Some say the fantasy genre as a setting (that is the medieval fantasy setting) is worn out. Futuristic settings to a lesser extant as well.
Which settings do you feel should be more represented in games and which are your favorite settings?
Bonus points for obscurity.
Modern fantasy
Ocean exploration, honestly.
I feel like it doesn't get enough love and the games usually coming out for it are shit. Subnautica's alright, but it gets boring after a while and they really need to add some major content instead of the dribble they've been doing for the past few months.
I just want to explore the ocean and find weird shit while freaking myself the fuck out.
Also, dinosaurs are pretty cool, but with ARK going now, I think multiple games will start overusing the concept to death.

We need more Dieselpunk settings
>>322709451
What about final fantasy?
The 1930's
>>322709687
Only FFXV is modern fantasy
>>322709668
>Dieselpunk
???
unfamiliar term
something like Mad Max?
>>322709952
basically, WW2 with the steampunk treatment
>>322709318
Space settings that are really freaky and hostile in the Metroid sort of way with good atmospheric music.
Gorgeous tropical islands with bright colors are also cool. One of the main reasons I played Tomb Raider.
I like warhammer fantasy more than 40k
>>322710078
That's pretty neat. Some shmups like Pro-gear have that style.
Victorian times
>>322709318
Game of Thrones.
>>322709952
>how do I google?
Dieselpunk is actually closer to Fallout, minus the whole end of the world stuff.
>>322710078
that's a really shit way to describe dieselpunk m8, especially considering how shit steampunk is
Celtic Netherworld
I always liked the setting in Alien and Aliens. It's the future but the technology is still pretty primitive.
>>322709318
Snowy little towns or neighborhoods.
cyberpunk
>>322710285
I though fallout was more "atomic 60's" type thing.
Not dieselpunk.
>>322710285
why didn't OP just google his question?, I'm sure it has been discussed before
get bent
>>322709318
I wouldn't mind a sci-fi with fantasy elements mixed in.
>>322710448
Oh god I love these, especially at night.
Hell. You'd think there'd be more by now.
>>322710497
>I though fallout was more "atomic 60's" type thing.
It is. Dieselpunk is a stupid term anyway. The world we live in is a diesel world.
>>322710497
Nah that's retro futuristic
>>322709451
I really like 90s JRPGs with their near-modern fantasy settings like you see in Final Fantasy VII and VIII.
>>322710212
I really like the time period but they should explore places other than england.
Edwardian period.
>>322710448
>>322710457
Literally there are billions of these
>>322710759
sure, high adventure in colonial Africa
>>322709318
Game set in the time and area of the Aztecs, but with all the mythological things being real.
>>322709318
Surreal iron age fantasy
>>322709318
Ancient Egypt/Mesopotamia
>>322711216
Examples?
It would be interesting to see more games made about actual myths/folklore. Not a bastardization of them, or completely new work of fiction using the name of a preexisting creature.
How about a 'crystal caves environment', I think it's got a lot of potential.
>Fantasy setting where you have to go lower to find the source of evil plaguing the land.
>Sci-fi setting where you have to recover haywire mining robots or maybe hang out in a mining colony.
>Horror setting where the crystals collapse, have to platform and think strategically to escape or risk falling to your death. Maybe you need to tie yourself to safe environments and force to crystals to collapse underneath you to save yourself from monsters. -But you have to frantically untie yourself when monsters start approaching you.
>Indie-style game where the crystals undulate colours like a rainbow as you explore vast underground cave ecologies with different creatures and running rivers
>>322711072
I imagine sim city with a human sacrifice aspect.
>>322711360
Kind of captures the imagination I feel.
>>322710902
I don't think you know what cybperpunk is.
>>322711414
>create civilization
>immediately start being a dick and causing all sorts of destruction and chaos
>native people are scared and start building alters and making sacrifices
>give them food and shit and destroy their enemies
>build up a huge following
>get bored
>leave
>come back years later
>everyone's speaking Spanish
Anywhere from 1920-1938
>>322711874
Fund it
>>322709318
It couldnt be any more worn out.
>>322711641
Don't act like there are dozens of cyberpuck games out there
>>322712230
