What happened to crossovers being so prevalent in the early 2000s? They made up some of the best games of the time, but now things like #FE don't even do justice to the original franchises justice.
Will we ever get any good crossovers that aren't just leftovers from project cross zone?
left or right /v/?
>tfw mvc4 will never happen thanks to Disney.
>even if it did it would only star people in upcoming movies for normies who don't know shit about comics
What kind of crossovers do you even want?
There is no one to crossover with Capcom in fighting games now that Disney bought Marvel and SNK is trash.
Mario and Sonic is a sports game released every two years or whatever.
What else can even crossover? Mass Effect vs Dragon Age? MGVS x Witcher?
The age of crossovers is dead, at best you'll get shitty indie crossovers like Undertale visits 5 Nights at Freddy's.
>Mario and sonic at olympics
>Being at all representative of their franchise
SMT x Fire emblem had a lot of potential, and Tekken x street fighter is now just "Tekken 7: feat Akuma!"
DMC x Bayo would be cool, maybe even some sort of valve crossover.
>DMC x Bayo would be cool, maybe even some sort of valve crossover.
Thank god I'm not the only one. A couple nights had the epiphany of Dante using a maid costume and dancing while killing demons with the guns.
And he was still based
>Tekken x street fighter is now just "Tekken 7: feat Akuma!"
they're still making Tekken x Street Fighter, Akuma in Tekken 7 is just them giving fans a sign its still happening and for people who are disappointed Akuma isn't in SFV
You had one fucking job, Capcom... Sega... Namco... Nintendo...
>there will never be a Marvel vs DC fighter
>there will never be a Nintendo vs Capcom
>there will never be a TvC 2
>there will never be a Marvel vs DC fighter
Capcom tried to arrange that back n the early 90s, it didn't work out because neither company wanted their characters to be beaten by those of the rival company.
People finally came to their senses and realized that crossovers are terrible most of the time. There is no way you can take two or more series and shove them into one whole thing without it become a giant, badly written clusterfuck
>There might be Mk vs DC 2 featuring Earth 3 villains
thats a damn shame im sure black widow could beat superman in a fighting game if the black widow player was just better. But they wouldnt understand that, Either side could be beat by anyone.
What would your idea for a crossover game be /v/?
>Nightmare somehow summons the power of the Eternal Flame and the Great Ones
>Sigfried, Chosen Undead, Curse Bearer, and The Hunter have to work together to defeat him
>Soul Calibur combat but with characters and locations from the souls games
>Chosen Undead, Solaire, Hunter etc trying to fight for good to stop the nightmares from taking over
>O&S just there because why not
>Could even use great ones like Amygdala
She Hulk, Thor, Hercules, Scarlet Witch, and Cap would be able to hold their own quite easily, but DC has the Martian.
It still hurts that this was silently cancelled in the planning stages only five minutes after it was announced.
Cancelled only a few months into planning in 2003 due to ArcSys not being able to work out how to properly incorporate Capcom characters into the GG-style of gameplay.
>yfw capcom goes to warner bros
>DC VS CAPCOM
>DC VS WARNER BROS
what's your favorite crossover guys?
Mine is pic related
>SMT x Fire emblem
Please don't remind me.
TxSF is still in development. Akuma was just a hyped guest char and a taste of what TxSF would be like. And considering how he looks in Fated Retribution, TxSF is going to be much better than SFxT.
Collide, the one with just sonic and megaman was.
Unite, the one with all the other IPs was shit except for a few moments. It's actually seen as one of the reasons the MM comic got shut down
And the businesses will never do a crossover unless there is a proven market interest in that product.
Why is Capcom the only one who does full on crossovers anyway? Tekken vs KOF or something like that could be cool
She looks okay in MvC3 in my opinion
She looks great in the cinematic supers with the camera angle changing and stuff since
normal gameplay view highlights how shit she looks though
What happened to Tekken X Street Fighter ? Wasn't it suppose to usher in new age of god tier fighting game by crossing two of the best fighting game franchises or something ?
>someone remembers this game
>TFW playing as the rooster
>tfw MvC died with Skullgirls
>tfw no more MvC games will ever be developed
>tfw SNK is broke now so no CvS3
>tfw Capcom vs. ASW already failed
>tfw all the Capcom fighters are dead except for SF
>tfw Nintendo likely won't do a crossover unless it has baby level shit difficulty
How are fighting games more alive than they've ever been, yet more dead than they've ever been?
