so lemme get this straight. You hate Uncharted and The Last of Us because they remind you of movies? This is a problem because?
When I had a ps3 uncharted 2 was amusing. But I honestly cannot recommend them to others as good games. The 3rd game I felt suckered by, none of the story elements felt cohesive and it was just moving the game set piece to set piece with random nooks in the way.
Everything about LoU felt so easy because AI never reacts to Ellen Page.
I am bored with both titles, I really just want them to make some different games.
Because if I wanted to watch movies I'd watch movies.
Considering the vast majority of writers in videogames wouldn't be fit to write a fucking commercial why would I go to the inferior type of media to get my fill of movies?
uncharted does have some shitty gameplay, the climbing is boring as shit and the shooting feels so fucking outdated, it's just max payne 1 without slo mo but instead waist high walls.
i appreciate uncharted for it's setpieces and just casual fun though.
Last of us is a little deeper and better on the gameplay side, though it has too much walk and talk sections.
Mario doesnt have shallow gameplay (Zelda does, so)
Mario games have no story at all and are the best platformers ever, Uncharted games arent the best third person shooters ever.
I heard people criticized Uncharted for being like Indiana Jones and Tomb Raider therefore it's automatically shit. Is this true? By that logic, aren't Mass Effect and all Elder Scrolls games shit because they're like Star Wars and Tolkien fantasy?
>best platformers ever
please. surely you must jest. explain to me exactly why mario is better than fucking ratchet and clank or banjo kazooie or conker or crash.
Not him but mario games do ask more of the player to interact with the game. Like he said , minimal story but a lot of great 3d platforming. I'm by no means saying uncharted should have less story or be a 3d platform but at least have the core gameplay be stronger.
Uncharted 3 was garbage because the story was dogshit and the gameplay was average at best. None in the series are really examples of best third person shooter games though. Uncharted 2 was pretty fucking good though
>Last of Us was a SJW game with forced progressive lesbian relationship
>Uncharted 4 will be a SJW game with muh strong black womyn who need no man
Hmm, I really wonder why sensible people don't want to waste their money and time in that shit.
so then you admit it's not a carbon copy of Indiana Jones. Do you know what storyTELLing is? It's the reason why Disney and Pixar films are well-revered. Because they're phenomenal with TELLing storybook tales. And Uncharted is exceptional with TELLing adventure serial-type stories in the medium of games by giving control for a majority of gametime and diversifying the gameplay through environments, setpieces, amount of abilities, etc. It's simple but still requires skill.
Have you beat the games on Crushing? Enemies are bullet sponges, they just have heightened a.i. and you take more damage. Also, Uncharted 4 looks to be impoving everything by bringing more depth to the characters and evolving the level design to be more adaptable, natural and open. Watch the e3 demo again and pay attention to the details.
>well these people do a thing well in a different medium and this game tries to do that in a different medium
>so why isn't it good
Movies you sit in watch
Games you are activley doing something
nobody wants to sit there and watch some 2000s lucasarts-tier writing when they could be doing a thousand other things
elaborate, you buffoon. the ellie shit only happened because of DECADE-old hardware and if you played on survivor or grounded, the a.i.'s damn attentive. also, your health is diminished for your realism and there's realtime crafting, so I don't know what the fuck you're talking about, mongoloid.
uncharted writing is damn top-notch. characters act natural and not forced, acting is well-done, exposition is natural as well, character motivations are well-defined, dialogue and banter is great, there are a plethora of quotable lines, so I don't know where you're coming from. Have you even played 2?
do you just hate story in games or do you hate american movies? because that seems to be what you're getting at. uncharted and the last of us do the the standard cinematic campaign better than any other game on the market since they give you full control in all key moments and actually have fantastic stories. If you hate stories in games then I highly fucking hope you don't like metal gear, silent hill, resident evil, halo, doom, fallout, persona, final fantasy, yakuza, god of war, etc.
Settle down back there, chocolate!
