Best units are Ike, Oscar and Zihark, in that unit. Not saying they're my favorites, but I've beaten this shit 5 times (I was autistic enough to want Ashnard for Skirmish maps, never did make it to 15 times) and these 3 made the game easy-mode every time. Shame the generals are pretty meh in PoR though, they're definitely not Killiam or Oswinning.
>>322644990 Nah, but I'd argue the sequel is. >Sothe is a fucker >Micaiah is unimpressive >awkward pacing with you switching to an entirely new set of units Only redeeming feature was Ike killing a goddess, motherfucker gets shit done.
>>322643482 subhuman scum best support system in any of the fire emblems okay plot that is obviously meant to flow into a sequel the sequels plot is absolutely batshit insane, but it has the best gameplay of a fire emblem has some of the best prepromotes in any of the fire emblems, and are often much more fun than to use than the growth characters, Stefan is best swordmaster
>>322652820 I do like genealogy but I think, even tho Rd has a below average story it has the best gameplay of any fe game. The level design + 3 classes and character designs make it my second favorite. I wish they didn't fuck up supports. Genealogy is probably my 3rd favorite, then 7, 8, and awakening. Really tho, I love all the games a lot. Fe is my favorite game series
the only thing to note about FE9 is that the difficulty system was messed up for the English release, so the game's normal mode is very easy for a Fire Emblem veteran. this is in contrast to FE10's normal mode, which is actually pretty brutal
>>322653976 >>322654336 >>322654773 >>322655180 People think Fire Emblem's got it rough with localization because of lewd dialogue and risk of losing your face touching. They aint gotta fear shit compared to what these games got put through.
>>322655986 Because it shows all sides having their ugly faces and personalities. It's not like Beorc are portrayed as well meaning but sick in the head with Laguz being muh precious dindu nuthins that didn't deserve this war I wish I wasn't Beorc ;_;
>>322656135 Characters who capped any stats will have a +2 to their base in that stat from the start and a fraction of weapon EXP also carries over. Also there's a new thing called Bonds which are passive supports family members and other close characters have. A rank supports in PoR will become a Bond in RD.
>Soren, Sothe, and Jill slowly soften up (with dedicated cutscenes) and stop calling people subhumans >meanwhile, Valkyria Chronicles just does a 180 on Rosie's personality as soon as they see Darcsen refugees crowded and hungry
The Tellius saga is much better than Valkyria Chronicles in that regard, but it still isn't great. It's almost always a token "race" (if you can call laguz a race) and the relationship is always one way. There's minor discord among the dragons and crows with the other types of laguz, but they all are distrusted by humans.
What I'd like to see in a game is a less polar system similar to our own world. Whites hate blacks, latinos hate whites, blacks hate whites, asians hate blacks, etc. Maybe add in a religious dimension where Christians hate Jews, Muslims hate Jews, Jews exploit Christians, and so forth atop that structure, and don't make it 1:1 aligned with races (ex. the Catholic Church being very involved in Christianizing Latin America to the point that there's now a Latin American pope) and you can do some powder keg shit with it.
The only thing RD did wrong was have too many reinforcements and too large of battlefields
Laguz shit started with PoR and Kaga was gone from Fire Emblem after 5. It was a slow and steady degeneration after his departure, moving away from the geopolitics that dominated the first 5 games. Both PoR and RD tried to salvage that but injected furshit into the mix, so it's a mixed blessing.
>>322659119 RD slowed it down by so much it's kinda boring to watch, also as it still uses your hit rate, and has a zero chance of critting it means gamble is a shit skill for your trueblades, who often need to rely on those crit.s
>>322660327 I'm okay with the rebalancing. I mean I love 4 and 5 and their ridiculous OP skills, but I'm also okay with the nerfs the skills got. I kinda like the way Awakening handled skill proccing and damage, the problem with it was the every character had bloated stats and every character could get most skills so the nerfs didn't matter when you literally couldn't /not/ proc a skill by late game.
>>322660602 Aye, fates skill's seem pretty balanced now for example. With the exception of galeforce awakenings skills were fairly fine too, the proc ones atleast, just as you said, everyone having 40 in a stat minimum, it goes a bit crazy. I hope theyll bring back proper status staves next game, i miss those things.
>>322660989 Yeah same. For a game where they wanted to shove as much as possible into, it sure is weird how many little things they arbitrarily removed. My guess is that status staves were removed because of the utter lack of real terrain and overall small size of most maps.
>>322661218 Probably, plus laziness in balancing them, as if they were put in theyd probably have #/MAG, and due to how bloated stats are you can already use psychic on a majority of the field in most of awakenings maps.
>>322662035 >even if it's hard to really feel attached to any of them with the limited-as-fuck support system. How is it limited? It's much improved since you don't have to have two characters sitting beside each other constantly anymore
>>322662035 IMO the best part about 9's gameplay is the variety. Both 9 and 10 had some great maps, along with BEXP being given for doing extra, unnecessary objectives. It's a shame more games in the series haven't rewarded such exploration of possible completion states.
