I like X more, although it probably has more problems than VII.

Overall though, the tropical feel is comfy as hell and the game itself feels like it has a fairly unique aesthetic, where-as the grimy tech fantasy of VII feels fairly generic.

I like both of them though.

The endgame isn't nearly as good (Chocobo breeding takes for fucking ever and Ruby and Emerald are on some other shit, fucking hell) and the characters being pretty much interchangeable, thanks to the materia system, was a major fault to me. That said, despite being interchangeable, the characters themselves were much more memorable than in FFX, as were the environments.

FFX is better at the very end, with all the optional shit, but FF7 is better throughout.

I feel like a lot of FF games tend to have fans dedicated to certain fans. For example, 8's a game I'll never understand but it's got a lot of diehards who love it.

I'll say this; if you don't like it by the time you leave Lindbulm (the second major city in the game, still early in Disc 1) then feel free to give up. It gets better but if you're not convinced by then, then it's probably not for you.

Also, if you do get far enough, play the Chocobo Hot & Cold minigame enough times to at least get a handful of Chocographs. The game doesn't really make it a point that you have to replay the minigame quite a few time until you actually start getting anything good, including Chocobo upgrades to cross impassable terrain.

I shan't lie, X is a good game. It has good plot, though the twists are not all that twisty. The music is excellent, see pic related. The combat is very well done, the summons make a good strong feature in the game, rather than being a spell with a funky animation, and the characters are rather likeable (Wakka being the exception.) Blitzball was a fun minigame, though slightly over the top with it's depth. Not much Post-Game though, or freeroam. Not that the content wasn't there, but it felt shallow. "Go out and kill one of everything." "Play in the lightning for 3 years" "Xatu Butterfly Collection"

IX will still always be my favourite however. The characters were all loveable in their own way with their own personal struggles and mini-stories, the combat wasn't far from X, the story was great, with loads of twists and turns and arse-fuckery popping up out of nowhere, yet still making sense once the sense was revealed. The music was top-tier, earning extra kudos from the complimenting it did with cutscenes, what with there being no spoken word.

It's a minigame dude. If it were 3-dimensional you would need to add a way to show off characters in a 3 dimensional space, account for angles in shots and passing, and make a swimming system that feels good enough for a sports minigame.

I'm not saying Blitzball wouldn't have been cool in 3D, but it would've been more effort than there's ever been in any minigame in Final Fantasy. Blitzball in 2D is less shiny, but its still a fun game. "It's not X" isn't a good criticism.

pick one. the stat degredation was so massive that having higher stats amounted to very little. this is even worse when the stats themselves can be randomized anywhere from 50% to 150% (or whatever the real % are). that means the better you get, the less consistent you will be. also having 1 HP does nothing to stop you from actually playing, leaving the question why bother having a drain skill? oh and worst of all, there's no way to pass the time quicker and time stops when actions are taken. so in order to get the sigil for wakka (who for some reason has one of the strongest moves in the entire series) you have to sit there for literal hours watching time go by. that or watch the AI do completely stupid shit.

worst of all, they stick on a flat plane instead of letting you use the entire sphere. in addition, you can't knock anyone out the sphere like the intro video shows tidus doing with a shit eating grin on his face.
