasn't midgar something fast and aerith died here? >replaying game 14 hours in >just finished cosmo canyon >aerith still alive think midgar was 5-7 hours for me? after i leave midgar i started grinding anyway since i'm gonna achievement whore it
>>322794295 XIII was amazing I always hated being on a fuckhuge world map with a ton of filler Being a linear dungeon crawler was awesome The game starts with 30 hours of non-stop rpg main quest Pulse is boring, most of the time you're running around between the actually awesome bosses
>>322795962 >No world map FFX didn't have one, either. Don't see much bitching about that. Besides, a Cloud the size of a house on the old world map was ALWAYS jarring, even in 1997, and don't even try to be contrarian about that. A to-scale World Map would take far too long and be too large of a file if you want Cloud on foot at any point. Only thing you COULD do is make it to where you're always in some kind of a vehicle when on the world map. So, rewrite it to where Cloud and co. steal the buggy on their way out of Midgar (rather than Dio gifting it). Maybe you could play with scaling that way. >liberties in storytelling Most we've seen so far is Cloud glitching out before hopping on the train and Barrett wearing shades. The former fits, the latter is minor albeit weird. Hope they keep as much quirky stuff as possible. No doubt, they'll be forced to update the story to reflect Compilation stuff. >Press X to win combat Played FF7 lately? You can spam attacking with Hypers and beat the majority of the game. Occasionally some Trine enemy skill. I dare say this one will be more active and demanding. >Pandering to SJW'S The Honeybee Inn? We don't even know the extent of the changes made. It could just be reworded dialogue and fewer, less active men in that one room, FFS. Although if Tifa gets revealed to have a major wardrobe modification, I'm going to be pretty pissed, too. Hope she looks more like the initial vision and not AC. >Episodic We haven't even seen a pricing model, yet. I mean, these things never bode well, but it could be fine. And anyway, that doesn't affect the technical construction of the game.
>>322800612 >FFX didn't have one, either. Don't see much bitching about that. There was. Still a common complaint.
>Besides, a Cloud the size of a house on the old world map was ALWAYS jarring, even in 1997, and don't even try to be contrarian about that. Only for you. SD/chibi models and scaled up towns and areas on world maps are a staple of RPGs and other games. You can't be this fucking ignorant. Noone cried about those, and you're one of the few who cry about it now.
>>322800612 >Cloud the size of a house on the old world map was ALWAYS jarring, even in 1997 Old RPG maps never were supposed to be on a 1:1 scale because nobody gave a fuck before. Now you have mongoloids crying because the world map it's not open world and they're using an overworld.
>>322801032 Ultimately, we can be anecdotal and traditionalist back and forth all day, and it won't change a thing. Although, Cloud isn't as tall as a house. Sure as hell bugged me back then.
>>322801332 Because that was just part-and-parcel of the series. Tradition. Obviously it didn't stop it from being a great game.
>>322801359 That is true, I'll grant you that. And we're I in charge of this remake, I'd at least do the vehicle thing, maybe make Dio upgrade the buggy with "off-road" tires for crossing rivers. But, you know, if world maps are that off-off-putting these days, eh, just forget about it. I wouldn't know, I don't read player surveys or conduct market testing.
It's going to be a fucking shitshow. That's a given.
But the worst part, /v/. The worst part is that for the VAST majority of players, this is going to be their FIRST FF7. Maybe even their first FF in general.
I can see it now /v/. They're going to love it. This shitty episodic kingdom hearts combat bullshit raping of a classic is going to be absolutely DROWNED in praise and adoration by casuals and critics, and it's going to completely overshadow the original. When people talk about FF7 in the future, they're going to assume you're talking about the Remake.
I don't know how the fuck I'm going to cope with it /v/. It's going to drive me insane.
>>322805285 Because no science can predict what happens to a sentient mind when the synapses stop firing and the brain activity goes dark, and that's much more frightening than sitting back and watching a world you once loved become what seems to be a personal hell tailor made for you.
I recently completed FFVII for the first time on Steam and I've gotta say it's probably one of my new favorite games. I don't think a single game in the last ten years has ever made me put in 30 hours of gameplay within a week. Really gave me the magic feeling video games did when I was a lad. How the fuck do I find Yuffie and the other one? Visited Wutai but couldn't do shit there.
>>322805360 Except that the combat in FFVII is shit. If the remake will literally just be FFVII with better graphics and good combat (and I'm not saying it necessarily will) then it will just be better, period.