The first shit I didn't like in that game and what was breaking my immersion was that a GROWN FUCKING MAN, that seems to be in a good enough shape, can't jump up/down what looks like 2m fences without a help of little girl, WHO BY THE WAY can give him a hand and pull him up, that said fence. Then, the AI of NPC (whatever you want to call them) is pretty bad. They stand around while you sneak. They are invisible to the enemy. Enemies, who have weapons, don't drop JACKS SHIT when you kill them, even tho that they were shooting at you with a rifle just a second ago. You can say about this game whatever you want, but FOR ME, this was a shitty experience. Oh, and where are the FUCKING KNIFES in this game? What the fuck happened to all of them? That black NPC dude has a knife, but you only have a glass shiv.
P.S. - Maybe all this has happened because I played a lot of survival games and stealth games.
oh you mean the series where you shoot or choke guys a couple f times in extremely restricted areas and the watch 5-hour long cutscenes?
gee sounds like fun
oh you mean that series where you jump on blocks, dodge things, and throw fireballs?
what do you even play if you hate simple gameplay or any type of stories in games?
simulators? those are the only games that count? ok then.
OP here. it was more cohesive and well-told. uc3 had better setpieces by far but a lot of characters were sidelined, barely developed, or had muddled motivations. also, the gameplay itself didn't bring too much new to the table. but me personally, what made uc3 a beauty was the added layer of depth it added to the characters and their relationships. for me that and ambition of the game itself was worthy enough to consider it a fantastic game.
>fanboy shitstorms are against the rules
MOOOOOOOOOM! THEYRE MAKING FUN OF PS4 AGAIN!
If I only thought The Last of Us was just OK at best, will I like the Uncharted series?
I thought the combat in TLoU was good and that the multiplayer was great, but during the SP it was broken up too often by boring walking and talking sequences and annoying puzzles (ladders/pallets). Also I didn't really care for the story so much, all the secondary character outcomes were predictable and overall it was just alright at best
>whenever there's a well rendered face, the background is empty, or frozen and blurred
so this is the power... of the PS4...
if you like fun, you'll love the uncharted series much more. just start with 2 or realize while playing 1 it gets much better and hold the contemporary context of which the game was designed in check
>last of us has side plot where main character is revealed to be a lesbo, and is no more relevant to the main game than if she were straight
>main game features big manly white guy killing minorities and a black chick in cold blood
I've only played Uncharted 1, didn't find the gameplay that enjoyable or the story even all that engaging. I can't comment on what the rest of the games are like though.
I thought TLoU was solid though not without it's flaws (and what game isn't?)
you can play the game though 90 percent of the time
if you hate it because it's linear, megaman and mario are linear
if you hate it because of simplicity, mario, zelda, and megaman are simplistic
if you hate it because it's not difficult, if you play on hard or higher it does have real and not artificial difficulty as ai imprives while damage increases
the story's great, characters are great, writing's great. why do you hate it?
oh...that's right. sorry I get it now
$400 for a device to play interactive movies. Welp You know Cinema is cheaper and plays better movies.
Calm down ;) Wanna watch New Order with me? I bought the popcorn. We can fuck after the credits roll.
This is objectively false. Mario Maker and user made levels all show that Mario has depth.
Additionally, Zelda has an extremely rich and dense story spanning several games. It's an excellent example of storytelling in games.
I know hating Nintendo is what the big kids do, but you provided horrible examples to try and discredit them.
jump, shoot, spin, dodge all with 3 to 4 buttons
slash with sword 2 different ways, use area-specific items, open doors, basic storybook narratives
your point being?
>rich and dense story
Nothing to do with >>322760816 but don't try to tell me Zelda's story is meaningful. You feel good when you beat the game, but it's not the story that brings you that feeling.