>>322662632 >You get to see one complete relationship, and then get dick-teased 2/3rds of the way through another one. That's exactly the same as the previous 3 games though, how the fuck is it limited?
>>322662748 I'd say that's just a problem of making each individual support boost too strong. I want to see all the supports in one playthrough. Hell, maybe just make the first 5 supports count towards bonuses, and the rest extra? that would work.
>>322662632 Except thats by far the better way to do as compared to matchmaking.jpg that older games used and the unlimited supports awakening/fates uses. PoR's style allowed supports to flow as the story progressed, which is they always should have been.
>>322663218 That's fine from a gameplay standpoint but then you still have awakenings problem of like 80% of the support convos being generic because so many people can support with so many other people. It makes no sense for one guy to A rank a girl, them get married at the epilogue, then him A rank another girl and have them be "just really really close friends" Basically knowing how shitty ISIS is about everything, I wouldn't trust them with writing out several different scenarios depending on who pairs with who. The way it was in 9 was great, characters grew along with the story.
>>322663529 >replay value that's bullshit and you know it.
>>322663670 it makes more sense than just getting 2/3rds of a way through some nigga telling you his life story and then just never following up. quantity is better in this case, because it will include the quality as well.
>>322663883 >quantity is better in this case, because it will include the quality as well. You're delusional A solid 4/5s of Awakenings supports were shit and you think because there's a lot it's quality?
>>322663883 Except >>322663670 gets why quantity means shit, i had forgotten how bland most of awakenings supports were, specially between marriage candidates bar a few. A majority of awakenings supports were nothing but "how was your day, oh btw lets fuck" tier shit. So no, atleast in IS' writings case, quantity is not better.
6/7/8/9 all had a nice chunk of supports that gave tons of backstory and developed what is otherwise a fairly bland cast of characters. Awakening just played on archetypes 90% of the time
>>322647678 I didn't think RD's story was too bad. There were definitely areas to improve on, but at least the characters and world took themselves seriously. Endgame had more going on than Awakening's entire story.
>>322665063 I agree, I actually am able to enjoy RD story but there are definitely issues but probably has the best Endgame in the series. Awakening pretty much shits itself in the story department as soon as they beat Gangrel. Not that it was that great to begin with.
>>322664715 I can see where you're coming from, still i cant agree with awakenign style supports, unless they get a better writing team or tone the "everyone can support everyone else" shit down. As that's a large part of why awakening's supports were garbage, that and making everyone able to fuck each other.
Removing limitations on it just means everyones best buddies with each other, which is just strange. Specially as above anon said and you have 1 S married girl and then a buncha A girls on the side. Best middle ground is to have each support convo be its own bit of story. But even that aint perfect
>>322665063 The biggest crime to RD is how they fucking butchered supports, especially bad considering you can sort of carry your support rank from PoR over, but it largely amounts to nothing besides ike/soren pairing.
>>322664962 How much you'll like it will probably depend on how you liked previous entries in the series.
Its bland, open maps and [lack of] map objective variety are objectively worse than older entries'. The gameplay is easier than ever with the broken pair-up system, tons of support bonuses, and other changes.
The story is simple and predictable but serviceable. The characters are many and often likeable, but particularly animu-esque and one dimensional. The focus on being able to marry all units and the removal of non-romantic supports (sans the generic ones between siblings and parents/2nd Gen children) was a disappointment for me.
Despite its problems, and preferring the old games massively, I still sunk a ton of time into it to complete the support list. Go ahead and play if you think it looks good.
>>322666379 I think it would have worked better with 8's supports, where they all seem to happen anyway, Amelia's supports with Duessel say she has found a rival (Franz, though he isn't mentioned by name,) to train with. Forde's ending has people finding his paintings etc.
>>322666801 They were meant to have a fully fleshed out A one between certain characters, the full list is somewhere on SF and was fucking huge
>>322668762 >Can't even Aether Being fight-sexual is a plus though. >>322667996 He could've had it all. Now's he's labelled as a faggot. Ike x Micaiah Ike x Mist Ike x Nailah Ike x Lethe Ike x Titania Ike x Mia Elincia x Ike
We don't. The best possible scenario is if a Japanese indie or Western indie (excluding Germany or Russia) who was imbued with Real Fire Emblem™ during their youth spends time to develop a good tactical RPG.
The reason why I exclude Germany and Russia is because their history with tactics games involves garbage shit like King's Bounty, Blackguards, and a host of other tactical games that are boring flat hex grids. Fuck both of those countries, seriously.
>>322669161 Get IS some competent writers and the major problem with FE solves itself, theyre already showing they can still make a good game gameplay wise. But their writing team is just subpar recently, even for FE standards.
