As a matter of fact, yes I do consider myself a gamer. And that does not make me a sexist muhsoggyknee harasser or any of the bullshit lies that sjw and gaming journalists are telling everyone.
WHen people ask me this in real life I just say "well I play videogames a lot"
I go out of my way to make sure I don't look like I play video games and act like a clueless retard when people bring them up
I am a very big fan of them videogames, yes.
That said, the word gamer has been corrupted by the narrative and became one of those words or expressions you can never quite say without a little sting in the back of your head because it conjures a lot of technically unrelated but annoying imagery.
Such as "wicked sense of humor".
Which hurts more? Other people's shame or your own shame you have for yourself.
For what purpose?
Seriously it's not talking about vidya without sounding autistic.
>you play video games
>yeah when I have free time from work
Also to answer OP, yes I call myself a gamer.
My own shame. Especially when I'm in a boardroom filled with higher-ups in expensive suits talking about serious corporate issues and all I'm thinking about is hentai and vidya.
Gamer is like nigga, at the begining was created to offend
I don't mind when the term is used to describe people who play video games, but it gets on my nerves when people use it to describe their lifestyle.
>"I am a gamer"
Then there's the whole industry devoted to marketing to these people who call themselves gamers.
No, I do a lot of other things. I spend more time at the gym every day than vidya. I probably spend like 0.5-1 hour on vidya each day. I barely even touch my PS3 and 4 these days.
I am not a gaymer. I play video games, sometimes.
Playing video games doesn't warrant a disgusting label that has a lot of negative associations attached to it.
I'd rather be called a ''fourchanner'' than be labeled as a gaymer. I do spend more time on 4chan than playing video games.
so we're doing the equivalent of debating if it's okay to call fellow black people niggas?
do you identify as a nigga?
>tfw black friends that are okay with you calling them niggas
nothing beats it
> mid 2000s
> people embarrassed to call themselves a gamer because G4 culture / not wanting to be associated with "cool nerd" culture
> gramblegupp happens
> "I'm a proud male gamer, and now SJW will stop me (:"
Pretty much this. If someone asks me out of the blue if I play video games, I probably already know them well enough that they know I'm a pretty average guy and not too weird. Video games would just come off as my hobby at that point.
Granted, I don't go into detail about exactly how much time I invest. 20 hours in a game is probably considered "a lot of time in a video game" to most people.
>replace "bitch nigga" with "casual"
>replace "real nigga" with "PC master race"
>apply to rap songs as needed
what do you think /v/?
Although it is easily my biggest hobby I try not to identify myself with gamers in social situations
Only really my family and some friends who I game with really know I like videogames and even then I try to give off a normie persona
I play and enjoy videogames more then most people on /v/ I imagine, but I hide my power level, so only on a anonymous image board would I call my self a "gamer" and even then I hate that word for whatever reason
> considering games a hobby
Embarassing. Get a real hobby. I like vidya like I like tv it kills time and I love some forms of it, but I dont consider either a hobby.
You wouldnt call yourself a tv-er.
Good question. I dont know what should or shouldnt be considered a hobby, but I know whst my hobbies are. Im a wrestler/boxer.
I guess anything where you improve functional skills or produce some kind of material, but you do it for fun?
