Who is canonically the most powerful Nintendo protagonist?

Shulk and Kirby (anime Kirby is strongest iirc) are 2 good contenders. Grima Robin could probably at least be pretty high tier, not sure if strongest though. And then you got Bayonetta with demons n' shit. Samus has some interesting shenanigans with the black hole gun in Prime and the gravity calculation if you want to buy into it.

If Kirby is the most powerful, how strong are Meta Knight and Dedede in comparison? Or 0 and Nightmare?

Weakest would most likely be Captain Olimar. Canonically the size of a coin, has to rely on others to do his work for him. For his size though, he must be pretty strong as he can pick up and throw people his own size.

Are we talking about in general, or in Smash?
In general, it's probably one of the many all-mighty, creation gods, like the three Golden Goddesses, God Shulk, or Arceus.
If we're talking about Smash characters, top tier is probably God Shulk, followed by Rosalina or Kirby. Ness, Grima Robin, Mewtwo, Ganondorf, Pit and Palutena are also probably high up in terms of power.