I also wish crossovers were more prevalent. Not even just among fighting games but if there were more crossover games among video game franchises that were somehow still in the same genre as the original franchises, that'd be sweet. I'd like to see a Tomb Raider/Uncharted game. That'd be great. Metroid x Halo would never happen but it'd be cool too.
The ones that I just mentioned. Outside of fighting games, another good one would be MGS x Splinter Cell or even MGS x Deus Ex.
In terms of fighting games, Nintendo vs. Capcom, Square-Enix vs. Capcom, even EA vs. Capcom would be sweet although the jewing would be something fierce.
Disney vs. Capcom would probably never happen but it'd be fucking great if we got Disney characters, Marvel characters, and Star Wars characters all against Capcom fighters.
I never understood people's obsession with Mai. She literally only cares about Andy's dick.
Half of her monologue in every single game is talking about Andy and she is literally only there as an extension of that character.
And Chun-Li only cares about muh father and Bison, and Ryu about his right to be homeless. What matters is their playstyle
to people who actually play the gamesand visual design.
tfw no Green Goblin
>What happened to crossovers?
Nigga look around you
>Lego Dimensions: Crossover the Game
>Disney Infinity: Marvel, Star Wars, and Disney crossover
>Sm4sh is full of third party characters
>Even Mario Kart had some crossover
Crossover media has been flooding the market ever since The Avengers came out. Its more prevalent than ever now.
Crossovers generally only happen when many companies are doing super poorly at the same time.
We saw another one not too many years ago (SFxTekken), and we might see some new ones in the years to come, but the late 90s to early 2000s crossover era isn't likely to ever come back.
>I never understood people's obsession with Mai.
It's her design you dumbass. Nobody gives a shit about Andy, not even SNK given how he looks in the current game.
Also her moveset is pretty fun most of the time.
>because of PC and Mobile game sales
that's twisting the truth a little
they're abandoning pachinko machines because the pachinko industry itself is shrinking
Just imagine it though.....
>Nintendo vs. Capcom vs. Sega vs. Bandai Namco
>In the same style fighting system as MvC, no retarded Smash Bros systems
>Mario vs. Sonic Vs. Ryu Vs. Goku
One can dream
There's a lot more going on than just any one thing, but the base things to note are:
PC and phone sales are doing exceptionally well for such a small company.
The chinese in charge bought SNK to make videogames.
The management wants to make videogames.
Pachinko sales are down, and will decrease further with the new regulations, so it's as good a time as any to resume videogames.
The SNK that's making KOF 14 isn't the same SNK that made 94-2001, or the SNK that made 2002-XIII. It's a combination of very old staff and new employees who know how to work with modern day tools.
Honestly don't think it would work. Too similar, but too different at the same time. Either the characters from different games would have different buttons, or they'd have to change a lot of shit for one set of characters.
> Trying to do Hazamas chains without a Dedicated button, or Zatos little Eddie with 4 buttons.
Capcom did crossovers 4 the same reason comics did: lack of money and new fresh ideas. Now Street fighter is a media giant, they dont need to shill thier characters by making they fight against a rival company.
>WB publishes both DC and Marvel Lego games
>no DC/Marvel fightan game
>Marvel wont allow console games anymore, only ios dogshit like Contest of Champions
>WB will only let NRS make fighting games
>Wally West is dead or just Wally In Name Only across all media
>WB will only let NRS make fighting games
>no Shaolin Monks 2
>no MK: Mythologies that doesn't suck
>no Konquest Mode made into its own game
>no Puzzle Kombat 2
Yes, and by 2000, no one no longer cared. 2D was considered obsolete, and Sony even had policies in place to obstruct releases of 2D games on their machine.
Average Joe didn't care about 2D, and wanted new shit.
More like consumers don't understand how videogames work. While it's true they never fully did, at least back in the olden days, they had the general idea.
For instance, pic related, while a masterpiece, was considered on release 'pixelated,' and not 'HD enough like muh mortal kombat.'
But moving from these super advanced sprites to 3d models hasn't made things any less pixelated. Still, it will probably help their review scores. KOF 13 lost to SF4, MK, and even the DC shit fighters, simply because it wasn't 3d.