>>322806262 The low poly versions of all the characters is what gave it most of it's charm imo. That's partially why I'm worried the remake will be shallow garbage. It's also why I haven't started VIII yet.
>>322807314 There's absolutely no point in a remake doing the same shit when you have the original game to play. Just play the original over and over again to relieve your autism, don't expect the industry to pander to a mental illness.
I actually just finished replaying the game and the ending is so funny. Everybody's gearing up to go kill Sephiroth. Oh wait, Hojo is pumping a lot of mako his way. Why? BECAUSE HE'S THAT MUCH OF A DICK
>>322808213 We need them to buff the Ome Winged Angel Add one digit to his health, make Supernova drop you to 1hp, make him blow away big guard and block you from casting it again, and give him higher stats Making the final boss a pushover was underwhelming The visuals and the song made that fight but goddamn it was he weak And obviously change his final fight vs Cloud It's still easy but it should pose a threat like Shuyin from X-2 And after that Advent Children starts and ends with the majestic ass raping that the final AC Sephiroth battle should be
>>322808729 >everyone hates Genesis since he quotes Loveless in this cutscene >nobody actually played this and only knows him from this cutscene and the "we are monsters" scene He's pretty much Liquid Snake and his love for Loveless is just a quirk that was supposed to be annoying since both Sephiroth and Zack are tired of his shit I didn't mind him and him appearing in Nibelheim only to get btfo by Sephiroth was awesome
>>322794295 >What the fuck happened to gaming? I think the industry lost its "underground essence" somewhere in the middle of the PS2 era and started taking itself too seriously.
In FFVII, you crossdressed, played as a whore about to be fucked by a fat pimp, took jacuzzi baths with a ripped fuccboi and his pals, a beloved character actually died forever, you felt literal fear of Sephiroth, Tifa had humongous boobs, Yuffie pointed out this fact to her, etc etc etc...
Today, gigantic budgets are needed to make these AAA games and developers put imagination, wit and complicity with the player at bay and just create these cutiepie characters with no essence, throw in some orchestra ost which adds nothing to the experience and a retarded fighting system in order to appease 8 year olds.
Gaming is fucking stale and it will not change.
You know what games I have loved the most in the last decade? Cave Story (entirely made by ONE person), Shovel Knight and Minecraft - both with very humble origins. Also, MGSV and a bunch of JRPGs.
Fallout, Halo, FFXIII, almost any triple A...? get the fuck outta here...
>>322791676 There isn't one, if they had kept the original art style, no voice acting, same combat system, same dungeons/cities, same everything except updated graphics and extra content like a new dungeon then it probably would have been good. Unfortunately, the people asking for an FF7 remake actually just want an Advent Children video game.
>>322795198 >>wasn't midgar something fast and aerith died here? >>replaying game 14 hours in >>just finished cosmo canyon >>aerith still alive >think midgar was 5-7 hours for me? oh jeez, then you'll get like 80 hours from this game. Midgar is suppose to only be like the first 3 hours
>>322791676 As long as they keep the compilation faggotry to a minimum I'm fine.
>>322816891 I know this is bait but it saddens me that there really are so-called "gamers" out there who actually enjoy being confined to narrow pathways while being bombarded with cutscene after cutscene.
>>322818471 >if it plays like a JRPG that's not 7s problem, its issue is that most of it is an auto battle sim >all the characters and cutscenes are weebshit if you are going to be contrarian at least try to be objective
>>322799856 one of my favorite things to do in Secret of Mana once you got the dragon was to fly around and just look at the world map. Made the world seem bigger. Also had that neat hidden face in the ocean.
How is it a remake having an ARPG battle system offends you? Episodic, I can understand apprehension about, but people are making a bunch of buzzword claims due to paranoia about shit we know nothing of. I'm not going to go, "Well just go play the original / the PC version with mods if you want a touched up version of the same game," but everyone that loses their shit about the gameplay change don't seem to understand that this remake is not solely for the goddamn diehard fanboys; it's for.. everyone, new, old, casual, hardcore, american, japanese (with a preference for the original Japanese localization this time, thus no Mr. T cursing and hollering Barret).
Those saying the remake sucks solely because it isn't just like the original but with a fresh coat of paint are being entitled pricks about what they think things should be for their own appeal.
>>322822797 You're a hateful little shit about a video game. If you're legitimately this pissed about a gameplay swap from the old ATB system to an ARPG modern take, then you need to get some psychiatric help because you've got significant issues.
