Yes since not all attacks are blockable and they reduce stamina. Rolling is what makes SL1 fist runs possible. If I could balance a Souls game I'd make armor more important and only give rolling to light armor/no armor users.

You can beat the game on sl1 without ever rolling. Balder shield + 15 buffed with magic shield blocks everything and I mean everything.
