It's quite underrated, to be honest.
Some people still "hate" the game, since it used to be the weakest title in the series back when 1-4 was all we got. It has neat atmosphere and pretty gud story though.

And in case someone's once again new to this PC gaming stuff: Use a program like DaemonTools Lite to mount the ISOs of 2 & 3, and then run their installers like always.
The SH1 is a PS1 rip that you gotta emulate.
The "sh2proxy" fix works as a no-cd crack as well, and is included in the pack.

The whole room mechanic was brilliantly executed. Things got very spooky during the last half.

SH4 is also miles above anything released afterwards with the Silent Hill's name.

Exactly, it might not be the best from the original SH's but it has it's own nice atmosphere (being trapped in the room through the majority of the game) and I also liked the backstories of the npcs.


The ghosts were a pain the ass though

Eh, it depends. The monsters are usually constructs loosely based on a character's psyche. This could be something as direct as a memory of a person or hobby, or something vague like guilt, lust, or religious imagery.