Play Uncharted 2, I really didn't like the first one but borrowed the second from a friend and it's much better. Better story, less repetitive gameplay, just a much more enjoyable game
I dont hate them, but you couldn't fucking pay me to play them past the campaign, although I have a ps3 and never bothered
Seriously, there's so much shit out there including cinematic games that I'd rather play than Uncharted/Tlou
If you enjoy them that's fine though
>there are people that honestly believe that the gameplay of space invaders 3D: little girl companion edition is superior to Super Mario Bros. 3
The progression in The Last of Us is really arbitrary. Joel and Ellie's relationship develops completely offscreen, and Ellie especially does not feel like a real person. I though that was intentional since she was raised in captivity more or less and Joel is a damaged psychopath but I can't chalk it up to anything other than poor writing. None of the side characters were memorable or added anything either, except for the creepy guy in the blizzard.
As for the gameplay, it's got a really simplistic stealth system and the Uncharted run-n-gun+platforming+setpieces works better than stealth+ladders.
Keep your /tv/ memes out of this, it's an actual word and you know what I mean.
Not him but he probably thinks uncharted is bland too but still enjoys the journey
Tlou is too heavy on muh emotions bullshit, at least with uncharted you can have fun as a leaned back treasure hunter
I hate most games because they are simple
>defeat pathetic ai baddies
>solve simple puzzles
>watch cgi cutscene
When you distill games to such a low level everything is simple you mongo
Don't get why you people are so defensive of this games, I don't mind them myself but if that anon wants a little more depth who are you to tell him otherwise fuccboi?
>/v/ shits on uncharted because it's simple and western
I think this needs to be posted.
ignore the crunchyrroll ad and his personality if you don't like them. listen to his words
The question which relates to quality is not whether a game reminds one of something else, but whether it is more memorable than reminiscent.
Furthermore, although movie-like games aren't necessarily bad or even mediocre, they are often lame and unoriginal. I think this may be a problem with "CGI" stuff in general - sometimes it isn't bad, but throughout the 21st century they have become a medium for voice acting and showing off more than a style for the object itself.
you're contrarian because you REFUSE to acknowledge or examine the opposing viewpoints of the other side of the spectrum. you're to up your own ass and just think you're right. nothing anyone else says matters. that's not discussion. that's just spewing out your opinions and shitting on others'.
you're right, its a forum, not debate class
furthermore people are allowed to dislike what you like and you literally cannot stop em. umad? (although I think uncharted is pretty cool)
If you hate TLoU and Uncharted, but then defend games like The Witcher 3 (glorified conversation simulators with shit gameplay) you quite literally void your entire opinion on video games.
How dare you disagree with my opinion you little weab faggot.
Please do not blame others for your own inability to understand their words.
The more influence a game has from popular culture, the more necessary it is for the initial inspiration to predominate lest the derivation becomes too obvious and banal to ignore for the player.
I know, TLoU actually has gameplay.
You literally cannot shit on TLoU with the movie meme and then claim TW3 is a good 'game'.
>people still defend shit games with shit gameplay
L I T E R A L L Y a Telltale game tier talking simulator. Movie tier trash. :^)
Sounds like you're talking about Gears of War 1 m8, you could just keep on going about your day when the dialogue was playing in TLoU.
It was like picking up an audio recording in BioShock, you just shoot niggas and let it play in the background.
>all this butthurt because goty isn't sony exclusive
/v/ hates Uncharted because it's a movie game but worships metal gear when it's LITERALLY a movie game with a WORSE story and 5x as much cutscenes
if you hate western games and anything western JUST FUCKING SAY IT STOP BEATING AROUND THE FUCKING BUSH
I think that Uncharted benefits from its gameplay
A lot the set pieces that people praise were fun because of jumping around and shooting people, something you can't do in movies
first witcher 3 and now mgsv, when will sonyniggers ever stop being triggered?
>all this sony butthurt because someone on the internet didn't praise uncharted
Can only speak for Uncharted but,
Honestly the gunplay that makes up 90% of the game is just terrible. There are also many many tedious enemy encounters with the fat guys with armor and shotgun. The guns don't have any punch to them, enemies are giant bulletsponges, the movement of Drake is floaty and the "climbing" gameplay where you're just glued to a surface and spamming forward and x to advance is about as unengaging as things go.
The story and graphics? Amazing, you can actually show this game to someone who doesn't play games and feel like they won't cringe.
But the actual GAME part? It's not great.