>>322669969 Me neither anon, ikexmia coulda been grand too, alas
Micaiah was indeed awful, as was everything with the Brand, but the conclusion of Ike was more than worth it. Ike's wrap-up happens at a time when, mechanically, you have to whittle down your squad to only like 9 people you send into the tower, which makes it double-powerful at a time it really needs to be.
Contrast this with the final fight in Awakening and you can see that even RD comes above that. No matter how derisive you are toward RD, at least it's not Awakening
>>322669697 Playing it again isn't bad, but you won't miss anything really.
There's a support library where you can re-read PoR's supports that you've seen. A small support increase between characters with A-supports in PoR Coins for the blacksmith Stat increases for units at level -/20
>>322670702 Great that Fates brought back the Aether animation for Ike. Seems like only he does the spin thing(Minus backflip uppercut) while Lucina just does slashes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RHwkUMfGcZY
PoR was tighter but the conclusion was off, simply because the game was destined to be a cliffhanger (being part of a saga)
but I think that the emotional payoff of the conclusion of RD is enough to sidestep the mediocre Micaiah chapters. And that's something that couldn't've been done in PoR because PoR necessarily had to lead to RD by design.
>>322670702 Aether is exclusive to lords and descendants. Same as rightful king. In the meta, Priam not having aether is understandable. But lorewise it's a dumb as shit decision and just adds to the confusion.
>>322669161 You don't need to "save" FE because Fates (or at least Nohr route) shows that IS still knows how to make good games. The only problem is that they have a bad sense of priorities that needs fixing and for just once, stop rehashing Marth and his family and just move on for once.
>use mah nigga Volke throughout the entirety of PoR, never getting hit and killing niggas left and right with Lethality n shit >recruit him very late in RD >oh well, at least I can use him for a few chapters >you are only allowed to take a few people with you in the tower >fuccboi Sothe is already fucking forced to come along
>>322672038 I wouldnt necessarily mind a self insert if it was on the level of 12's. People know him, people like him, but hes not plot relevant at all. But who am i kidding, were stuck as 13/fates mc from now on
>>322671016 I disagree, Micaiah and plot elements like the blood pact dragged the plot down to an extent the ending couldn't make up for. Furthermore, cramming in every single character from PoR sans the optional Largo in addition to new characters that don't get near enough screen-time both ruined the support system and weakened the story as a whole.
You're just not ever given enough time to fully appreciate the Dawn Brigade until you're whisked off to Crimea and Elincia's part, and then when they eventually return they're swept under the bigger plot elements unfolding like the nauseating blood pact and ensuing war and only Micaiah and to a lesser extent Sothe have any more relevancy.
>>322672932 I know the last time it was talked about a good chunk of people agreed with this sentiment on the MU. They're just not implemented good. >>322673089 Chrom was oddly and snugly on Robin's dick. It was kind of weird, like he never had a best friend or just a good friend before.
>>322672932 That's just current games in general anon, im sorry. Not even defending fates but atleast that ones being honest about us being the main character rather than awakening starting us off in the partner role, then plot moving us into literal most important person in the plot.
Again, if this is how it has to be, just make it liek 12's at most, personally would like to just be the faceless tactician in 7 who was occasionally brought up. But noone wants the back row like that, gotta be center stage.
>>322673272 Chrom was that way cause i think they were too lazy to make M/F main story dialogue, so he was "gender neutral" for most of it, making this awkward middle ground between friend and more than friend/lover.
>>322673954 You're likely not wrong, hell he call you family within 3 chapters. >>322674113 He did, he had plenty of friends far as i could tell, even if he was "different" from a normal noble. Still, you are the MC, thus you are instantly the closest and most important person in his life.
>>322674318 She's story required for 1 period and she is honestly one of the better units if you take the time to raise her. What that anon means is bring her to 99 exp then save scum the level up, i think.
>>322674318 I forgot that the system was different in both games when I responded. In PoR bonus exp is fine to level with, but in RD when you lvl with bonus exp they get only three stat points. I think it is better to take the chance and get more than three points.
>>322674318 It does in Radiant Dawn at least. Level ups by Bonus EXP always give strictly 3 stats, no more, no less, unless you capped a bunch already. Raising it to 99 and then leveling normally on the next map however still raises stats as normally dictated by growth rates.
I think Path of Radiance doesn't do this though and Bonus EXP is no different from normal leveling.
I started playing it recently. I can't bring myself to carry on. I'm at the chapter where Mist and Rolf join you. The game has a fucking annoying habit of giving you new units then taking them away for a mission or two. I just want Gatrie back, mang.
>>322677240 Wont disagree RD shit on laguz in just about any way they could, while also removing the one flaw they had (no abaility to attack out of transformation) But the only ones i recall staying good was one of the hawks, lethe would get too weak, mordy was too slow. So apart from the obvious Reyson they all fell off later on, not game ruiningly so, just in comparison to everyone else.
