Best units are Ike, Oscar and Zihark, in that unit. Not saying they're my favorites, but I've beaten this shit 5 times (I was autistic enough to want Ashnard for Skirmish maps, never did make it to 15 times) and these 3 made the game easy-mode every time. Shame the generals are pretty meh in PoR though, they're definitely not Killiam or Oswinning.

the only thing to note about FE9 is that the difficulty system was messed up for the English release, so the game's normal mode is very easy for a Fire Emblem veteran. this is in contrast to FE10's normal mode, which is actually pretty brutal

The Tellius saga is much better than Valkyria Chronicles in that regard, but it still isn't great. It's almost always a token "race" (if you can call laguz a race) and the relationship is always one way. There's minor discord among the dragons and crows with the other types of laguz, but they all are distrusted by humans.
What I'd like to see in a game is a less polar system similar to our own world. Whites hate blacks, latinos hate whites, blacks hate whites, asians hate blacks, etc. Maybe add in a religious dimension where Christians hate Jews, Muslims hate Jews, Jews exploit Christians, and so forth atop that structure, and don't make it 1:1 aligned with races (ex. the Catholic Church being very involved in Christianizing Latin America to the point that there's now a Latin American pope) and you can do some powder keg shit with it.
The only thing RD did wrong was have too many reinforcements and too large of battlefields
Laguz shit started with PoR and Kaga was gone from Fire Emblem after 5. It was a slow and steady degeneration after his departure, moving away from the geopolitics that dominated the first 5 games. Both PoR and RD tried to salvage that but injected furshit into the mix, so it's a mixed blessing.

6/7/8/9 all had a nice chunk of supports that gave tons of backstory and developed what is otherwise a fairly bland cast of characters. Awakening just played on archetypes 90% of the time

Its bland, open maps and [lack of] map objective variety are objectively worse than older entries'. The gameplay is easier than ever with the broken pair-up system, tons of support bonuses, and other changes.
The story is simple and predictable but serviceable. The characters are many and often likeable, but particularly animu-esque and one dimensional. The focus on being able to marry all units and the removal of non-romantic supports (sans the generic ones between siblings and parents/2nd Gen children) was a disappointment for me.
Despite its problems, and preferring the old games massively, I still sunk a ton of time into it to complete the support list. Go ahead and play if you think it looks good.

We don't. The best possible scenario is if a Japanese indie or Western indie (excluding Germany or Russia) who was imbued with Real Fire Emblem™ during their youth spends time to develop a good tactical RPG.
The reason why I exclude Germany and Russia is because their history with tactics games involves garbage shit like King's Bounty, Blackguards, and a host of other tactical games that are boring flat hex grids. Fuck both of those countries, seriously.

Micaiah was indeed awful, as was everything with the Brand, but the conclusion of Ike was more than worth it. Ike's wrap-up happens at a time when, mechanically, you have to whittle down your squad to only like 9 people you send into the tower, which makes it double-powerful at a time it really needs to be.
Contrast this with the final fight in Awakening and you can see that even RD comes above that. No matter how derisive you are toward RD, at least it's not Awakening

There's a support library where you can re-read PoR's supports that you've seen. A small support increase between characters with A-supports in PoR Coins for the blacksmith Stat increases for units at level -/20

PoR was tighter but the conclusion was off, simply because the game was destined to be a cliffhanger (being part of a saga)
but I think that the emotional payoff of the conclusion of RD is enough to sidestep the mediocre Micaiah chapters. And that's something that couldn't've been done in PoR because PoR necessarily had to lead to RD by design.

>>322674318 It does in Radiant Dawn at least. Level ups by Bonus EXP always give strictly 3 stats, no more, no less, unless you capped a bunch already. Raising it to 99 and then leveling normally on the next map however still raises stats as normally dictated by growth rates.
I think Path of Radiance doesn't do this though and Bonus EXP is no different from normal leveling.
I started playing it recently. I can't bring myself to carry on. I'm at the chapter where Mist and Rolf join you. The game has a fucking annoying habit of giving you new units then taking them away for a mission or two. I just want Gatrie back, mang.
